  1. I managed to borrow a Snap-on tacho/timing gun off a friend to set mine. I was suprised to see that I had it ticking over at 1950 rpm. Anyway the Snap on gun has a nice HT lead clamp, just take care to position it so it doesn't catch the fan when it comes on. :banana2:

  2. Very, very sad news. Not just for fans of motorsport, he managed to become an ambassador for the sport and brought rallying and Subaru into the Public's eye.

I will always remember following him round the '95 Network Q in awe at his total commitment and flamboyant driving! I managed to get to the finish of the last stage in Clocaenog where he captured the world crown. David Richards flew into the middle of the forest to congratulate him, a special moment.

    Condolences to the Mcrae family.

  3. Hi Gary

I have a manual but also have a Z so need to keep it, let me know what you need to know and I'll look it up for you. Don't forget that it's the same motor in the Scorpa SY250, there's a website somewhere with a parts list/manual.

Depending on your location it also means that engine parts are easy to come by through your local Scorpa dealer or importer.

Torx. I just bought a single 3/8 socket drive Torx bit from tool supply house (Grainger over here)

    Allen would be risky IMO.

    NO, NO, NO and NO!!!!

It's simply a bi hex 12mm allen bolt and therefore a 12mm allen key is the correct tool. The original tool supplied with the bike is such, you're making things far more complicated than they need to be!!!!

  5. The best plug for the Yam is an Iridium BPR6EIX, the P stands for protuding nose which you can get away with, however the most important thing is that you run an R plug. R stands for resistor and is essential when using cdi ignition as it cuts out interference from the plug.

So the standard plug is a BR6ES but the the best is a BPR6EIX.

Have a look at www.sparkplugs.co.uk loads of good gen on there and cheap too! :D

Regarding the reply by Hughesy - no you are not the observer I'm referring to, even though you may think that's so, in fact, I wasn't at the top sub of Kilmalieu for long and when there was taking pics, so didn't notice how you were observing. The section I'm referring to was another day and I don't know who the observer was.

I was replying to Gizza5's post.

On another note I was particularly cheesed off at the amount of riders who asked for a 5 on my sections, I won't name names, but they were serial offenders! One lad rode my last section with no clutch lever rather than ask for a 5, I don't know how, but he cleaned it!! My point is that some see spending

  7. Observers were in the majority the same Stalwart crews (good on you boys) and good job done, some of the new faces were a bit harsh on us clubbys and fiving us for the momentary stop, I havn't really got a problem with it, but as Mike has pointed out would the same observer have fived a top rider I too am not sure. I did some pushing this week through the tough sections and busted my guts to hopefully get a 3 only to no avail sometimes!!!!

I actually said to one observer, who after pushing and struggling through a toughie and managing to reach the end cards ''was that ok?'' FIVE came the answer, ''That's me lost the trial then I said''

I take it you mean the top sub at Kilmalieu?? I was the observer!

I didn't get a ride this year so went up to observe for a few days, I've ridden the Scottish 4 times and thought observing would be a piece of cake. How wrong I was! Sometimes the difference between a 3 and a 5 is tiny. When a rider stopped ( feet up or not) I counted "one, two" and if they were still stationary then it was a 5 in my book. I'm sorry if you didn't agree but I was consistent throughout the (long) day, so was impartial with everyone. Tommi Ahvalha also fell foul to a 5 for stopping and took the decision very well, we laughed at your response, that's how I remember it was you!!

You can ride every section in first, no need for any changes, the throttle grip gives you all the mapping you need.

I agree, I rode 22 out of 23 sections at the Ian Pollock in 1st but I like the fact you can soften it if you want to not because you need to, I tried it and found I really liked it. The point is, I'm not riding World round sections or British championship sections for that matter and believe that the softer map just takes the edge off the bottom and you can still have it revving to the moon.

100% correct. BTW which one didn't you do in 1st? Top one in Blackwater?

Only thing now is that you don't need this option on an 07 bike as it's great straight out of the box. This years upgrade is probably how they should have been from day one

Yes Perce, it was Blackwater but not the Blackwater SSDT sections but ones on the bedrock below the dam, a nasty big step at the end just needed a bit more waft than first could give!

