Has any one made a clutch spring compressor tool for the pin style clutches? I would love to get the dimension and make one up. It is really difficult to push in springs and pull the tiny pins with the motor in the frame. PS Going to look at a Montesa Cota 348 tomorrow. Any tips or part sources in Canada/ USA? Thanks Sunny

Got the new seals and 20 w oil and rebuild the forks.... a bit of trouble getting the guts back together on one of them. They still seem soft and I can full depress and oil squirts out of the vent on the fork caps. What I am I doing wrong? Sunny

I have the Haynes parts diagram but it looks a bit different than what I found when i stripped the forks down. I found two seperate seals with metal rings in each fork leg (4 total). Should there be 2 per fork? It also had no retaining ring or circlip or a groove for one? The seals I have found locally at bearing shop have no metal ring. should it? Or just rubber? The forks were very soft and I could compress easily and it did have some oil on the forks will new seals solve the softness? What weight oil should I use? I weight 250 lbs. I will be just riding trails and gravel roads etc.. Thanks for the help. Sunny

I bought a book at the Flea Market held every Sunday all Summer it was a 1st edition Don Smith's "Ride It" ($1 CAN) and mentioned to seller that I had two old Bultaco's. He replied by saying that he had a few Bultacos in the past and might have some more "stuff". I told him I would be very interested in buying it. I have bought a lot from this seller over the last few months. His father was a Snap on and Hazet Dealer and he has some cool stickers, badges, and dealer stuff. This past weekend he presents me with a pastic bag and the contents included an old jersey a bit too small for me, Tie clip, and what I think might be a lapel buttton or cuff link. I think I over paid for the stuff ($30 CAN) ... I think my excitement showed through too much. But I have gotten really good deals on other days from him. Sunny

I have an 159 that I have been getting going. My tank looks different than yours (petcock connection). I was wondering what you did to make up the seat? Mine was missing the seat when I got the bike in a box. A member here was very awesome and sent me a seat for the cost of postage. But before that I thinking how I could make one. How did you do it? The trouble I am having is going from neutral in to gear.. it grinds. It will shift in to neutral ok and idle with the clutch lever pulled in.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I will give it one more try the recommended setup process. I think the rod might be the source I will have to check with the suppliers

I have a question that I am sure one of you could answer. I purchused a basket case Bultaco M159 a while back and have since got it going with all of your collective help. The only trouble has been adjusting the clutch I have tried every possible adjustment and I can not get the clutch to 100% completely disengage (almost but not quite). It has the ball, mushroom and the bearing installed and when in gear runs well and does not slip but is difficult to shift without grinding. The clutch basket is the "pin style" which might be incorrect but it was the only one in the pile of parts. Is it possible the clutch rod was from the Matador that was part of the package and would not push the clutch far enough away to disengage? My basic question I guess is how long should the rod be for an m159?

I am a pretty big guy about 240 lbs. and I the ones on the bike are dead. I sit down and they full compress to the point of the fender almost touching the tire. I did email and the price quoted was $75 CAN. I do not see myself as doing anything more than trail riding and putting around. SUNNY

I wanted to replace the fork oil but the allen bolt that drains the oil out on both forks just spins can not loosen or tighten, I did go ahead and add some fork oil because it appeared empty and it almost immediately started to drip from the bolt. Why? and How? do I fix. I am also having a difficult time setting up the clutch pressure point using the adjustment screw and jam nut. Any tips beyond the manuals. It works but just barely difficult to engage and grabs quickly. I did have it set up so I could use the clutch lever to disengage the gear box but it then would not kick over ( did not catch) Sunny

I did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I slowed down and changed one thing at a time. It was the float level. It took a few resets of it but it works. I put the chain on and "rode" it a few feet. The clutch needs to be set up better and chain tensioner is not working well. But I did it and I am very satisfied at the moment. I took it from literally a few boxes of bits and pieces to something that works. Thanks for all the advice along the way and now I can concentrate on the details. Sunny

I am having trouble starting my bike after taking it from a few boxes of parts to something that resemblies a Bultaco. I think I have kicked it over 1000+times praying each time but no luck. Here are some of the things I have tried and their results. FYI. It did start right away after I got it all together and it ran for 1 minute before it ran out of gas. It has new rings Cleaned all jets (2) with carb cleaner and compressed air - NO START It was over flowing the bowl and leaking. I made a new gasket and adjusted float -NO START ( But not overflowing or leaking ) I started to think spark issues maybe - I placed the opened up gap on the plug on the head and there was spark I poured a bit of fuel down the spark plug hole - It STARTED but stopped when the fuel ran out I guess that I have narrowed it to a fuel problem. When I take the bowl off the fuel pours out and if I press up on the float the fuel stops. My guess is that I have bad float or that there is some problem with the fuel moving from the bowl up. I would appreciate any suggestions I will take some photos/video Sunny

They are seperate pieces made of flat bar steel and slip under the edges of the air box.

I would be glad to provide the photos but we are going to be away for the Christmas Break. I will get some photos for you. I think you could bend up something simular with out too much trouble. It has been cool around here lately and my workspace is not heated so I have not been turnning many wrenches. Sunny

It took a few tries for me as well. The easiest thing is to create a photobucket account and transfer your photos there and then copy the url of the photo (right click copy and then right click paste into your reply) you do not have to add anything to the url you copy from photobucket. You can then create a slide show on photobucket and share that with the group. I hope this helps Sunny

I have moved from boxes of bits to what could be called something that resembles a Bultaco m159. I have posted a few before and after photos. I am still struggling to get it running. It started and ran for a few moments but I have not been able to start it since. It has spark but not great and it still has big carb issues. I think I need a rebuild kit for a Bing. Leaking fuel from bowl and out the bottom very quickly (overflow hole). I painted the old fenders with Rustoleum Universal paint for now. I do not hink it will hold up but that new spray paint can they have is awesome to use big fan spray and easily to hold. I still need to order new bars and a new petcock. I stole this one from my M80 to get it started. I have to give a shout out to Bultacosteve for sending me a seat ( I did not have anything but a chunk of foam in the parts I got) He did this for only the cost of shipping.

How about a number from a different country? I live in Canada and have and M80 that would never be registered in the UK. Sunny

I have gotten the M159 mostly back together and tried to get it start up (borrowed petcock off of M80 and fixed the throttle with epoxy and and a sqaure nut to act as a throttle stop). I did start after many kicks!!! But there was fuel everywhere dripping quickly out of the bottom of the carb. I did disassemble and "clean the carb" when I was going through the bike a few months ago but it was pretty clean to start with the photos are from the intial cleaning. What would cause the fuel to drip out?

I bet the PO used filler/bondo on the frame and filled in the stampings. Sunny

I just put my 159 back together and you have it right in your description long rod, ball bearing, mushroom rod, bearing, adjuster/jam nut. Sunny
