Thanks for all the input and advice! Can the flywheel ring be removed without pulling the flywheel? I have removed the 4 bolts and it is not loose. Is a puller needed to remove it?

I never did try the A carb on the C bike as it was not correct for either bike (off a kaw kx80) but did run the C bikes carb on the A and it ran very well, although I was never into it much more than 1/2 throttle. Any reason why Yamaha made the change to a "softer" response motor? The guys at B&J said they used to offer the 300 kit back in the day and some of the older gents from the local club claimed that it was a popular mod and also some used aheavier flywheel from a 500 what model I am not aware.

I can accept that. I had the C model first and thought it ran fine with tons more power that my 175 ever thought of having then came the A which I really like the best of all 3.

I have a ty250a and a ty250c. I am wanting to tune them so the run identical if possible. The problem I have is the "A" has quick throttle response and is very "snappy". The "C" on the other hand seems slow on response and returning to idle or tickover speed. They both have comparable compression readings, same exhaust and silencers, same UNI pod air filters, same crankcase oil. switching the carbs does not change anything. The flywheels appear the same and I understand that the timing is not adjustable. It is possible that the "C" has a old school bigbore 300 kit in it as the heatshield was changed to "trials300" but I have yet to pull the head to confirm this. I have yet to check the reeds yet as well. Also they have the same sprockets and tires, it is even noticable in neutral. the"C" has a quick turn throttle as well. They both have #35 pilot jets. Any Ideas? Thanks!

I have a mikuni carb on my Ty250a that I know is from the previous owner that it is from a Kawasaki. I ha sthe starter or choke on the right side and the air filter inlet size is larger. Is there a model # anywhere on the Mikuni carbs to identify what size carb it is? I believe the venturi size is 26 but not for sure. Thanks!

Check Tony Downs blog. Somewhere in his articles he loses fire on a 175 and it ends up being the points. They come coated with a sealer/coating that must be cleaned off.

Does anyone know if the bushing in the frame where the brake pedal pivots is replaceable? Both of my twinshock 250's are well worn and I do not see it shown on parts diagrams. They are ty250a and ty250c. thanks! Steve

I just picked up a ty250a without a front wheel. Is there other Yamaha year/models of wheel that will fit it? The original was robbed to fit a chinese dirt bike.

Has anyone researched what the bearing and race #s are to upgrade to tapered bearings in the headstock of a ty250? If they are a common size that is available at a auto parts house I would not have to wait on shipping.

Hey Alan! Somewhere on this site is a post that you can download his manual for free! I did it when I got my 175 last year. I have yet to find the same offer for a 250. Have fun with that "baby yam" as Tony calls them!

Hi Alan! hope you enjoy the 175 as much as I do! I have bought a 250 recently and will soon have the same comparisons to do. I agree with Feetupfun on the pegs(stock location, not stock pegs) I am interested in where you place the new relocated ones if you do as I will be doing the same this winter. My concern is that i am only 5'6" 165# and when the traction is good the front becomes very light already and most say to move them back and down. Enjoy!

Hi! I have aquired a Ty250c twinshock that has "Boge Orca 125-317" shocks on it that are in like new condition. I have been searching the web to try to find out if these were actually for a trials or enduro or whether they are for a vintage road bike. Boge was sold out to Af Sachs and I cannot get any reply from them. I need to find an old catalog from the 70's for references. Any ideas? Thanks!

Does anyone know of a vendor that sells a lower mudguard replacement for the ty250 twinshock? The airbox/mudguard assembly has been removed from mine to use a pod filter and just has a old mx fender pieced in. it works but is pretty crappy looking.

How did this work out Alan? I have a ty250c that I just aquried and there is very little dampening as the front bottoms out easily. I will start by changing the fork oil. How much does each leg hold? and what weight fork oil do you use? I weigh 160# also. Thanks! Steve

The frame and engine numbers match and the jug has the 246cc stamp. I was wondering if they had a big bore kit.
