Hi Guys,
I know this sound stupid but GOV132. is lost.
I thought it was still at the National Motor Museum, No reference.
Sammy Miller Museum, No reference.
National Motorcycle Museum. No reference.
The last time I saw "The legend" was in the spring at the Classic show at Malvern.
Where is it Now, Has Colin Dommett got it back? Scott was garding it at the show.
PS, Did'nt a young man named, ? Clarke own it at one time too.
PS<PS Just found a picture of Mick Clarke riding GOV 132, in ORR number 38, will post it when I have zaped it on to my site.

Hi guys .
Hi Big "J"
Thanks for the reply.
I've found that the more you dig through related Books, Mags, and the Net on the subject that you are reserching the more intresting it gets along with jolting your memory back to related subject.
I find the ORR books all a reference library, what a pity they discontinued. do you agree?
It needs some one with lot's of knowledge on the subject to take up the baton so to speak,
I'am sure something in the same format would sell well despite the publishing cost.
And I'am sure there are fans on the subject out there that would love to get involved.
What do you think?
Regards Charlie.

hi Guys
Hi Big "J".
Was flicking through copies of O.R.R. last night looking for a picture that I knew I had seen in one of the copies, came across the story of "Pathfinder Pollock" in volume 81/83.
Reading through the article, the conections with this part of Scotland began showing them selves again.
My parents met at work in the Northern Aluminium Company Factory in Banbury, now Alcan.
Turned the page and there was the picture with MST on again.
The picture of Ted Usher looked familiar, knew I had seen it before in the bookI had been given for Best Newcomer" in a local trial in 1962.
The book Max King's "Trials Riding". Found the picture on page 127, turned out to be different to the one in ORR though. Title of Picture "E Usher (347) Matchless, can't read all of the reg number ,but I think it starts with H?E or F 27?. the bike as a single sided brake hub that I do not recognise. was this a works bike too?
Two pages on in the book is a nice picture of the impurturbable Gordon Blackeway riding GOV131 in the SSDT.
I did find the picture I was looking for eventually in ORR No 54 Page 14. The only surviving "Jackson Oil In The Frame Tiger Cub" that the proprietor used to ride in the Scottish in the mid sixties. The Kit was on sale to the general public during this period and so was a production bike I think.
Hope this is some intrest to you. (Liked the article on the pathfinders a lot),
We used to do this on the Sunday before a local trial with the R and D chief from Alcan with his early Triumph Trophy that he had fitted S/Arm suspension on, at work.
Regards Charlie.

Hi Guys.
I think thats the wheel that fell of the trailer on the rear , but I think the tyres are Post 65.
Burt Munro. would have ridden her though, and probably would have won, with a single dab know dout. I think that is the follow up movie in the making probably set in his ultamate dream before he past on.
I must stop, this or I will be writing the script myself.
Regards Charlie.
-
Hi Guys.
7 or 77 would be good,
There is more later, when I speak to one or two people.
Must dash i've got a bike to build.
Regards Charlie.

Hi Guys.
I was told I was a law unto myself by someone I had upset. Are well can't win um all,as we say in North Oxfordshire.
Back to the plot then.
From The Wikipedia, I quote.
From 1959-1964 the distributor was driven by a worm gear. A worn distributor drive combined with a weak timing spring,ETC, is a well known cause of lumpy running. This was addressed with the (1965 "F" engine )when the points were moved to the end of the camshaft. ---------------------

Hi Guys.
I must get a life.
But.
Anyone with a copy of "The Competition Motorcycle" Refrence Library-Vol 1.
Go to page 29.The Early Years of the Pre 65 Scottish.
Now to page 30 "ken Sedgeley" Note bottom end of motor.
Now Page 31 "Martin Lampkin on Ex-Works BSA, Note bottom end again.
Page 38"Jim Sandiford" Note You got it.
And the page 41 for the big one. " Alan Lampkin" Weighs up the section ahead, With the Oil In The Frame BSA 250 and Note, I'll say no more.

Hi Guys,
I have a Beamish frame that I am considering putting one of these engine's in. .
Have fitted a bantam into it at the moment but I am a fourstroke man.
I bought a Jialing copy JH125L from E-Bay last year for
-
Hi Guys.
Looks to me I have done Sammy and Howard a faver and myself.
(Ps) just looked at Scott Ellis's ultimate frame in new book this makes it more unbelievable why these frames are not exceptable.
(PS) again.
After studying the "Book". I Quote, The last batch of C15T's were built in 1963,and the works riders substituted the production frame for the Victor Oil in the frame version.
After using a big magnifiying glass on the pic of Scott Ellis's frame, It looks to me it used a Tiger Cub sub frame and a C15 or B40 s/arm.
I'm sure we met Scott on this bike at the St Davids trial in 1965, which means the frame was built before that by Harry Foster. Prove me wrong.
Regards Charlie.

