  1. Hi VC, just checked the tyres and no signature but the tank/seat has the signature , i have changed the kickstart angle and will remove the cover tonight to check the points and ee if its cracked. One good part on the auction was the 'new centre box' which turned out to be a complete exhaust downpipe to the rear silencer given to me as an extra spare!! is the rear silencer original ? as it has a rather large throaty sound to it ? and i will clean her up and possibly do a full overhaul but only when i have had a few years on it first Dave
  2. Thanks for your swift reply, sorry its not for sale as i have only just bought it!!! . I have wanted one for years. I currently ride a mono ty250 but i missed my old 250T bultaco i used to have and was looking for one when i found the monty as the TY just doesn't feel the same as the early spanish bikes. What suprisedme about the monty was its torque and smoothness compared to the revvie yam and with a bit of tinkering it should last me years Dave PS is the mark 2 amal original ?
  3. Hi, just bought a Malcolm Rathmell replica from ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1 and was wondering what , if any , is different on the bike from a std 348 ? also what year was it made ? frame number is 51m 7995 with matching engine numbers. It rides superbly thou it may have a worn main bearing but for the price its a great toy Thanks Dave
  4. Perhaps they have realised its 'a good earner' Dave
  5. Sounds like fun!! Try mole grips to see if the stud moves after pumping some grease thru the nipple or you could drill part way thru the end you have cut off then insert a punch the same size as the drill hole and knock it out. Or cut nipple end flush to the plate and put a nut on the other end with an oversized washer and try drawing it thru. I haven't done this on a TY so i am just guessing but i did have to cut thru a SR yam swing arm pin on both sides of a frame to remove it years ago so i can understand your problem. Sometimes heat and quench will work but it may ruin the bush apart from this i have welded a slide-hammer on and withdrawn seized bolts this way. Have fun Dave
  6. Just got a reply from yamaha and yes they will date it but after they recieve
  7. I think its newer then 63 as they had finned brake drums, earlier models had a round barrel, 63 on had the square barrel but i'm going on memory of my greeves i had 25 years ago Dave

    Ty250 Forks

I see , i thought they were air-assisted forks. Dave
  10. 1st thing is to remove the cylinder head and barrel then check the ring gaps. Then check for piston slap marks on the front and back of piston and barrels. If the piston is skuffed then there is too much play and a re-bore will be needed. If its smooth you can put the piston in the bore and check clearence between piston and bore and if excessive (check manual for tollerences) = re-bore. If its OK then you may get away wth a set of rings but also check for small end wear and big end wear as this could also be a problem Dave

    Ty250 Forks

Hi, does anyone know the min-max air pressure to pump up my 59n mono 1987 250? It has the air valves fitted to the top of the forks, thanks Dave
  12. Thanks Barry and Dale with you swift answers, i have just written a letter to yamaha to the above address. I have just got insurance on the frame number but they will only do it for 14 days then they want a reg number (
  13. Hi, great forum for an old trialer. Does anyone know how i get an age-related certificate for my yamaha ty250 mono? as i dont want a Q plate. I regestered my old norton without a hitch as vintage m/c club varified its date but i am having trouble to find who can do a yamaha. It has 86 on the wheels so its probably a 1987 bike but DVLA wont take it as fact. Thanks Dave
