  1. Having just bought a Fantic 240 does anyone have the dates of the remaining venues. (What would be nice is if with a topic like this the calendar dates and venues are linked to this topic at the top of the page, i'm not moaning).

Does anyone know who is leading the Twinshock championship and have the link to the championship? Also, what riders are at the top and championship points table would be nice. On Sunday my Fantic will be rode in the Forest Trophy Trial, if anyone has experience of this event could you cast judgement as too the course for the Twinshock class compared to the Twinshock championship class?

  2. ITS RUNNING!!!!......second kick is all it took and after about a minute it was ticking over without me fiddling with the carb setup. Had a short ride up an alley and i can report its now wheelieing in third on throttle alone and no requirment to yank at the bars in this gear either. In comparison to where i started off a month ago when i bought the bike i had to give it the beans and yank at bars in first gear to have the front wheel lift - so its going a lot better i think i can say. Next job will be finish off the pegs buy some new tyres, and i'm toying with the idea of a 200cc conversion with the top yoke and a smaller petrol tank - recommend these? On sunday there is a pre67 and twin shock trial, or i've a modern bike trial, so what should i ride?....both events will be riding for FNA.

Thanks to you all for all your helpful advise. Thanks also to Steve Goode, Bill Pye, Classic Trials because with out these guy's this bike may have never seen the light for another 10 years.

  3. Whilst rumaging through the garage I remembered I had my old 2007 Beta Rev3 footrests. Guess what!!!.....a hacksaw and a few hours of filling has them now on the Fantic.....if anyones interested its a very easy job, no welding and using the existing mounts on the Fantic. For someone of my limited abilities its an easy job. The standard pegs are 26mm across, the Rev3 pegs are 45mm.

Source coil should be with me tomorrow. This will be the final job ready for starting......holding my breath

  4. LH, just PM'd you - thanks.

Today the cyclinder head came off i found two metal gaskets, which had been leaking. The piston and barrel look good, no slack on the pistion and compressing the piston the ports are cast nice with no rough edges. The new fuel tap was fitted the old having lots of crude on the filter. The new coil is fitted and the source coil has been sent away to have it re-wound. Next week it should be running with its new carb, anyway have a favorite spark plug?

    thanks,

  5. Lee ; Didn't you get that 300 brake off evilbay ? I got outbid w/a second or two to go ... One armed typing and all , but I had bid on the stay from the same guy and got that cause I thought it may be differant than the 240 . Greeve's recomendation was to open up the center (axle) hole in the stock 240 backing plate about 20 thou., reasemble but just snug the axle hardware ,then apply front brake to center shoes on drum and then tighten everything w/the brake still applied ... I put a zip tie on the brake lever pulled snug (after a few hard squezes to center it ) then torqed everything down . But testing it out in my no pressure on my left shoulder condition , it would get the backend real light with the presure I was comfortable to put on it ! And on my gravel driveway I locked the front w/little effort wilst sitting down ... It'll be fun when I can pressure both grips =ly . It feels to be at the one finger (mech. hands) point !

    Cheers , Glenn

Can you post some photos of this mod to the brake i can't picture what your saying.

Does anyone know where i can getta hold of some 300cc foot rests?

  6. Thanks LH.

After some thought i've decided to buy a new oko carb. I've been told 'the source coil' needs replacing because when the bike gets hot it cuts out with no spark. Only after it cooled down did start up again. I had a nice chat with a very knowledgeable guy who supplies Fantic bits (nice chap) and the other parts i'm now considering replacing are the: dansi coil, exhaust muffler - wes is restrictive, fit 300c footrests, 0.5mm head gasket. I have been pointed in the direction of Bill Pye 01642 722378 but he's not answering his phone. Does anyone know if Bill is at the SSDT or not open for business today? At a later date i may replace the top yoke......does anyone have a picture showing the Source Coil on the stator plate just so i know what i'm looking at.

    Thanks again.

PS: never been this involved in working on a trials bike but am beginning to enjoy it.

