  1. I’d second that opinion. I’m a small person, also 65, and it was extremely hard to start my Gasgas but after I reduced the compression with a 1mm head spacer the world was much rosier. Replacing the head insert or adding a head spacer will make it much easier to kick over. https://trialssuperstore.com/products/beta-evo-s3-low-compression-head-insert-300?srsltid=AfmBOorOsQLwFqYdzcC2hekw1AWgZSnGvXZNEch3bDhi56zw0dxAfsnV
  2. I believe they’re in the UK. Their website only states where the copyright originated. “registered at Companies House in England and Wales. Registered at CPM House, 10 Works Road, Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire, SG6 1LB, UK” it also states that the prices will include “VAT”…so, I’m guessing the UK again.
  3. I highly recommend the Trial Solutions levers and they do fit Beta. You’ll love them!
  4. It’s called Bultaco Bootlace Yellow and you can order it from here: https://www.rsbikepaint.com/oem-matched-motorcycle-paint-colour.php?locale=en-US&rs_colour_order_ref=37337
  5. Yes, it would! It’s standard size just a smaller engine.

  7. It won’t reset. They only let you load a certain amount unless you become a paying member. The other way to load pictures, without the limit, is to use a photo sharing site that stores the photos there instead of on Trials Central. I use Flickr but there’s others. Somewhere on here is a description of how to do it but I always have a hard time finding it. You can also just include a link to the photos for wherever you have them stored. Good luck! I found the direction to uploading photos: https://www.trialscentral.com/forums/topic/43691-posting-photos/
  8. I had a 1974 Yamaha TY 250 when I was a kid and loved it. I’ve been looking for one to restore myself but without much luck. They get snagged before I can get to them. It’s the sound of the engine that I remember most and when I see a video on YouTube with someone riding one around I get all choked up hearing that very unique, quite quiet, popping rhythm. I wish you the best of luck getting your uncle’s Bultaco back into shape. I’ll keep watching for your updates.
  10. Bials, here are a few places that sell TL parts. Hopefully you can find what you need on them. https://www.megazip.net/zapchasti-dlya-motocyklov/honda/tl250-14857/tl250-28759/tl250-a-787928?network=x&adposition=&keyword=&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22419889174&gbraid=0AAAAADdym2axmanakEDnZRMjcQ5KOwMbQ&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItNiJ08SYkgMVZg6tBh35kzofEAAYAyAAEgI1rfD_BwE https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-tl250_model302/?bg_source=ga&bg_campaign=16511123247&bg_kw=dsa-1465129992666-mi--pi--ppi-&bg_source_id=586686834193&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=16511123247&gbraid=0AAAAABvnBcJu1N-OSlIKn7IozHy-M-FqW&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItNiJ08SYkgMVZg6tBh35kzofEAAYASAAEgLI0fD_BwE https://www.speedandsport.com/model/tl250/ https://www.vintco.com/shop/Honda/TL250
  11. Hey pmcand, I had the exact same problem with my bike. I did three things to help calm my 2023 Gasgas down. 1st - I installed a flywheel weight (it helped some) 2nd - I installed a 1mm head spacer to lower the compression. (It helped a little more, it’s much easier to start too) 3rd - I modified the throttle tube. (This helped a great deal) Regarding the throttle tube, there is a cam where the cable runs around the end of the tube. Both fast and slow throttles have them. I had tried a slow throttle but the change was very minimal so I bought an aluminum one (slow again) from G2 Ergonomics. It also produced no noticeable change that would work for me. I lived with it for two years until I had the idea of modifying the tube. I simply removed the throttle tube and used a Dremel to ease the cam to a more linear pull. It took me about five minutes to grind it down. I have a photo showing how I modified it in the link below. I put a dashed line in to show what material to remove with a before and after shot. The change from a “scary” throttle response was exactly what I needed. It costs nothing to modify it compared to the other mods I listed. I guarantee this, modifying the tube, will get you what you want. Feel free to ask questions. Good luck! https://flic.kr/p/2rPhx56 Oh, we happen to be the same age. When you and I were riding trials in the 70s the throttles were linear and smooth. The new age throttles have the cam we didn’t back then. That quick throttle caused me a serious crash with a punctured lung and six broken ribs. I know exactly what you’re going through. Let me know if the link doesn’t work.
  12. I’d suggest something like the Beta EVO 80 Sr. Since your wife is petite and with little experience, the smaller frame and lighter bike would be easier for her to handle. It’s also much much much less expensive. You can always go bigger if she ends up liking it. A bigger bike could easily discourage her. The Beta EVO 80 will work great at higher elevations with the correct jetting.
  13. Gotgas, I would try the Kenda IBEX trials specific tires in a heartbeat. I’ve read several reviews stating people love the tires. Kenda also has an exceptional reputation in the tire industry. The only problem I have with them is they aren’t available locally for me. Go for it and don’t worry about it.

