If I remember rightly some Sy's were prone to a partial failure of the weld on that(pictured) actuator arm where the shaft disappears into the crankcase?
Could this cause the symptoms you describe?..maybe a Scorpa pro' could chime in here.
YES - But normally slowly loose adjustment as weld breaks.

Spotted Trevor woods (from the south midland centre) recieving a bafta a week or so back too.
Yes pretty cool - Rode the Pete Michell Trial in the afternoon not mentioning it - then a few hours later we see him on the box, live. : giving a speech after receiving his Bafta.
If there is plenty of meat left on them, put them in a vice and give them a good filing until you have got some new sharp edges - a large 'rat tail' file I find is best for this.
