  1. Hi all

F1 has struggled to keep going and made many changes to keep Teams and sport alive.

Trials or the FIM should take a look at this.

Here's some suggestions or topics areas for trials:

Maximum engine displacement of 250 cc

Minimum weight of 155 lbs at tech inspection - 70 kgs

Minimum seat height of 30 inches

FI, programmable and 2 or 3 map ignitions banned - (have you ever priced this stuff out?)

Production models must be used in competition by world round riders.

    results: -

a bike that the public can better identify with

much lower manufacturing costs and R&D

sections difficulty will have to adapt to lower power and heavier bike. (world level)

lower bike costs for the customers, trials target market will grow, trials will grow, manufacturers won't have struggle to stay in business.

    cheers

    bob

dude let the engineers have their fun, tying their hands will make bike development slow, look at what AMA did to Motocross, no more works factory bikes, a damn shame if you ask me, yes they were trying to level the playing field so the little guy could go up against the big money, it makes no difference at all, the best rider is still going to win.

for trials to grow it's needs EXPOSURE, I've been at this over 30 years, not much has changed in the trials world nor is it going to.

take a lesson from NASCAR, the drivers hate NASCAR beceause of all their stupid rules, restrictor plates bla bla bla, let em go let em do their best, let them do anything they want to make the bikes the best they can be, trickle down technology will end up in your hands as time goes by. in the end it makes no difference at all the best rider will still win

hell we might as well make them all ride '78 bultacos.. right?

  2. want to learn how to do 180 flick what gear should i use any advice will help form anything.

start small and work up to it, use a kicker to help, if you can do a 90 flick which is not that hard, practice taking it futher as you get better at applying the technique

  3. between BR6ES plug and a BPR6ES plug? can i use the "p" plug in my 315r??

don't use the BP. The "P" plug has an extended electrode, it's ground strap sits aproximatly 5mm further down in the combustion chamber, some engines this creates a clearance problem from the piston to the sparkplug, the "P" plugs are generally used in 4-stroke engines that are designed for this type of plug

  4. you can soften the power a bit by richining it up a little, raise the needle one clip position first, maybe one size on the main if the needle adjustment doesn't help, are the reeds and carb stock? the PWK's make the power a bit more snappy as well as Boyesen reeds. you should have smooth linear power on the 315, and they are usually not a problem for young or inexperienced riders, sounds like you bike just needs to be properly set up for your riding style

  5. I like the irridium plugs, they foul less and last longer,

I did 200,000 miles in the Nissan on one set, they were barely worn.

I'm not sure a trials bike can benifit from irridium plug, I ran a NGK BR6EIVX in the montesa and never fouled, can't get those anymore, using a B6ES now, would rather have at least a BR6EG...oh well

  6. not sure what year model you have but the mikuni roundslide is probably your best choice, replacment parts are common, my '80's 123 is fitted with a kehin, I would have chosen the mikuni but already had the kehin in my parts stash, best improvment I ever made on the bike.

  7. hopefully they sign some good riders and can make a go at World Trials, if they can do that they won't have any problem getting dealers to sign, personally I would like to see the bike in action before passing judgment, I am skeptical abought fuel injection on a 2 stroke. The design looks solid, lets see how good it works.

  8. Unfortunatly the future of montesa is not good-- the spanish factory is now only making plastics and painting-- the trials dept has now been moved to italy ( which is only the race dept) --all contracts are being honered for 2010 but for 2011 who knows!-- there is no more production and around 800 08/09 models left that will be sold this next year , but when there gone thats it!

whoa there solidman, I recomend you read ALL of the post on this subject, that's one hell of a first post.

  9. mark the location of the ring locating pins on the top of the piston with a felt tip marker, put the piston in the cylinder, move it through the stroke and see where the locaters line up, when installed correctly the ring end gaps will not be open to a port.

  10. my idea for my kids was to add a face gaurd from an american football place kicker' helment, it's a single bar that gives some added facial & jaw protection, the kids never got onto trials so it never got past the design idea, they still wear a full face MX helment when on their ATV's etc. don't know why this idea never caught on, it's simple and much safer for our children, I personally know 2 children who were severly injured from ATV and Trials accidents that required major facial reconstruction, neither kids had facial protection.

  11. Try re-assembling them using a 50/50 mix of brake fluid and suspension oil.

Cures most leaking shocks after 24 hours.

that right there is funny, don't think I will be trying that myself, just curious how many times have you tried this? how long does it last? weeks? years? do you remove the brake fluid after the seals swell enough to stop them from leaking? or just leave the brake fluid in permantly?

  12. the dowel pins are probably stuck, just need a bit more force, try side to side with your rubber malet, make sure all the bolts are out, not sure on that model but honda hides head bolts under the valve cover

  13. USD forks have more ragidity, remember the early techno had them, I think the aprilla climber had them also, in my oppinion they are top heavy compared to conventional forks in a trials application, the MX world demand USD forks beceause they are used to them.
