  1. Hi All I have a Cota 123, complete except for the piston which has a broken skirt. I can get an original part but I'll have the hassle of posting it here. Does anyone know of another (Japanese?) piston that might match? Thanks in advance. David in Johannesburg
  2. TrialsRfun Thanks for the advice. One further question: The Villiers S25 carb is missing the main jet. Will an Amal one fit? Regards David
  3. Hi All I'm going through the Villiers 37A motor on my Cheetah trials bike. I have a couple of queries : 1) There seems to be no gasket between the armature plate and the crankcase. I can't see one on the Villiers parts manual and repair manual either. There just was a smear of red hermatite gasket sealer on the mating halves when I took them apart. What is the correct way to re-assemble them? 2) There is a second coil in the left hand side of the armature plate which I presume is a lighting coil. The ignition coil is on the right hand side. Can someone please confirm this. 3) The gearbox and primary chaincase have oil filler and level indicator screws. Will SAE 30 oil filled to the level screws be ok for both? Finally, this is the first time I've ever worked on a Villiers Motor. Everything seems straightforward but is there anything that I should know that the manual does not tell you. Thanks in advance. David
  4. Jim Replace the coil with another unit. I've had a perfect looking coil malfunction after 5-10 minutes running, then work again after 1/2 hour standing. The only way to fix it was to replace it. Check that your tank breather is working, you could be getting slow fuel starvation from vacuum build-up. Good luck David
  5. The best way to do it is to go to a 12 tooth primary drive sprocket, then your rear wheel sprocket won't need to be enormous. Check out rex caunt racing: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BSA-BANTAM-TRIALS-EN...A1%7C240%3A1318 Regards David
  6. Bantamboy Try to find some C15 or late model D14 or B175 forks. These should be "bolt-on". I found a set of 30mm (ceriani?) forks of a small Italian roadster. They look period correct and work well but a were real toil to fit. Watch out for pre-65 rules. Regards David
  7. I dunno Colin. The bike is in kit form and it came with the 250 and 350 REH Barrels plus the original square one (250 REH was fitted) . I'm quite happy with a 250 trialler - the only complaint about my Bantam is that sometimes you need to wind it up to get up a steep slope. I only ever rode a 1978 350 montesa. Torque like crazy. I have yet to see another REH barrel. Maybe you need to troll the autojumbles or (dare I say it) Ebay. Regards David
  8. 08Colin Co-incidentally, with my Cheetah trials bike, I received a spare 350cc REH barrel for the 37A motor. According to Robin Humphries the REH unit uses a Greeves piston and I imagine it just bolts in. Regards David
  9. Here's a page with a more recent dog/racer. They also make a fond reference to Kookie. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=208363 David
  10. Hi all I'm looking for an old trials rider from the '60s and '70s called Mike Saintey. He should be around about 70 now. The last address I have for him is in Portsmouth where he was staying in 1998. The reason I'm looking for him is that he was the first owner of my Cheetah trials bike and I'm hoping to get some info that will assist me in restoring it to "as competed" condition. Thanks in advance. David
  11. Hi Big John After 6 months I finally got the bike. My wife heard me going on about the Cheetah and decided to buy it for me for my birthday. She phoned the seller behind my back, arranged to buy it and instructed him to tell me he'd had a change of heart about selling. I was gutted. Last week they wheeled the bike in at my birthday party. What a present! The bike/kit was bought new in 1967 from Bob Gollner. It was ridden by a MW Saintey who took it to South Africa in 1982. The original sales receipt says the frame number was 1518 but my chassis number is 1569 which correlates to the UK documentation (Registration LRV 101 G - Registered on 05/11/68 to MW Saintey) I have no idea when he was supposed to have competed in the SSDT Regards David
  12. Hi All This is my first post. I'm located in Johannesburg South Africa. I currently ride classic trials on a circa '67-71 BSA Bantam that I built up. I am about to get a Cheetah Villiers trials bike which is mostly original and has some history, including participation in the Scottish six days. I believe that this brand was a "kit bike". Does anyone have any pics or info that I may use to assist me to restore it correctly. I intend to ride this one in classic trials too. Thanks in advance David Haines
