    Yam Ty270

Ay up folks, just rebuilt my 92 Yam mono engine with new mains, big end, con-rod, gudgeon pin, crank seals etc. Also put a s/h 270 barrel and head (higher compression looking at the facing) with shortened inlet tract on it. Rode it yesterday, powerful but pinks like hell and from idle it doesnt rev cleanly, only a little bit but its not smooth. Any ideas? Eiger
  2. Ralph, I never drop a 2p, I might let go of the bars from time to time but cash is cash! Eiger
  3. Ralph, I dont cable tie my feet to the pegs I just drink copious amounts of alcohol the night before which makes me think I am in control when the bike is obviously out of control. It also makes me relaxed for when I hit the ground when I do have the inevitable crash! Mac got away with loads of fives last year, on one section he stopped in the middle, had a brew and a butty and the observer gave him a clean! The pro 07 he's talking about will be coming at a cheap price, he's been to the bike shop every day they are giving it away to get rid of him! Eiger
  4. Great day out, good mix of sections too. Nice to meet others like Betarev3 from further afield. As Mac says its good to see other club members giving up their day to observe like Andy and Tom along with all of the others, not an easy task to get 20 observers so well done to Terry and a big thanks to the volunteers. Probably cut it a bit fine setting out as it was a bit of a rush on Saturday but everyone got on with it and it was sorted just as it went dark! I rode round with Mac last year and missed an ends card early on, but got away with it although I was reminded every ten minutes until Mac missed one and got away with it!! All the best to the family Mac. Eiger
  5. Drive home from trial, after half an hour in car insert ear-plugs as had enough listening to 16yr old son taking me through every inch of every section of every lap along with gear choice etc etc Thirty miles from home (strange as venue only ten miles to get to) suddenly remember in-laws are coming for tea, stop at first pub for pint as it helps numb senses and suppress overwhelming desire to whack the Mother-in law over head with large heavy shovel Realise only got switch card, no cash left as paid for trial and petrol, root through glove box and find four pound coins and eighteen 20p pieces all encrusted in mouldy chocolate, cash is cash. Order one pint and a coke and bag of Walkers cheese and onion crisps for the boy, struggle to lip-read barman, say "pardon mate" five times before realising earplugs still in, remove earplugs just in time to hear barman scream; "THAT'LL BE FIVE QUID YOU DEAF T**T." Sit down drink pint whilst holding bag of crisps, squeezing bag each time the boy dips his hand in (well I did pay for them) return to bar risk half a pint and bag salt and vinegar after blaming boy for eating most of first bag. Leave pub, replacing ear-plugs, call at off-licence near home to purchase cheap beer for Father-in-law in order that I get the decent stuff to myself. Arrive home removing ear-plugs to hear the boy saying; "and on section seven on the second lap!!" See in-laws car outside and breath rapidly into brown paper bag for a few minutes before deciding to enter house Instuct boy to empty car, get bikes off trailer, lock up in garage etc, whilst I go in to get beer and shower as its only fair that he should repay me in some way for taking him to trial, boy reminds me of pub visit and does Mum know, I remind boy of feeling of intense and sudden pain, boy promises to keep quiet Enter house, quickly remove decent cans of beer from fridge replacing them with Aldi pale ale at 1.9% ABV, run upstairs with good beer shouting "Hello be down after quick shower" into front room as passing. Cough very loudly in time to disguise noise of ring pull on can breaking seal, hear wife shout,"NO BEER ALLOWED IN THE BATHROOM", start thinking of heavy shovels again. Drink beer quickly to avoid possibility of confiscation, shower, dress, greet in-laws and wife, boy enters room bang on time to be centre of attention. Refuse to let him go for shower until in-laws have gone, grit teeth to sound of, "motorbikes are so dangerous why can't you take up another hobby." Pick up Machine Mart catalogue, peruse 'building' section concentrating on stainless steel shovels, make plans to measure patio
  6. Yep was a good day out, me and the boy had 6 and 7 then swapped. Both took marks with only 3 cleans on the tough number 6 on the hard route, 2 of these courtesy of Dan Thorpe and one by Craig Robinson who after cocking it up on the 1st lap made it look easy on the 2nd. An enjoyable day in the sun, managed to just about tolerate the abuse from Andy Hipwell (there is always one!) just a shame more riders don't appreciate the classic good looks of Wulfsport! Just need to get the bike rebuilt before the Macc trial which is also a superb event. Eiger
  7. I'm trying to register a TY250 Yam Pinkie which is a 93 model. I've got the dating letter from Yamaha UK and an MOT certificate on the frame number. I phoned Carole Nash Insurance today but they tell me that they can no longer issue an insurance certificate on the frame number and I need a registration number? I tried the DVLA but after listening to an hours worth of pre-recorded messages I gave up until tomorrow. Anyone out there who can give me some guidance? Thanks, Eiger.
  8. I reckon the 200 is the dogs, grips almost as well as my Yam (!), we've got an 04 200 and its been ultra reliable, a superb bike well capable of dragging 13 stone about!