    Hello

Welcome! That’s great to hear about your sons. Would love to see some photos of them doing their thing. I can’t get my son interested. How’d you do it?
  15. Let me know what you find, Pat. I’d be really interested. I hope it’s not too serious and good luck!
  16. Hey Pat, I’m no expert but I think the crack in the casing is your problem. It was probably kicked very hard in its life and cracked. Now, it’s my guess, that the kickstarter flexes the shaft just enough so that things are not engaging properly. The kickstart pinion gear and shaft may even be damaged due to the flex. My suggestion would be to open everything up, examine the shaft and gear. I’d also get a new clutch casing or potentially weld the existing crack. Good luck!

    Tires

I’ve heard good things from all of them except the Heidenau. Heidenau makes tires for older or vintage bikes and have a good reputation but not so much for their trial tires. I’m also pretty sure you’re running a tubeless tire on the back and, I believe, Heidenau only makes tube tires. If cost is an issue I’d go with the IRC because they’re much less expensive and many reports rave about them and say they do everything a trial tire needs to. That’s (IRC T-R-11) what I’m getting next. The difference between the Michelin tires and Dunlops is like spitting hairs. They all have excellent reputations. The Dunlop TL01 is their newest version. The difference between them are in how soft the tread is, weight and sidewall stiffness. The differences are minimal, however. You’ll need to decide which will work best for where you ride and style of riding. Mitas has a new version of trials tire that I’d like to try, but they’re not available near me. This new version is reputed to be a big step up from their older version. Who knows if it’s true though?
  18. I love all three of your beauties! Your TY looks fantastic (so does the Honda), it still has the tail and headlight on it along with the original plastics. Plus, I can see that awesome, pristine saddle you didn’t know you had. Thanks so much for the photos!
  19. Hey Tybone, would you be willing to post a photo or two of your TY? I’d love to see it!
  20. I’m not sure I agree with an MTB helmet so I’m putting this out there for consideration. In fact, it’s very dangerous advice. There’s an old saying that goes like this, “Buy the best helmet you can afford!”. The reason being is that you’re playing Russian roulette with your brain. MTB helmets aren’t subject to the same testing standards as DOT helmets are. Yes, trials riding isn’t as fast as street or MX but what happens if you go down and the bike lands on your head that’s next to a tree, rock or hard pack. The shells on MTB helmets aren’t as strong as a rated helmet because MTB bikes weigh a fraction of what a motorcycle weighs.
  21. Holy cow! You are one lucky leprechaun! That cover looks pristine. Buy a lottery ticket.
  22. Welcome to the forum! I had a 1974 TY250 myself when I was 15. I absolutely loved that bike. I had a crash on it and was hospitalized with a concussion and when I got home from the hospital I couldn’t find my TY in the garage. My mother sold it. She kept the money from the sale too! See your other post about a seat. I sent you some options.
  23. I don’t know if you’d be interested in this but through the following links you could put one together. The seat pan will need new foam but it would be an economical way to get an OEM looking seat. I found another link on eBay that was selling, what they claim, is an original, new seat but they want over $9000 for it. Yes, $9000 is correct. Seat cover: https://www.ebay.com/itm/152173175811 Seat pan: https://www.ebay.com/itm/388685489803?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28&google_free_listing_action=view_item&srsltid=AfmBOoowxMbSNwRd0_T2grI0G3cTK_SVgPjNh_PG14jIfwzm-IOkXYCXH1M Just for fun, below is the link for the $9000 seat. It’s rediculous, I know. https://www.ebay.com/itm/155945452638?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28&google_free_listing_action=view_item&srsltid=AfmBOopsjTnPTsYqxoH5moPUHu_Beh0nkNb6Akoy1cUXrgTmKqSZjDRxZ2o
  24. Triad, below is a link to a US company that specializes in electrical components for older bikes. Not sure if it will have the right one for you, and if not, it’s still a very good source to bookmark. I believe they make everything in-house so it may be possible to get what you need built. They also have a CDI, ECU Repair Unit also. Good luck! https://www.regulatorrectifier.com/
