  1. Hi, you might try contacting the folk in the New England Trials Club. I am sure they would be happy to welcome you to an event, ride, join, etc. Here is the link to their page. Welcome to a great sport of friendly people. http://www.newenglandtrials.org/ Best Regards Anthony Puget Sound Trialers
  2. Wilsoff: I would follow the advice of Billy T on carb set up for the Mukuni and the Beta in particular. I also sort of agree with Neonsurge that rocking the bike when cold might help. When I got my first Beta in 1999, Ishy showed me the correct way to start a cold bike and I swear it works. First turn on fuel, set choke on, put bike in 3rd or 4th gear, with clutch in, roll bike back and forth breaking the clutch plates loose (getting oil in them)and also pumping a little bit of fuel into cylinder, once you can roll, rock bike back and forth easily, give er a kick and I would be surprised if it doesn't fire on first or second kick. Just took out my Rev3 after 5 weeks and fired on second kick. Good luck and let us know how you make out. Anthony
  3. Techno, some of the early Beta's had a problem with the gear on the starter shaft riding up an splitting the case. This was usually associated with a backfire which caused the motor to reverse and the gear to ride up. Part of the problem was traced to electronics and water getting into the system. Although many folks will say that the problem was licked by 1998, I did have the same problem on a 99 Techno 250. If you decide to fix you will need to replace both the cases since they are a matched set. Good luck and hope it goes well. Rgds Tony
  4. Hi Simonty: I cant remember which forks the 97 techno came with but I think they are Paioli... Ryan Young has a section on fork seal replacement for the Sherco with Paioli forks that might be helpful to you, here is the link http://www.shercousa.com/pdfs/sherco_fork_...placement-1.pdf You might want to confim the oil capacity for the Beta since I am sure the amounts are different than the Sherco, my 2004 Rev3 takes 370cc in the right and 350cc in the left. If your seals are leaking just a small amount you might try tearing off about an 5-6 cm of 35mmm film, carefully inserting the film between the fork and the seal and going around the seal to clear any dirt that could be causing the leak. Sometimes that is all the problem is and not necessary to change out seals. Good luck T

    Ssdt Team Usa

Congrats, Dennis, Kary & Otis, well done lads, all of us in the PNW were watching and cheering you on... Looking forward to hearing the stories, fables and lies when you return.
  6. Stu Aren't you suppose to miss the skid plate on the rocks, tire to rock....and so on. Just kidding. However, I have seen skid plate so whacked that once it came off there was no way to get it back on, even with the help of a hydralic jack and clamps. If only we could be as smooth as Kuroyama, tire to rock... So how is the riding in HKG? Have not made to HKG/S. China in sometime, really miss the Bushmills and pints at Mad Dogs... Cheers Tony
  7. Blacky, I agree with Stu on this one. I would check the bolt under the rubber pad located between the skid plate and the bottom of the engine case. It is a hidden bolt and you cannot see from the eye without removing the skid plate and rubber pad. I have seen this be the cause of the oil leak, usually works loose. Check with KDMOTO Trials in Australia, they used to have the torque specs posted. Be careful not to over tighten. Let us know what it was.

    Cut Out Switch.

Bob, I use the RIP CORD on my 04 Rev3 and I know others that do the same. Very good idea, cause sometimes you just cant get your fingers on the clutch fast enough. I mounted the type they use on Wave Runners, Jet Skies, works really good. Just wrap around the wrist, ride to the section, pop off the bike (kills), alk the section, pick the right line of course, and get on the scooter and have a go at it. Be sure an mount on the throttle (right side). If ya crash or bugger it up, then Bobs your uncle and no worrys.... good post...

    98 Carb

I have copied the post in the Mechanics Section from Billy T on how to adjust your Mukuni on the Beta: Re-posted for future use; thank you Billy and RonM! Mikuni Carb Setup By Billy T After receiving my 02 Beta Rev 3 I am very pleased with the bike. I am getting quite a few recommendations on how to set the bike up and what areas to change or set. One particular area is the carb. I have heard many statements regarding the float level and how to set it up. This setting of the
  10. Jay, great post and pic of the great ones from the past. Of course Beta Boy doesn't know of the Fabulous Fury Freak Bros but I recall that they really didn't care what they were wearing when kicking everyone else's butts, you are so right about self confidence...on the other hand I keep thinking about Billy Crystal doing Nando " Dont be such a stuke, it's not what you got but how you look! and you look marvelous...." And speaking of spandex, have not seen you sporting that one piece lately? hum
  11. Congrats on the new bike. Purchasing from Ron was a good move, you can be assured that if the bike is used that Ron personally went through it with a fine tooth comb and that it will be dialed. Enjoy
  12. Ishy: Me thinks it is a grand idea, ya know the Indians can do what they want on their land, no forest service or any other agency to restrict the event. Of course that is easy for me to say, I would not be the one doing the event. However, if you ever decide to do another, just let me know and I will make the trip down from Seattle for a couple a weekends to help out. Thanks for your effort last weekend at the PNTA points event, so sorry we did not have a better turnout. The sections rocked and the loop kicked your butt, found meself huffin and a puffin many times, and I dont even smoke. Cheers to you, Brian and the others for making it happen. Tony

    2001 Rev 3

Terry I ride a 01 Rev3 and I have been quite happy with it and will be trading up to an 04 this fall. I did encounter an air box failure that was probably my own fault and not that of Beta. As a result I went through the engine this last winter and it is an all new and powerful machine that always will start on the first kick no matter how long it sits between rides. There was a fork spring correction that Beta did on some of the early 01 production models that replaced the spring in the fork, seems the original spring would bottom out on some. This bike turns great, has awesome power and is very durable, a perfect bike for those that only want to maintain their equipment rather than fix it. Good luck in your search and I think you will be happy with a Beta.

    Exhaust Isolator

ClarkP: A few of us lads in the PNTA have had similar problems with the mid mount failure. Seems that the inner frame will bend and mis-align as a result of hard impact to the top of the seat area, picking bike up by exhaust and many more reasons. Some if us have made the trip to the hardware store and purchased a 5mm (?) bolt, rubber spacer, couple flat washers and a lock washer and have not had any problems since. Good luck you, ya know it could be worse, you could own a GG Pro...
  15. Not worry mate. Splitting the cases is not as bad as it might seem. Ya dont need a 10 ton press but ya will need an impact driver to get the flywheel off, suggest if you attempt to split the case that you look for the Aussie trials web page that has a breakdown of the engine, very helpful when putting it back together. As for main bearing removal and replacement try this method (I just did it and worked great), pre-heat the oven in the house to 93C/200F, after you remove seals, set cases in over for about 10 mins, take out and turn over and bearing will fall out or pop out with easy tap, be careful to not damage cases. Same goes for new bearings, put new bearing in freezer for 15-25 mins, cases in oven and bearings will drop right in, no need for press. Also make sure you mark the position of the stator before removal, will make easier to put back together. You might need a third hand when putting cases back together, especially with the trans shafts. Also when taking apart make sure you have a few plastic wire ties handy, when removing the gears wire tie everything back together in the order of removal, this way parts/pieces dont get mixed up and reversed. Good luck and remember to take your time and have fun.
