  1. The Cota Kid is probably Dougie's No. 1 stalker fan. He even has one of Dougie's one-piece riding suits he likes to wear around the house You will not win an argument with him on this subject! Doug has ridden 213 trials and scored 3450 points = 16.197 points per trial. Tarres has ridden 156 trials and scored 2341 points = 15 points per trial. You cant argue with the numbers can you? Both great, both will probably never be matched - UNLESS (getting back on subject) Dibs keeps this progress up.......
  2. Wow thats a lot of stats.... who (what) are you? It's worth noting that most (if not all) of Tarres wins were when the WTC were only ONE ay events and that a big quantity of Doug's wins were at TWO day events : 2 days = 2 wins. Am sure that if the WTC were 2 day events on Tarres' era that he would have won more than Doug. I would love to see (having seen the above, I'm sure you can provide) stats showing how many WTC rounds Doug has won if you only take one day of a two day event. This would give an indication as to how great they both are. Anyway, this is just my preference re: Tarres. Only a blind monkey would say that Doug is not an awesome all round rider and a great ambassador for our sport
  3. Hi, I have made some postings on the 'To Beta or not to Beta' I have just picked up my new Beta 270 and have subsequently bought a Dellorto carb. BetaRev3 has offered some advise on fitting it and said that ralph may be able to assit me further - looking for help please..... Thanks
  4. Tarres was different level and won his 7 titles over 9 years rather 7 in a row (which is still an amazing feat) losing out to 2 other great riders - Thierry Michaud (1998) and Tommi Ahvala (1992) He had the ability and mental attitude to bounce back twice after losing the title which is something that (as yet) Doug has yet to do.
  5. The 07 270 comes with a fast action. Thanks for this, I realised that when I went to put on another fast action throttle yesterday afternoon - DOH! Have now ordered the Dellorto Carb for the bike which will hopefully improve the throttle response of the bike. On the plus side, am just back from my first trial on the Beta and I LOVE IT........... FIrst lap = total shambles - SO DIFFERENT to the Gasser, but after that started to pull things together and got dialled into the bike and it's characteistics. Only (teeny tiny) complaint was the heavy throttle, which will hopefully be resolved by the Dellorto other than that I am a 100% Beta convert (just need the results to follow now!)
  6. Talk about stating the obvious. Nothing will win you a trial if others are riding better than you!!!! Your obviously not a fan of Lampkin's but no doubt were on the band wagon when he was demolishing all the opposition several seasons ago. And probably support Chelsea / Arsenal / Man Utd. You are right on one count, I have never been a big fan of Dougie - I have always had (and still do) the utmost respect and admiration for him and what he has done for trials but never been a fan of him as a rider. Since seeing Raga in 1999 in the Isle of Man I have been a huge fan of him, and before that Marc Colomer and before that Jordi Tarres, who for my money is still the greatest ever trials rider. Think I prefer the more cyclo trials style of riding/trick riding to the grit, power and determination style of Dougie. As for football, for my sins I am an Everton supporter, so I have a great understanding of suffering - but that's a different story!!!
  7. Just picked up my new Rev3 270 yesterday, spent an hour or so setting up suspension and clutch and now it feels great. Def heavier at the front end (although not yet tried it on any trials terrain) but the turning circle is fantastic and the rear suspension now feels great (felt like a brick when I picked it up) Got first comp tomorrow so should be able to give a real idea as to how it is in comparison to the Gas Gas Raga Rep, needs a fast action throttle put on (hopefully do before trial in morning) as at the minute I feel about a second in front of the bike....... Will update tomorrow!
  8. attributes and confidence are great but that wont win you a trial if others are riding better than you are..
