  1. Hi, I set it @ 60mm with the damping rod as low as possible to simulate the case you note. If the damping rod is all the way out, I think you'd add somewhere between 25-30mm to oil height. I subsequently tightened both fork caps with the forks extended as far as possible. Thanks for the feedback! Cheers, Aaron

  4. Hi, So, I've been 'finally' riding my Sherco on the weekend. Its a 2006 Sherco 2.9. I bought it used a couple months back and have finally had a chance to ride it yesterday. I rode it in the back (paved) alley just trying out the whole slow turns & balance thing. It was allot of fun. Let the learning begin. Question... when the front wheel is unloaded, it seems kinda 'clicky' as tho the steering stem is loose but I don't think the stem is loose. It feels like at the bottom of the stroke that the suspension enters a different zone. I noticed it first when trying to pull the wheel off the ground. It felt like something snapped. But, then when just trying to pull the front end with the brake on, its like something shifts. Its really odd. You can actually see the front wheel take a shock load when it happens, it quite repeatable. The rear suspension also seems to have a distinct difference in stiffness when pushing on the 'seat' when standing next to it. Its super easy to push then just hits a much, much stiffer portion of the stroke. Again, I don't think its a problem, just looking for understanding. I'm used to enduro bikes where things are much stiffer and there are no discontinuities. I don't think these are problems but, at the same time, I'd like to understand them. I think the bike is bone stock. Its basically mint having been ridden by a relaxed, beginner rider. There's no scratches are anything on the bike anywhere. Thanks, Bark

    Strange Rattle

    A deep groove ball bearing typically has more axial clearance than radial clearance. (I'm assuming that the crankshaft bearings are deep groove ball bearings.) So, if they start out at C3 clearance, won't they have a measureable amount of end play? Or, are they preloaded in some way to take up the clearance? I work with rolling element bearings allot but am not an expert with how they are applied. And, the last 2t motor I had apart was an 87 RZ350, so no clue how these Shercos are put together.   7. I thought most of the goldish colored fork coatings was titanium nitride. I had thought that the darker chrome coloring was boron nitride. I believe that both materials are selected because they are super hard and that they accomplish this hardness by approximating the atomic structure of diamond. Anyone know? Bark

  10. I gather you're a purist, thats fine. I'm just wondering if there are alternatives to spending close to $400 on a pair of boots. I have spent allot of $$$'s on gear over the years and I don't mind doing so if its the 'only' way to go or even if its the optimum way to go. I don't mind at all trying to save a few bucks either. I wouldn't know if I didn't ask. Thanks, Bark
  11. Has anyone tried the 'shorty' boots that are around? I've got sticker shock when it comes to the trials specific boots that are available.     Hi, I'm new to the whole trials thing. I just picked up a beautiful 06 Sherco and I'm now basically clueless about what to do with it. Do I understand correctly from your post that the motor casing screws in these bikes are made from Aluminum? Or, did I understand that wrong? Thanks, Bark
  14. Thanks for the encouragement guys. I've checked out both the ADRA website and have enjoyed many pictures from Outlaw's website. I had originally seen a recommendation about Outlaw Trials from Paul N. from the RMDRA. He spoke super highly about your store. I wish it was next door so I could pop in and have a look! I also graduated from Revelstoke High School more than 20 years ago so had a sweet spot for your trip to Joss mountain. I've never been on that mountain but I love the area and could recognize some of the locations like three valley gap. The riding looks spectacular. Thanks, Bark
  15. Hi, I was lucky enough to watch a trials event for the 1st time a couple of weekends ago. It was in New York state near Elmira. I believe it was put on by a club/organization called District 4. Anyway, it was thoroughly enjoyable and I find myself interested in the sport. This seems like a great site to learn about the sport. My background is mostly with roadracing which I've declined to participate in for quite a few years now. I've been enjoying trail riding pretty continuously since 2001. Off road is utterly enjoyable for me and far less expensive. I've tried participating in one HS this past summer and I had a blast. I'm slow but I finished. I hope to do a few more events next year. My skills are low. Trial riding would be a great way to improve them. Thanks, Bark
