December 23, 200619 yr Great info for the SSDT, particularly liked this little gem The Mikuni carb is designed to let out the excess petrol Looks like someone has actually spent time in making sure it does leak properly, did a ******* good job, well done no carb issues there then
December 23, 200619 yr Also... 1) The chain tensioner arm has a spring that fits round a lug on the inside of the swingarm. Fit a cable tie to trap the spring in place. 2) Spare wheel isn't essential but very handy to have. 3) A lockable tool box that you can chain up to the parc ferme fence is a good idea if you don't have 'support' people helping out each morning. You will need WD40, chain lube, rags, long screwdriver for poking lumps of mud out of nooks and crannies and a stiff brush. Also double up on all your backpack tools so that you don't have to worry about repacking it in a rush. 4) Unwind the knurled washer on the front tube valve, you can then see if the tube moves inside the wheel which is better than having the valve rip away. 5) Pop the wheel bearing seals and pack with marine grease. 6) Lock wire the handlebar grips on. I offered to do this for Ishy in 2004, he said "No" but regretted it later that week 7) Shorten the fuel line to make sure it isn't touching the barrel.
December 23, 200619 yr Interesting list - most seems to be common sense but the comment about a carb being designed to leak fuel is worrying! Good luck in the SSDT Mr B!
December 23, 200619 yr Would have thought the Montesa prep. list will be the same minus the carb stuff. The carb. bit made me laugh!
December 24, 200619 yr Hmm, I'll wait for the Montesa SSDT prep' list to appear SSDT Montesa prep list, make sure it's full of petrol, then go for a
December 24, 200619 yr montesa preplist is ok dont forget montesa rider preplist, spend 6 monts in gym building up arms in case you drop it during the week and theres no one to help you pick it up. Great on the road but so's a harley ! joking aside crankcase gaurd so the chain doesnt crack the crankcase and thats probably it
December 24, 200619 yr Hmm, out of the 7 tips above - 5 of them relate to any bike/rider at the SSDT...
