Thanks for that is there a site I can check the spcification on the bike over its manufacture period? I have tried to date the 2 bikes but I think I have to pay does anyone have rough dates for manufacture, thought the 348 only went upto 1980 but the younger bike is 51m1606*

Hi are there differences in 348 frames! I have just purchased 2 (one in bits) the frame around the engine is different on both, one has a projected tube around the frame to protect the engine but the frame starting with 51m160** does not, was this just a model change?

Thanks for that, the 348 with the engine number on the front starts 51m 129* the other one with the number at the back of the engine is 51m 160*. These mach up with the frame numbers. Whats the difference between the standard and the Cota bikes you mention?

Hi anyone point the way to dateing my 348's. I have one number stamped on the front engine of one machine but the other stamped behind the barrel? both are 51M, was there any change over the model over its lifetime to the engines or can one engines parts be used in the other. Thanks

Hi when I bought my latest Bulto (199) its all in pieces. As ever bought it off a guy who was going to rebuild it to its former glory. It had a noise in the engine so he stripped the whole bike down and put it into boxes. Found out that he could not find out what the problem was and left it! So I end up with Saturday putting it all roughly back together again to find out what

Thanks for that its just the trye was new and off a modern bike ande most of all it was cheap!!. I think I will get an IRC as I am just back on trails after 20 years and have a forest/valley and quarry near by to mess in, when I stop falling off trying to do impossible climbs I will start looking for trails in the East Yorks area but there does not see to be many about. Hi could anyone help me with a rear tyre selection? I have been offered a 4.10 x 18 for by back wheel, will this be too wide on a 198/199 as the stock ones are 4.00 x 18. Anyone inform me what the best tyre and pressure to use just for local trails and a bit of fun. Thanks

Hi everyone can anyone tell me the correct colour for a 199a and a 198a? Not sure if they are all blue or all red or silver or......! The 199a looks like the frame is light blue, with matching tank, but the bottom of the forks are just polished! The 198a's frame looks silver with light blue tank? the forks at the bottom are black! The 198 has a polished bottom end with a black top where as the 199 has a black bottom and a polished top! Anyone tell me the colour codes as I am just going to send the frames for painting. Bit naughty but has anyone got a mag outer cover with the thumbs up sign on for one of these as one of them is beyond repair. Also any side panels. I will be posting pictures on the rebuilds for more help/comments. Thanks.

Anyone help on this one, I have a 198a with an unstamped engine that works fine (but looks like someone has taken the number off deliberately!) found a pair of similar numbered engine "198a" casings to match the frame number, started stripping the unstamped engine that fits into the frame fine and just wondered before I get carried away if all the internals will fit into the "a" engine? I am told that some of the internals are slightly different but not to sure which ones. I think I need a shorter kick start shaft and a slimmer outer casing if anyone can help. Also is it good practice to change all bearings as there is 2 on one side and 1 on the other. Thanks

Hi anyone help with the chrome on my forks, just rebuilding a 199 for fun use then when I get the hang of these things again will start in local trails. Problem are the forks! There is some pitting in the chrome, they did not leak any oil when in use (before strip down) but will more use mess up the seals. Is it an expensive job to get them re-chromed.

I am trying (money, kids, wife decorating walking the dog ..... etc permitting) to restore a Bulto 198a (has anyone got a 198a 250cc engine out there!!) and whilst it does not have the correct Bulto engine will be ready soon.
