  1. Why don't the dealers simply quote a price in Euros if that is what they have to pay in? That way any currency fluctuations would be borne by the purchaser and it would be demonstrably fair...

    Beta Rev Gear Oil

So, is anyone going to share the secret of the ATF spec? There seems to be several..
  3. Hi - I have no specific knowledge of this engine, but generally if a seal starts leaking then it will need replacement, so would suggest this is done first. On disassembly, it may become evident why the leak has occurred, but if not, then at least you will know that you have started from a known condition and any further leaking will require 'expert' advice.

    Swing Arm Shim?

Thanks for the info - that's where I put it anyway...

    Swing Arm Shim?

Hi - I recently stripped down my rear swing arm to lube the bearings, and it was only when I started re-assembling that I noticed a shim/washer on the garage floor- doh! I'm not sure where it dropped out from, but is more of a shim than a washer as it is very thin. Anyone confirm where it should go? Exploded diagram seems to suggest it is a washer for the big nut, but that already has a washer integated into it.... First hand knowledge required please
  6. Well, well thanks for all your replies. So it seems my informant was correct in one respect, but wrong in another. What I mean is that yes, Renthal chain may be made by Regina, but that doesn't mean it is the same spec/quality as a Regina branded chain. I guess that is an acceptable situation for both companies, as they can both appeal a slightly different customer base - one buying on top quality only and one buying with the price in mind - at least I hope that is the case.... This kind of thing apparently goes on in many industries where a big 'name' OEM will also manufacture similar product for resellers to re-brand, so I say good luck to Renthal - providing their claims of a superior product are not simply calculated cynical marketing.
  7. Hi - I just bought a new Renthal chain after reading in these forums that they are the best. However, a guy in my local shop just stated that they are actually made by Regina and just branded Renthal. He stated that Renthal don't actually manufacture any chain themselves at all. Seems a bit strange after what I have read, and also as I compared them in the shop and they appeared to be different to me, with the Renthal looking a heavier duty item. Can anyone confirm or deny this statement, as I paid a lot more for Renthal than the cost of Regina, and I would like to know if I paid simply for the name or not. Thanks in advance.
  8. Thanks for that. I found a similar product on Frost auto site, but they are designed for steel petrol tanks, and I wondered if they are suitable for plastic.
  9. Do you have more details on flow liner and where to get it?
  10. Can you operate the clutch manually with the slave cylinder removed? There could be a mechanical problem caused by incorrect assembly during rebuild...
  11. How much are the float bowl extensions?
  12. Thanks again for the advice. I hope the O-ring chain is not knackered, as it's been petrol washed at least twice - doh It seems OK, but point taken. I would imagine white spirit would be OK though?

    Reed Blocks

Thanks very much for the prompt reply - I'm on a steep learning curve re. trials and there is a lot to get to grips with (sic). I will probably leave it for a while and concentrate on riding technique for now. Cheers, Laurie.

    Reed Blocks

Hi - is it necessary to replace the reed blocks after so much service as a routine operation or not? If not routine, then how do you know when to change them? should they be inspected routinely? do I need new gaskets to do this or can you re-use? Are there upgraded types available and are they any good? What differences would be noticed? Thanks, Laurie.
  15. Thanks folks - looks like a common issue, and more a characteristic of the engine than a fault, so I won't worry about it again. Appreciate the feedback.
  16. Thanks for the info everyone - much appreciated. I am removing the chain regularly and washing in petrol then soaking in old gearbox oil then draining and wiping. This was suggested by a guy I met out on practice, and seems to work very well. The chain doesn't pick up too much crap this way. I tried silkolene chain lube, but up at Charltons (Guisbrough) where I ride, the soil is very gritty, and the chain picks up loads of crap with a sticky lube. Anyway, thanks again Laurie.
  17. Hi - when I start my 05 Rev3 from cold it fires up immediately, but for the first few minutes running it hesitates and sort of misfires when you rev it. There seems to be a definite loss of power and it does not pull cleanly. This is even after leaving it ticking over for a few minutes before riding. however after a couple of minutes just tooling around, this problem disappears and the bike behaves perfectly with loads of power and pulls cleanly all day. I'm sure it didn't do this when I got it, but that was only a couple of months ago and as it's my first bike I may have been mistaken. I have stripped and cleaned the carb but it is still the same, and the air filter is cleaned regularly. Is this normal? and if not - what could it be?. Possibly the reed valve? Any advice appreciated - Laurie.
  18. Hi, My son and I are both new to trials and my bike (Beta Rev3 250) has a regular chain, while his Scorpa SY250 has an o-ring chain fitted. What is the purpose of this type, and what are the advantages/disadvantages of each? Idon't think either needs repacing just yet, but I want to know for future reference. I did a search, but all I could find was that most people recommend Renthal chains and sprockets. Is it wise to change the sprockets and chain together or just replace the chain and leave the sprockets until there is visible wear? Cheers, Laurie.
  19. Thanks for the heads-up. My missus said it was also in the local M'bro press that a gang were following people home and also spotted watching folks outside washing off their bikes after riding, then turning up later and having a go at thieving them - b******s! I am going to install a garage alarm system ASAP. I tried insurance, but quotes are too much for me with two bikes..