    Pot Hunters

Choosing a route at a trial is never easy, most of us want to test ourselves but at the same time enjoy our day out and be well enough to arrive at work the next day in order to earn enough money for the following event. Pot-hunters exist in every sport/past-time. A similar principle can be applied to many riders, for example in the Scottish Six Day Trial, I have arrived a sections many of times only to see a dry and warm rider at the section in front of me and yet I know thay have not passed me on the road but they started after me. They have obviously been dropped off by white van man! Some riders will complete every inch of the trial and some will get more outside assistance than Michael Schumacher and still believe in their own minds they have genuinely finished the SSDT and earned their award. We all want to improve and yet enjoy ourselves and be competitive whilst remaining uninjured so that we can still work and earn enough money to survive and have a bit spare for that next trial but common-sense has to prevail. Some clubs are increasing the number of routes available, Macclesfield club now put on three routes with an extra option of a 50/50 middle to hard route giving an entrant four options which helps the rider pick an ideal route for his/her own riding ability. But at club trial level we have to remember that enjoyment is the name of the game, and whereas some riders want to take on every rock in every section their are many others who just want to wobble round without any threat of injury whilst enjoying a brew with their mates. Eiger.
  10. Me and my lad will probably be riding both of the trials aswell, hopefully wont be as wet as today!
  11. yes Benny took time out from his supermoto escapades
  12. Yes i took my lad there last week and observed on section 8 as you know. The boy has asked me not to mention that he was last in the results on the 50/50 route, so I won't (mention it that is!!) Good trial though, just scouring TMX for next weeks venue - you got any plans? Eiger.
  13. Section 4, you know, the one you 3'd on your first two laps and then cleaned it the last two laps when it was at its hardest
  14. Sections appeared spot on , shame you can't pre-order the weather. But despite the wind and rain lots of riders seemed to have enjoyed themselves. I suspect the observers are only just starting to thaw out, including myself, although its surprising what a few tins of boddy's will do for you
  15. Totally agree there pal but its like all walks of life, a lot just take and give nowt back. Its just good to see Gas Gas UK doing their bit yet again to help promote the sport, I think I even saw Andy (I like a ) Hipwell! looking sober and still happy!! Some good rides on the day too by some of the more mature riders!!!! Eiger.
  16. Provisional results on hard route Dan Thorpe, Chris Pearson and Mike Roberts and on clubman route John Hulme, Chris Clarke and Dave Thorpe. Another superb trial by Man 17 supported by Team Gas Gas UK as almost every member of staff were present and helping run the trial. Great day out. Eiger
  17. The sections for the clubmen do not need changing they are perfect, I cannot comment on the harder sections but every clubman I spoke to said the organisers got it spot on. To include a few straightforward (I assume this means easier) sections in the trial gives some of the riders a chance of a clean if they have been struggling on some of the harder ones. The sections from my recollection have been similar for more than three years but they are classic sections that can not and should not be dropped. You can not please all of the people all of the time but you can please most of the peoople most of the time, and the organisers did exactly that. In fact I wish it was last Saturday at 9.30 again!! Eiger.
  18. Yep, great trial well organised and the sections were spot on. Nice to see those employees of Gas Gas UK out in force helping setting sections and running the trial on the day as well as Henry of Renthal fame amongst others. Top trial, top people. Although it looked like Andy Hipwell had too many of these the previous night!!!! Eiger.

    Trials World

Earlier in this topic Andy mentions having received a cheque from Shirty to help meet the costs of running this site. Undoubtedly a nice touch from the Gas Gas importer and can only be a good thing from a business perspective. I would be happy to pay a subscription to be able to access all of the information on this site, as it would help secure the interest of all trials riders and benefit the future of our sport. It will be interesting to see what others think. Eiger

    Footrest Mod ?

Marky A couple of years ago Kev Seward at Birketts fitted a pair of Hebo pegs to a pinkie I had at the time. He didn't add any metal to the frame but just ground off the original hangers and welded the new ones as far down and back as he could. And I thought it rode really well. A mate of mine decided he would add metal to his 'R' and put his pegs even further back but its too much and the bike goes everywhere on the back wheel. Another job Kev did was to split and repack the exhaust front box which really made the bike much smoother and yet it seemed to rev out better. Good luck Eiger

    Bantam Help

Folks. Got an offer on a Wassell frame for the Bantam but know nowt about em. Can anyone out there enlighten me. And where can I get a trials exhaust for the Bantam that fits neatly unlike the standard road version. This cheap winter, spring, summer, autumn, winter etc etc project is costing me a fortune and will end up being the value of half my house but at least it wont moan about summat every night. In fact it will help her that moans about summat to make up her mind and bugger off for good! Eiger

    Bantam Help

A while back I bought a BSA Bantam 175 as an unfinished trials project, its a D7 frame but the rear tyre (4.00 x 18) catches the swinging arm. Does anyone know the best mod? Is is a case of extending the swinging arm behind the shock mounts or is their a better way? Cheers Eiger

    Lancashire Ty Man

I've used JK Hirst for a few years and agree they are very professional but John Cane is one of the most helpful blokes I've spoken to and will go out of his way to help you sort a problem, he posts on the twinshock website quite a bit. Cheers Eiger