A bike, and a Two Day Trial. Is it fate or something, or are the Gods of Pre65 smiling upon me at the moment ( didn't think I had done Sammy any favers). Even maneged to buy a copy of the BIble though from E-Bay this week.(Don Morley's, Classic British Trials Bikes).

Charlie.

Hi Guys.
Hi Big "J".

Hi Guys.
D-, for my homework. I should have found the SACU web site sooner, then I would have found the other Pre 65 Scottish Two Day trial, run by the Inverness and District Motorcycle Club.
There trial is run on private land at Alvie. the Classes are for,
Pre Unit Rigid, Pre Unit Springer, Two Stroke,
Foreign to 1964, Unit Construction to 1970, and (Specials.)
That sounds OK to Me. last years trial was on June 17-18th,
Summer Hol's anyway me thinks.
Just been thinking to day(which could be dangerous) With the falling numbers in the Sammy series. Perhaps Two Day Pre 65 trials could be the way forward for the sport anyway.
-
Hi Guys ,
Hi Big"J"
Come on boys i thought we were trying to discuss having another Two Day trial up there, which as i've learnt today would then make three. This is making me feel a lot happier already. I shall be popping up over the wall by the looks of things,
You think you've got trouble with your bike store Big "J" you should see mine at the moment. You know what I mean. I have never heard a Gas Gas called a boiler before but I spose they are.
-
Hi Guys,
Hi Highland Lassie,
Thanks for the information, thats puts me in my place.
Isn't it a pitty that there is not two Pre 65 Scottish Two Day trials, I know it would be imposible to organise by the same club , and probably no one else is intrested.
But it would give us Old Timers one last chance to ride our Old (new) bikes on the Scottish Hills. And perhaps BSA's would get presidence in an entry,. One can only dream.
Regards Charlie
-
Hi Guys.
I am not slagging off this superb trial,
I just wish that there was some sort of guide line to what is exepted and what is not.
If i had this info in front of me, I would jolly well set too and build a bike that was exeptable. knowing when it was built I would have an entry place for me and the bike.
The trouble is with only 180 places up for grabs and all the superb machinery that there is in this country and abroad I stand little chance of getting a ride in this event untill I am to old and decreped to ride.
Why is there only 180 places, daylight hours, admin costs, space, I dont know tell me.
Regards Charlie.
-
Hi guys
Thanks for the pics Totalshell, This is what I can't understand I was making these sort of mods in the 60s, made a bantam s/h not disimlar to the pic carved a top yolk out with hacksaw and rasp and made my own oval tube in a vice. even fitted a Wal Phillips fuel injector on the Goldie outfit that Arthur Lampkin now owns XJO 277. bet that wuold be frowned upon. still try for a entry though.
-
Hi Guys,
I know what you mean. I bought a S/H C15t from Comerfords in 1961 it arrived by rail totaly coverd in cardboard.
As we unrapped it the first thing we noticed was that the sub frame had been totaly modified, along with the forks etc. So i could not ride this in the Pre 65 then?
If Sammy applied on one of his New Hi-Boy framed C15/B40.Do you think he would get an entry.
Regards Charlie.
-
Hi guys.
Just read the machine Eligibility Guidance.
Looks like its back to the drawing board , or shall have to get Super fit to ride the HT or Goldie,
Being a bit optimistic though, got to get an entry first.
PS, Anyone got a BSA round barrel and head.
Regards Charlie.

Hi Big J, thanks for the info .I will see my bruv today and confirm that this is the same .I think your right about the scottish but will give it a try.
-
Hi guys.
Well after a long week it looks as if my brother as bought two bikes off of a e-site that should be Ok for the pre 65 Scottish but do you think we will get an entry. The Ariel Ht 5 comes from Scotland, in the same spec as it left the factory. And the B40 as every thing BSA on it .So give us a clue or should our name be Miller or Andrews.or even "Bultaco Banbury Dan".
-
Hi Guys
This is great news that Martyn is now part of the un/real world, but what would we do with out it now-a-days.
Congrats Martyn, I hope this site brings you much work, and stops the rest of us tearing our hair out trying to get info and hold of you, The Worlds a big place ,even in this end of Oxforshire.
Regards Charlie.
-
Hi guys.
It is wenesday night ,and it might seem like a silly idea, but why dont we use video cams set up to watch sections , then you only need one observer at the end of the trial?.And any one that stands in front of these gets barred for life.
Regards Charlie.
-
Hi guys,
You wont go wrong buying from Mick, but you may have to skim the shoe's on the back plate as well as the drum to get a good fit but do be carefull with this operation.
Regards, Charlie.
