  1. Hello, I am preparing a 242 Montesa Cota for Classic trials. I have worked a lot in it because I love drive but I love more tune and prepare it. The bike has many special parts made in duraluminium and diverse modifications to make the drive more light, more easy to drive and less tiring because I'm ggetting a bit older. I have ever thinked that the old points ignitions can't work really well in all the rpm range. I read and advertisement on the net about The Norton Villiers "LITTLE DEMOM" electronic ignition. The advertisements explains " There is an inbuilt advance curve which allows the motor to run at extremely low rpm" This phrase gained my interest and I decided to buy one. To adapt the unit I send a Montesa 242 ignition base plate. In a short time I received the new unit. An aluminium disc with the pick-up and a bobin is welded over my old backplate. I mounted the assembly in a medium advance position and installed all, the system new bobin, and the electronic module. Ii starts at first attempt. The machine starts nicely with no kickback, but the engine has becomed terribly soft. I modify the advance to the maximum that permited the backplate... and beter, but no good. New dismantling. Carefully, in a lathe, I separed the ignition plate of the backplate and welded again with more advance. This time the bike has ricovered his original punch with a plus of smoothnes in low rpm, but, Oh surprise
  2. Hello drScott, in the http://www.montesa.se/cota03.pdf, page 40, you will find an exploded view of the two forks.I refer to the numbers in this page. You remove with the fork in the bike, and the bike in a stand, the uper plug of the bar, 15 or 25, after removing handlebar. Then remove the spring,18, if it is the case, from the iner of the tube. Remove the suspension unit from the bike. With the suspension unit apart first drain the oil.You must then remove the dust cover 9, it's only a light pressure fit, and after the clip 14. Then you must remove the nut from the lover end of the bottle, 13 or 24, according to the side. Theoretically it is necessary an special tool to avoid inner components to rotate. I have do this some times an I ever have dismantled the unit without special tool. When the nut removed you pull wit some light blows the tube apart from the bottle. The units will sepre and in the tube will rest the seal to change. You must verify tat thre are no scratches on the tube because they will ruin all new seals. I thjere are some light scratyches it is posible to repair carfully with a fine file. Mounting is a reverse proces. To avoid the iners turn when tightening 13 or 14 usually it helps at the same time you thigt, to apply a side force on the spanner to promote friction between the inner parts and the bottle. If you can understand my terrible english perhaps I help. Regards
  3. Hello DonD, I agree, this is that I want to explain in my post, I think just one kick at half trothle, and the bike starts at the following atempt, no trothle. With this system not necessary out of gear in the 2005 bikes.
  4. When the engine hot stalls, it is easy to start just kicking gently one thime with half trotlhe, the engine will no start. After, kicking in the usual way, no trothle, the engine will start easily. Sorry but my english is very poor, I hope you will understand me. Regards

  8. The only place that actually I know with the placement of sections on the Tarragona Trial is: http://www.fut.es/~ajtargna/lajuntament/b.237/pdf/19.pdf There is a Tarragona city electronic newspaper, is in catalan, but at the end of the document there is an aerial image of the Tarragona coast with the placement of most of the sections. The newspaper explains that many sections are in the beach rocks, and one in
  9. Hello, First please excuse my english ! I am from a small town near Barcelona. I think the better part of Spain for trial is Catalonia at the nord east of Spain. Here we are some of the better drivers and some of the trial bike works (Montesa, Gas-Gas, Sherco, Clipic). From February to November you may found a trial race every week end at max 1 hour from Barcelona. In this trials you may found from very easy, to very difficult sections. We have diverse tree days trials, Santigosa, Cingles, Anoia, Arinsal. Another question is clubs or practicing areas. We don't have any club with practicing area. In all our region it is at this moment only one "legal" area for training in a small village named Castellol