  7. Thanks. The slide does have the o-ring and the air filter is clean. I'm running the bike on 50:1.

This bikes got cater. The fuel tap has now decided to stop leaking! I rode down a short alley to see how the bike revs. Iniationally low to midrange revs were okay, but when i gave it the beans it held back. I done this a couple of times with the same result. parking the bike in my garage i decided to see if it would rev out, so on went the ear defenders and full throttle applied. The bike again held back at top revs. Keeping the bike running the idling speed increased, so i had to wind out the idle screw and lumpy running low down disappeared - weird. When i reved the bike and let its revs drop to tick over the bike seems to hunt/chase it revs and takes some time to settle into idling. To me this seems to be an air leak? I'm also wondering if the electrics are up to much good stopping it reving out? Its got a Dansi (?) coil. The stator plate i can't see any manfacturers marks and the chances are its all orginal. The spark is not that strong but its working. So perhaps a new carb an intake rubber I just want to be certain this will sort the running problems before i commit to spending.

  8. Hi Spud,

std jets are 45 and 98 main (you sure the 44 was main not pilot?) A std 240 will run better on 44 and 95 if you are not running long road sections. If so then go to 98 as std. The expansion chamber has fibre glass packing which will be all gued up after so many years so go down slightly on jets. Cleaning it with caustic soda might help you...it didnt me. You can try playing with the ignition but it doesnt seam to make a lot of difference. Power delivery with motoplat is softer than dansi. The french guy, fantic club president chris darras says to add a head gasket to soften with dansi. i left mine alone.

Some interesting spares...kickstart spring which means engine split and oil seals for the crank = dito

@bilco. Sun Inn is on for me. You can tell me about the spain trial there. I have a fiver on each days points and another 10er on the total results......should pay towards either your or my beer....

Your right I was looking at the main pilot jet and got a little mixed up. The jetting is standard. I inspected the timing after removing the flywheel and all is good. The seal on the choke is perished and the throttle slide has some scoring around the bottom of the slide. I cleaned the carb and reassembled it. I set the air screw to 2 and a quarter turns out. After the iniational warming up the bike would not idle, well not until the idle screw had been turned in nearly all the way. When the bike was ticking over i noticed when i blipped the throttle it would take about 3 seconds for the engine to settle to idling. As a don't know what this bike should run like does this sound okay? If the carb is worn out does anyone have a replacement and a price? The Intake rubber from the carb to the engine looks in good order as too does the hose from the air box to the carb. The previous owner mentioned it didn't have much power and had problems driving up longish hills. This does not ring true from my observations of twinshock Fantics. My next port of call will be to inspect the exhaust for carbon build up. The engine does sound nice i've not ridden the bike as of yet. I noticed the front sprocket has 11 teeth but my spare set has 12 so the down of power theory could be correct.

  9. I took the carb off and noticed the main jet was 44 (not 95) i'm definately thinking the ignition has been retarded. Bike will have the flywheel taken off tomorrow. I also made some enquiries and found out the engine had

  10. Thanks.

When i bought the bike i was given a box with some bits in it. Just had a look in the box and below is what is there, not a lot. I'm interested in your thoughts on the hand drawn diagram of the ignition. I think looking at the parts the carb has had a smaller main jet and the ignition retarded. Looking at the parts picture does anyone know what all the washer and nit bits are for. The paper work picture is minus the Bill Of Sale. It was bought from someone in Wiltshire for

  11. Thanks for your entire info guy's you are genuine enthusiasts. The worlds best mechanic I am not my tool box does contain other tools than a hammer and bolt cutters: :o . I'm genuinely looking forward to casting a more detailed eye over this bike and will be posting my findings, together with some pictures as the spanners get to work. Your advice will be my bible. On the 25th May the bike will be ridden in the Forest Trophy Trial, this will be possible its first trial in over 10years. There is a lot to do. I

  12. And Greeves ; Just what do you mean by enlarge the the center hole ? What center hole ?

    Thanks , Glenn

I'm interested to know as well.