  9. I did another post on the 'betting for the WTC' forum winner - Raga runner up - Bou third - Cabestany
  10. Gotta agree with you Eddy. Dougie is a GREAT rider, but there is going to be 3 or maybe 4 riders finishing higher than him this year whether he gives 100% or 1000%
  11. Just been on to the dealers and it seems i might have an 07 tomorrow. Crikey - you've done well... I ordered mine 2 weeks and 2 days ago and am now hoping to pick up on Friday for a quick fiddle on Saturday and comp on Sunday..... Here's hoping
  12. For my money World Champ - Raga Runner Up = Bou Third = Cabestany
  13. Only time will tell eh? I think he can be a great rider - when he gets his head straight. Dougie is a great rider but I cant see another world round win in him let alone another world championship. Only round winners this year will be -Raga, Bou, Cabestany and poss Fuji
  14. Hi, I have had the exact same scenario as you now have. I have just sold my 04 Raga Rep and am moving to Beta (if it arrives anytime soon...) Like most people I love the way the Gas Gas rides, it is the best feeling machine by far. However, like most people I found a lack of time and energy to keep going over bits on the Gasser to check they were tight or to fix silly little bits. I agree that the Beta's do feel a little heavier than the Gas Gas, however many people say this works to your benefit most of the time as the bike is so stable and planted whilst you are in sections. I rode a Beta at the weekend with - lowered forks, Renthal FatBars, Hebo footrests, quick action throttle and it felt FANTASTIC I now cannot wait for mine to arrive. Dont get me wrong I like the Sherco's as a compromise of similar to Gas Gas feel but superior feel, however I dont think many people will disagree that the Beta is much better put together than other bikes and is on a par with the Montesa. Will let you know more when I get mine and can give it a thorough test....
  15. Raga and Bou - defo better at this time no question. Doug, Fuji at this minute are better but are sadly in decline, and this time next year who knows where Doug will be or if he will even be in the WC. With Jeroni getting adjusted to the team, getting fit, getting his head together I think he can do it. We have seen several times in the outdoors & indoors Jeroni perform the most outstanding rides one minute then crumble the next. Once he sorts this I think he 'could' do top 3 next year As for Caba, again he is probably the most naturally gifted rider out there when he's on it. (sadly he aint on it enough) But he is now, like Doug & Fuji coming to the end of top top level riding. Jeroni could do the same as Caba and never acheive his potential, but hopefully with the Beta family behind him this wont be the case. PS: This is not a 'Beta' thing (am still waiting for mine to arrive) as I have been on a Gasser for ever and ever till now.
  16. Great crash, great escape but most importantly - great girls.....
  17. mega ride by Dibs! was unsure about move to 4T power but appears to be doing him fine, keep it up and long may it continue As for Fajardo, he has the skill and ability to easily be top 3 in the world, what he is lacking at the moment is the mental ability to maintain his results and cope with the pressures of staying ahead of riders he is capable of beating. Beta have a great team of people working for them and Fajardo will be more at home with them than he was with Gas Gas where he was always in Raga's shadow. If he stays fit and works on the mental side of his riding he can be one of the best in my opinion. Just look what riders Beta have bought to the very top of the trials world - Jordi Tarres Marc Colomer Dougie Lampkin Toni Bou Can any other manufacturer claim this?? NO I cant think of a better place for Jeroni to be at the moment
  18. One thing I will say is Betas like good gas. Hi, I have always run bikes on Shell Optimax with Castrol TTS and occasionally Castrol Octane booster. Assume this is OK with a Beta? Cheers for info
  19. Hi I had my rims and hubs done a while ago at Wicked Wheels in Maidenhead - cost me
  20. What about a Keihin carb?? I understand that Maria Conway now runs one of these and it great!
  21. Thanks for this, made interesting reading.... Also made me think - Jeez! should I really be getting one of these things?? Is it worth me getting the float extension bowl and carb jet kit fitted B4 I collect bike?? (gonna be about 2 weeks before there are some in UK!!) Cheers
  22. Hi Mick, was a big help thanks. After consultation with the boss the only way I could do it was on 0% finance - sorry! Will call you ASAP when got it as I need clothes, a few add on bits etc etc. Cheers Nick
  23. Hi First time for me on these forums and soon to be first time for me on a Beta after 12+ years on a Gasser I have been a Gas Gas rider since 1995 and always loved them, however with maintenance time becoming scarce I have decided to move to the less time/maintenance intensive Beta. Having ridden a 250cc and a 270cc I have ordered a 270cc, primarily as it appears to offer more low down grunt and grip (please correct me if I am wrong on this!) I have heard people discussing the carb issues on the Rev3's and am now wondering a) exactly what the issues are?? and what I need to ensure is done to the carb before I collect my shiny new bike?? I have spoken with the dealer when ordering the bike and they say that it 'should' all be OK with the bike and the carb, however as a total newbie to Beta issues I want to make sure I know what needs doing so I can go back to the dealer and advise them what I want done. I dont have a problem with buying some new bits (someone mentioned a larger float bowl) but obviously am wanting to ensure that the bike is 100% when I first ride a trial. Thanks
