  1. Hello all, I have this regular dream of taking a month of work, loading up the trials bike in the back of a van and then setting of to sunny spain to ride nothing but my bike for a month. Has anyone done anything along these lines and care to share any advice or tips of places to accomadate this sort of thing and contacts of clubs etc, I have in my head places like oximoto, area's around valencia barcelona and anything in between. I would also like to take in a few places on the way down from Scotland through england to dover so anything on the way down would also be cool, Obviously the restrictions are we do a weekend sport, so Im looking for places that would be accessible all week!!! And most importantly I would be on a tight budget so would look to do everything on the cheap, maybe thats just because im aberdonian!! Anyway that is the dream any comments would be appreciated,
  2. I would not even be considering whether or not to impose these time penalties! Think what you would expect to happen if it was you in that position!? They're observation scores should be irrelevent as it could have happened to any rider out there!! For the reputation of the event and future fairness i would deem that as mitigating circumstances and waiver those time penalties! The police backed up the fact they had stopped them so no cheating was taking place! I imagine in future it would maybe be a better idea to invite the police along to the start of the event and invite them to inspect any vehicles, before the event commences! (obviously an ideal world scenario) But look at the ssdt where the authorities are aware of how well the machines are scrutinised! and they dont go around doing routine stops! just if your committing an offence!
  3. Great stuff, all the recent rider changes have mixed things up a bit! So we going to see a lampkin replica gas gas!? lampkins experience might just be enough to help coach raga and get him another world title to steal bou's crown! need to visit ladbrokes and see what the odds are for lampkin to win the ssdt i'd put my money on that!!
  4. check your fuel filter i bet there is some dirt in there!
  5. i agree its a really poor design, And when you ride in scotland when its pretty much always muddy a proper solution would be very welcomed!!
  6. Ever tried brushing wet mudd? you end up with a muddy brush! can you now see a prediciment? I used kitchen role and Carb cleaner last trial to disperse the mudd! not ideal between laps!!
  7. Good shout i think i'll go for this idea!
  8. Hi, Im sure you will agree the 2011 sherco is a great bike, Ive only had a few minor niggles with mine, so far "touch wood" my biggest problem is the fuel filler cap area just collects dirt! I cover it with duck tape every trial, But the area is just so vunerable to dirt falling in when filling up, Other than duck tape does anyone have any sort of good solution to this minor but really irritating problem!!!!!
  9. About ten years ago now, I went to a bon accord mcc trial at a place called ballindalloch, One of the club members be-friended the farmer, Who then went on to tell him He himself done a bit of trials and had an old bike sitting in the barn, I will never forget the joy and excitement of this guy coming running down the hill pushing a dusty but otherwise mint Yamaha ty 175, Asking anyone got fresh fuel lets see if this thing works, the delight when after about 50 kicks and lots of tinkering the thing burst in to life, His son went on to ride it for 2 years, Not bad at all for free!
  10. Cheers guys, Yeah collect an 2011 st 290 on friday so looking forward to that, Will do all off the above and some, looking forward to putting my first dent in a nice new tubular frame!!!!!!!
  11. Just Wondering if anyone has any tips on things to do to preserve a new bike eg things to coat spoke nipples in etc or look out for when running in a new bike?
  12. HA classic example of when to keep my gob shut, ps the only gardening that happens when im in section is me going of line and mowing the markers down!!!! looking forward to the new ground though!
  13. We sat in the grandstand a few times over the weekend, Especially on the last day when It was bucketing down with rain I thought that the commentators done a fantastic job at keeping the crowd entertained there was always something happening! Great job
  14. Great points dan Williams and would back that stance on the use of the rules 100% it's what should be happening!
  15. Thanks for clarifying the essential principal of the sport, I am already aware of what the sport is, I am not however aware of the governing rules of the sport that affect that essential test you mention! I refer to best of British as being cancelled to back up what I say about the main stream, which I think this event being cancelled is a great shame. the sport is not more widely recognised and the riders not more rewarded on there ability as sportsmen/ women! As the fim are trying to do by introducing new rules and restrictions this does make the format complex to keep up with in comparison to let's say a motocross race where there is only one wonner
  16. Care to back up what you say? I would point out that the best of British trial has been cancelled!
  17. Think I've maybe been misconstrued here I am not personally attacking any off the observers at any trial, merely pointing out how a performance of an individual is not correctly scored based upon the factors that do occur with any observer in that position! This means that the format of scoring a trial at present in my personal opinion is in-effective! Don't mean to sound like a ****, but I did state what a fantastic weekend it was, maybe I can now see why trials is not in the mainstream with such a complex, hard to follow format that's non transparent for fans and the general public
  18. I 100% respect all observers Marshall's, organisers riders and everyone else involved in organising any trial at any level any where in the world, Just maybe astounded a bit that a world stage level athlete's performance can maybe be incorrectly judged by no fault of the scorer as they didn't see it, it's a bit like two people going to sit an exam knowing all the time and effort you have put in, then the other person comes along cheats and gets a better score than you! Not fair! But hey it happens!
  19. Sure did happen Toni bou section 4, Martin lampkin then stood in the same spot and wasn't shouted at!
  20. You are totally correct John, the observer can only score what they seen! That is the problem, If the final result of a trial is awarded based purely on what a single observer seen and they have put themselves in a position where they cannot see the riders whole performance or at least see both their feet at all times, what makes them a credible judge of someone's performance? Maybe a review of how a trial is observed is what needs to happen? I'd say trials is a unique form of motorsport in which the riders result could be disputed as it is not awarded based on fastest time etc which couldn't really be contested!
  21. Had an absolutely fantastic weekend up in fort bill, My first experience of a world round! This comment does not include all observers (I no trials could not go on without them) but unfortunately in some sections I have never seen poorer observation to date, Even with crowds shouting and pointing out wrong decisions things where going un-noticed (was a bit like germany v england).... This Did not spoil the action for me at all, We just felt some riders had been cheated out of a fair decision, I am aware that riders will try and bend the rules, But in all cases there are mitigating circumstances and poor decisions can affect a riders mind set and alters there performance due to frustration, given that these observers dont observe at world level all the time does this create a degree of incompetance? I like some of the new rules eg the time limit and riders or minders arent allowed in the section, unless permitted?? But should an observer be allowed to shout "OUT, OUT" during a rider riding the section and the rider stop, Put his foot down turn to the observer and say out? How I am still in, observer then says no not you your minder? Who had been given permission to be in the section, Then score the rider for putting His foot down, Going of balance then subsequently fiving the section! three other minders i seen had done exactly the same and not been shouted at!!!!!

    Rough Idle

Strip n clean carb, put in a new spark plug, clean and replace air filter! Drain replace radiator with fresh coolant! Start up using fresh premixed fuel! That should ensure it runs smoothly!
  24. Just seen pictures today of the new cabastany replica bike (www.todatrial.com) I must admit I was hoping for something extra special, i really like the new style sherco but was holding of buying to see what the limited edition would look like, in comparison to the raga that has an endless list of branded parts! The new sherco just looks like some gold rims, sticker kit, s3 300 cylinder and that's pretty much all your extra hard earned pennies would buy you!! Although I do want to stick with riding a sherco, I'm now thinking your money goes a lot further on a raga.......
  25. I'm really happy for jake and andy to have been able to travel the world and attend so many wtc rounds, especially during the previous years economic downturn, I'm sure you may have both done a great deal for the promotion of trials, I don't however think that any of your efforts have gone un-rewarded