Does anyone know how i can fit a set of fat bars and who is the best person to talk with when buying. I'm also interested in new set of footrests and hangers because what i'm looking to acheive is a similar Handbar-to-Footpeg height as a Beta Rev3. If anyone knows the answer i'm very interested as i'm due to buy a Fantic 240 tomorrow.

  13. WIth a bit of luck, might have me hands on a trusty Fantic 240 :barf: The thing is, can I remember how to ride it

Yes I am considering letting you ride my unpurchased Fantic 240, but only if you agree to replace any broken parts.

.....don't hear many offers like these on TC, but hey i'm such a nice guy. :D

  14. Does anyone know what kind of comparisons can be made between the Fantic and say a Beta Rev 3 or Gas Gas pro to the following. And then what improvements can be made to the Fantic to make it feel more modern with out breaking the piggy bank?

    1) Brakes

    2) Power

    3) Weight

    4) Suspension

    5) Riding postion

  16. There you go Dabster, get entered up & then you too can be AA's hero.

Seems more people are noticing the friction between AA and ND posts. The friction is 'definately' getting worse and whats more the stirring on here by others does add fuel to the fire. R2W (you idea heath) suggested a sidecar trial but the problem with this is AA may punch ND before the bikes started. Does anyone know if ND has a bike? AA, if you wanna ride a trial against ND you can borrow me Beta..... remember the forest trial and how i was a little OTT with yu, just think of all the fun you could have on here if you won- if you lost i'm not to blame thou.

Just to say I'm not biased to AA before anyone says so from the ND camp! AA has a gift of being polite but very insulting to ND, which does make me smile keep up the good work who ever is the winner.

  17. Well said K, consistency wins championships, Pat has been very consistent in his rides, the three time penalties that cost him the first round may have been well planned by his compitition, all it takes is the lad who won it to ask his countryman [Raga] to hold Pat up a bit to secure first place.

Ishy, i find this very hard to believe with out any facts.

  18. What is the basis of your assumption for that calculation?

    clicky: Low Emission Zone

All the info is available on the site if you have a van then type in your registration number to see if you'll be charged. Because my van does not meet the Euro 3 emission standard I will need to sell it before 2010.

Info on the Low Emission Zone:

    1) From 4 February 2008, a standard of Euro III for particulate matter (PM) for lorries over 12 tonnes (daily charge

  19. Don't bite me head off AA but wasn't the trial a touch wet at times and Ross is the man in these conditions, sorry mate. Alexz was under a lot of pressure, so ND, Alexz rode a winner and this is what counts!!!

Pressure for Ross and Sam is now on a better resultat Bangor with a 1,2,3 would be tops, speculation anyone?

    Speculation:

Who's going to be World Champion after Bou in say 2-3years time?

Can Browny beat Frexia this year?

Will Dabill break into the top 5?

  20. i found my 4rt was no good in the mud i tried for 9months but couldn't get it to work. riders who have gone from modern 2t's to any 4t slid down the leader board in all classes in my centre. its a god send when someone i can't beat buys a 4t cos i will beat them on my beta 2t.

i've own the sy250 and agree with all comments they are grippy in the mud. the reason for why i think they are grippy is the way the power is delivered. unlike a sherco 2t or gasser 2t these bikes spin easily, whereas the scorpa and the beta are more similar with engine power. the scorpa in my opinion being slightly better in the mud but its the 2002 - 2006 bikes which are the best. i've ridden an 07 and its got less grip than my 07 beta in the mud. the best answer is to buy a 125cc or 200cc 2t they don't spin because they've not got the power. in the case in sticky mud bike power to push the gears is what works, which brings me back the the sy250 and beta 250 2t. for nadgery wet sections a 125 or 200cc with a 12 stone rider. for deep sticky mud a sy250 or beta 250 for a 12 stone rider..... and none of the top south eastern elite riders ride 4t's.

4ts are good on rocks if i lived in a centre with rocks i'd buy another 4rt. the beta 4t doesn't look like its got much top end power i'm not sure why but they do struggle on flat out hills. the 05 sherco's are smooth, the 08 sherco's are fierce and the scorpa..... dunno looks nice i guess.
