  1. Hi, anyone know if there are any other type of piston that can be used as tarabusi o/sized are getting hard to find. My 247 is on std but with a lot of wear so it may have to be bored to its 2nd o/s which, i think , is 73.5mm and i cant find a piston to fit that doesn't cost a small fortune or one that does!!! Dave
  2. If it has the wavy finned head, 6 speed box and frame tubes under the engine it may well be a 348. Check the frame number on the headstock as the 1313 are case numbers eg 13 is l/h and 13 is r/h and should have the same number as they would have been machined together Dave
  3. If it was fine before the cable change then the throttle cable/carb has been disturbed Dave
  4. Cheers for that but ain't they very expensive for parts!!! Dave
  5. Is it a 6v or 12 volt system? as the 6volt just has a single wave rec fitted Dave
  6. Its sheer-joy when they come off and the gear cluster looks pretty good so it should be ready to trials pretty soon with plenty of spares left over!! Dave
  7. I actually use 11/53 with a 428 chain and i like the extra low gearing as it enables me to use higher gears which will spread the load away from the lower gears Dave
  8. Not quite, the bore measured up 72.5 and the piston just under but my new std rings have a 3mm gap!!!! something is wrong somewhere. Dave
  9. No, use a big heavy hammer as its the jolt that gets the gear off . I have just removed the same gear off of my 247, i just used two long tyre leavers , one being pushed by my knee and the other by hand and i walloped the crank end with a thor copper and hide hammer once and it came off Dave
  10. I would leave it weighted as the weight helps bottom end running Dave
  11. Dave Renham didn't have them in stock but Sammy Miller has and its winging its way to me as we speak (type) but he did have the rings i needed and the bush for the kickstart shaft Dave
  12. Pull the carb off and check the pilot jet isn't blocked Dave
  13. Thats my next port of call but all the rods i have seen have been for cappra's etc Dave
  14. Sorry forgot to say that its a 1976 cota 247 Dave
  15. Hi, my latest project is getting costly as i have just pressed apart the big end to find the rod is ovaled and knackered. Anyone know where i can get a kit from or at the least a serviceable rod? cheers Dave
  16. I have just split the cases and changed it as the bike came with a new shaft Dave
  17. I will be splitting the cases as the big end has a bit of up and down play so it looks like a complete re-build job. Funny enough the shaft was OK and its the kicker that was worn but by putting in a new bolt and doing up correctly it holds fine Dave
  18. I posted this in the montesa forum but i should have posted it here, Hi, can you change the kickstart shaft without splitting the engine? silly question as i split a 349 a few months ago and i just cannot remember!! I have been offered a 1977 one with the splines stripped. cheers Dave

    Chain

Have a look at the links on a honda chain to see what is stamped, it may be h/m as all genuine honda manufactured parts have it or it could be DID or nothing at all but worth a look as it may save a lot of money Dave
  21. The bultaco engine would be a better lump. Those 250 triumph/bsa lumps ain't very good Dave

    Chain

But where do honda source their chains from?. I remember when i worked in a m/c shop and a guy came in asking for some honda 2 stroke oil which we had run out off so i told him to buy some ELF 2t as it was the same oil but half the price because elf was sponsoring honda racing and his answer was ' i wouldn't put that crap in my bike' , there is no pleasing some people Dave
  24. And it wont start, Dave
