  1. hey! i know on the 2-strokes you put it in brown and from normal friction it turns a light grey color, it does on my sherco and my beta, if there was coolant in it you would smell it and it would be tinted green, if it is water it would be tinted white, the grey color comes from metal parts creating friction and heat, i've never seen a bike not do it. hope this helps....................john

  2. hey! try our site, www.patrials.org, we would be happy to help a fellow rider got pointed in the right direction! we aren't too far from ny, some of our practice spots are up north, it would be a nice day trip and deffinetelly worth the drive! we've hosted a #1 national at our northern most spot! lots of rocks and creeks! the people to contact in ny is aaron and andy miller, they do a lot of the organizing up there and put on a good series................. hope this helps, john

  3. i've only met turtle a handful or more times but he was nothing but nice and genorous to me, he was fun to ride with and he always made the events fun too. he will be missed dearly. all of us members of the P.T.R send our prayers to his wife and family...............John B.

  4. yes it was a great event! i got 5th place nov. out of 28 riders! pretty damn good! just a few too many celebration beers afterwards, pretty crappy mon. morning! i think i'll be up on fri. if i can ever get all the mud off my bike!.......................john

  5. the bolt isn't seized because of dirt, it's a thing called oxidation, just like on a car or even a tractor trailer wheel, steel and aluminum don't mix! it causes a reaction and corodes itself fast, and it is a pain, don't snap the head off the bolt, work it slowly a bit at a time with a good penetrating oil, and get it moving, it will come loose but it is a pain especially because of the location, but be patient it will give, when you put it back together use a lot of never sieze on the bolt and that will help the next time you need to remove the thing.................................john

  6. fat bars are the way! they seem to flex and obsorb some shock, i got a pair and my wrists are a lot less pumped after riding, and they are very strong! i've put them to the test many times and they don't budge! you can also get adapter kits to use them on just about any bike!..........................john

  7. a very inexpensive and user friendly camera is the hp E327 or upper models, you can store like 700 pics on it and it is easy to put inages on the net and it does video also! and it is very small, it has zoom and all the bells and wistles and i think it was like $80.00................................john

  8. use house insulation and safety wire, it works great and it's flame retardant, plus ut's cheap, you can get a 20 foot roll for the cost of the real stuff and it works very well, take a torch to the tube til all the carbon and soot is grey and scrape it clean, wrap it and put it in, i changed mine every 3 months or so, very easy!..................................john

  9. there are many types, but it depends on what you want? rypusa.com has a lot of choices at fair prices, most of them are titanium and very strong! but there are different heights and widths to choose from, they even make some that roll front to back on a pivot, i don't see the point but i guess they are good?..........john

  10. my 06 290 is great stock, i put a black throttle on it and i taught myself to control the power, my old bike was a 200 beta,so the power was out of control but easy to maintain, first if you don't want to have a lot of power don't twist the throttle! the bike can be very soft, til you twist on the gas, the set up from stock is nice, balance at the bottom of a steep ledge or bank, front wheel right on it, just twist a bit and you are at the top! if you blink you'll miss it! the low end power delivery is awesome! and isn't that the point of having a trials bike? quick response and low end torque? if you wanna screw with the timing and reeds or jets, trade it for a beta! they are smoother, i don't know about you but i don't like wrenching on my bike especially when it's not broken, compensate the power and clutch and get used to it, who knows all that power may save you a few fives some day?...............................john

  11. it will be better! my cousin has the gas gas and my friend has the 99 sherco, no comparison! the g g is rickety and the sherco is fine, he has had no trouble with it whatsoever! just basic maintenance, he had it from new and it runs great, fires right up good power and pretty light considering the year, it blew my 99 beta away as far as overall performance, also it is a sherco / bultaco not just sherco so it has the thumbs up like the vintage bikes, so it is a rare find! my buddies is a 200 and it's bright orange and silver, it really stands out in a crowd, i think it was a limitted made color cause the others are red and silver but this is blaze orange! a nice bike to have and hold on to...........................................john

  12. i ran my beta at 100:1 but i run my sherco at 80:1 been thinking of doing the same with my sherco (100:1) it smokes plenty at 80, i mix 1.5 gallons of 93 oct. pump gas with .5 gal. of vp red racing fuel, mostly for the good smell but i like to be right around 98 to 100 octane, it worked great for my beta even though people say 100:1 is nuts for a 99 techno, so it should work fine in my 06 sherco 2.9, i rev my bike quite a bit and it never let me down or acted up, but it is always best to mix a bit more oil than not enough!..............................john

  13. betas are bullet proof! one big problem is how much heavier they feel, i had a techno and you couldn't beat it enough! but they are kinda front heavy, they are very reliable and require very low maintenance, (mostly just basic) they start easy and run strong! i'd say go for it! hell i could let it sit in my cold shed and go out side in the dead of winter and kick it twice and it would start right up no problem! i say gooooooooooooooooooooooo beta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....................john

  14. i like trophies but a nice gift cert. for a steak dinner would be good, we pay money for dues and pay to ride events, but coffee mugs and maybe sweatshirts or can koozies for a nice cold beverage with club logo and place, so you can use it and not worry about showing them to all that visit your house or telling the story, i like trophies but last year i got a stainless coffee mug and i use it every day while the plaques collect dust? number plates are nice, last year marc williams (buku graphics) gave out plaques and a champion number plate for first place, that was nice, i guess i'll take what i get and be happy!...........................john

  15. hey! i have a 2.9 06 and i thought it was a beast at first then i put a slow throttle (black) and have been fine, just ride a lot and work on slipping the clutch and remember the more you twist the gas the more power you get! just practice and get used to the bike, i jumped from a 200 to my 2.9 and was sketchy at first but once you learn what it can do you will get the hang of it, the black throttle made a big change for me but by summer i will probably switch to a quick throttle. don't be afraid of it, just keep at it a little at a time, changing the timing and gearing is a hassle, you could look into reeds, they help smooth the bottom end a bit,but i'd say just practice........................................................john

  16. i'm sorry but this stuff about lane is getting old!why aren't people talking about upcoming events or where they are? you guys are hung up on one person and obviously he is probably reading it and growing angry or happy or a bigger ego? let it go! get down to business at hand! if he's gone then good bye! not lets bash him for a while and make him feel special! if you talk of him you must care! thats what people thrive on (reaction). let it go ! good bye! think of subjects at hand! the season is starting and all i hear about is lane this and lane that, f#$@k him! worry about you or your team! cause obviously the only thing an american can win is a national title! is it cause you are worried about every one else? our terrain and sections are tough, or maybe you have other stuff on your minds? sorry to sound blunt but we have a lot of great talent just in p.a., but no one puts forth the effort? guess it's cause it's like a second job? don't know but i've been reading about lane for a while now! let it go!..................................................john