I'd love to try an 07 to see the difference but can't afford to change at the minute anyway so I'll have to do with blinging my 06! :o

I think I might observe this year at the SSDT, so I'll keep an eye out for a bloke on a shiny new Mont.

  10. Arent we in danger of de-tuning the 4RT to the point of losing one of its best features..???? If you dont want the power why buy a monty?

I think you've answered your own question, If you don't want the power, you buy a monty beacause you can alter the characteristics to suit.

  11. I don't think they changed the spokes on any of the Mono's, only the hub and rim colour's changed over the years., apart from the pinky which obviously had a disc.

Firstly you've basically got 2 x groups of models ( N & the more common S) which is the steel tanked road going one and the (L & the more common R) which had the smaller plastic tanks. However, these do have more differences other than the tanks, the frames are different as is the porting ( I think ) and the head (the S has a head steady) as well as jetting. Again as a guide the R has has less brackets.

See here for the S http://www.ataq.qc.ca/galerie/showimg.php?...1985_TY250s.jpg

See here for the early R http://www.ataq.qc.ca/galerie/showimg.php?...a1984_TY250.jpg

Over the years the R mono was developed/improved with a different piston (shaped crown), lower footpegs, better shocks ( no remote cylinder, remote cylinder, and finally remote cylinder with adj damping. They even changed the white on the front mudguards of the Pinky for a more brilliant white and cut the sump guard down a bit.

    88 Model see here http://www.ataq.qc.ca/galerie/showimg.php?...1988_TY250r.jpg

Pinky 91 on see here http://www.ataq.qc.ca/galerie/showimg.php?...1992_TY250r.jpg

Pinky frame and engine No's start with the prefix 4AJ, which is important as a lot of mono's are advertised as pinkies with aftermarket front discs, which quite frankly are ****e!

I hope this makes sense!!! :o

  12. To be honest KuelMuel the 270 isn't really worth doing, it involves boring out so the liner is at it's thinnest limit, using a DT/IT piston and then machining the bottom of the barrel to get the port timing and squish back. I've had "270"'s before and don't get me wrong it was a lovely bike but not worth the extra hassle in my opinion, the extra capacity worked out at about 12cc

Instead, get the barrel ported (mainly raising and opening out the exhaust port). tidy up the transfer ports, shorten the inlet, lighten the flywheel and advance the ignition. I've recently done my Pinkie and am well happy with the motor.

  13. <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> had them in when I was last in there

No I've tried them, they're trying to get me some, the ones they had/have are the Fujigas reps and the 05/06 RTL plastics which are a deep red. The 07 RTL plastics are predominantly white with red and blue graphics not painted like Fujigas reps.

  14. I'm taking Glucosamine and Chondroitin (when I remember) for my knee. To be honest I can't tell if it's having any effect as my knee's are pretty goosed and I certainly haven't turned into Lee Majors  , but after doing some research I decided it can't do any harm other than to my bank balance.

There's a liquid variety out now that's supposedly more easily absorbed by the body which I'll be trying when my tablets have run out.

Sorry, I know it's vague news but I've had no mircale recovery as I said.

  15. Who's this "Jamie Stokes" ? I'm from no were near you , I think you must be thinking of someone with a different TLR200. After all there were 100s made mate.

If and it appears to be a big IF, you aren't Jamie Stokes, then perhaps you both attend the same school?:thumbup:

  16. In 1984 David LLoyd won the senior class and Steve Colley won the junior class of Junior Kickstart. Not sure who won the Adults that year but it's a start.

David Lloyds victory was completely out of the blue as he was on a twinshock Fantic up against Rob Sartin who was on the new TY Mono and the likes of Phil Disney, Wayne Braybrook, Duncan Baxter etc however the heavens opened after Davids ride giving him the chance to take the win.

He later burnt his house down by accident whilst lighting the fire, destroying the house and winners trophy in the process! I'm pretty sure he was presented with another when they heard the story. smile.gif

Hope this is of some use.
