  1. Sold the sherco (125) about three years ago and can't remember exactly when I spoke rathmells' but I was using fully synthetic at the time and they told me to change to semi. Asked the same question to lampkins when we bought a 80 in 03 and again in 06 with the 125 and 250 with the same advice. The best thing to do is call and ask Beta UK, they have always been very helpful and free with advice.

  2. Any good full synthetic is preferred. I disagree with the above statement that full synthetics cause splouge. Its running overly rich oil ratio's that cause that. Full synthetics are more popular for trials due to the fact that they can be run very lean/clean and still maintain excellent motor protection.

The uk importers of Beta and Sherco have both advised me in the past to use semi synthetic and not full synthetic. I'll stick with semi!

  3. Don't use fully synthetic, trials bikes don't rev high enough for long enough to burn it off properly, you will just end up with black gunk in the exhaust which will probably drip out somewhere and also clog up the exhaust packing. Use any semi synthetic premix.

  4. Looking for some help from the Honda experts, a friend of mine is interested in this Honda on ebay Clicky but my knowledge is limited with Hondas and I couldn't offer to much help. The bike looks gorgeous and the description of the work done is impressive, but we are not sure of the value of the engine modifications. Our uncertainty is born from ignorance so would appreciate your views. Thanks in advance.

  5. Waltham Chase run a series of beginners trials and practice days and are always keen to encourage newbies, check out there web site for dates and contacts. I'm sure they would be ok about bike sharing. You wife might not be the only female either, there are a couple of girls who ride in the centre.

  6. If you have a look through the montesa forum there are quite a few discussions on the best oil to use in the 315. My recommendation is use the honda/mont recommended oil, ELF HTX740. If the rest of the clutch is ok (plates not badly worn or warped, springs the right length, master and slave cylinder seals and bores ok and it's adjusted at the lever correctly) there should be no drama selecting a gear when cold. also use semi synthetic 2 stroke oil. Fully synthetic wont burn off properly in relatively low revving trials engines which can then clog everything up with black oily deposits. Hope you get the bike sorted.

  7. Dabster, you have a replica that doesn't match mechanicaly or visually to the repsol as you well know! They use similar air to standard in the tyres though apparantly :banana2:

I thought they used helium :wall:

  8. I found Draper tachometers useless, had one managed to get it round the ht lead but didn't work, complained and was sent a second foc, that didn't give a useable reading either. I found 2 solutions 1. Automotive multimeter often have a tachometer setting small croc clip on the ht lead 2. Pulse Engine Tachometer Pet-2000dx. Just hold it near the ht lead and it gives you a reading (you do need to double the reading as the pet-2000 can only be set to four stroke 2 cylinder or two stroke 1 cylinder) but that

  9. Waltham Chase MCC based soton run lots of closed to club events with 4 routes so great for getting started (http://www.walthamchasetrials.co.uk/) they also run a series of beginner trials on a Saturday afternoon during the summer with the odd practice day thrown in as well.

Waterside Mcc Run trials around the Southampton and Bournemouth area, again 4 routes so great for all abilities they also ran a great arena trial demonstration at the Beaulieu motorcycle show with loads of club members riding the sections as well as a few stars.

Ringwood Mcc run several open to centre events, the also run a summer series on Wednesday evenings near Bournemouth.

XHG Tigers Mcc also run a few Open to centres and ran an evening summer series last year.

Southampton and District don't know much about them but they do run a few open to centre.

Gosport Club they have a trial this Sunday near Petersfield.

Bit further west Yeo Vale run some really good events as do Blackmore Vale (ACU)

So plenty locally to start with that will give you a ride virtually every week within 1 to 1 1/2 hours drive.

Zona One the club steve is involved with, have at least one venue within 1 1/2 hours drive, 'Nettleton Quarry' you can practice there as well.

If you go to the to ACU site you will find contact details for all the clubs in the Southern centre.

The AMCA clubs mentioned before are very good also Blackmore Vale AMCA run some excellent events.

    Enjoy

  10. Hi

I had the same trouble before Christmas, I eventually found a mobile number on a business search through google, which worked. However the guy who manufactures the Kliponoff rack has sold the business and all the jigs to another engineering firm. I was also told that the new firm weren't fabricating any racks until after xmas, I tried to find out when they would be making some but they didn't return my call. The bad news is that I've thrown all the numbers away as I managed to get hold of a second hand rack, but I do know that colin appleyards have been in touch with the new owner chasing some racks as the normally keep some in stock, so give them a call

  11. Off on me hols and thought it would be fun to spend a day watching how the spanish do it, but don't know where to start. Staying on the Costa Blanca about an hour north of benidorm between Calpe and Javea. Any body know how to find out, if there are trials being run in the alicante to Valencia region?

    Thanks
