Week 151 - Riders Revolt Hits Indoor Series

Gone are the days when we used to look forward to indoor events such as the infamous Paris Bercy trial, in those days the winner was the rider that dropped the least number of marks in the sections which lets be honest is what 'trials ' is supposed to be about, watching the Eurosport coverage of Sheffield this year I couldn't make head nor tail about what was going on , the sections seemed to take second place to the races and the stopwatch .......its all gone wrong

Its 10 then 8 then 6 then 4 then podium, based mainly on observation unless tie breaks are needed. Simple really.

And as for the races, the result needs to be more clear cut, is it back wheel down or front, or is it front against the railings, or is it an imaginary line.... seemed to be which rider thought he won or cheered the most...

At first they announced that it was first rider with both wheels down on the platform, but a few races in, it was clear that there were some flashing lights going on and (may have been Dibs) one rider landed first but lost.

There was an electronic device across the top of the platform, fairly near the railings, and whichever rider crossed it first set off the flashing light on his side of the platform.

Probably a fairer way of doing it, and did seem to work, we just didn't realise how it worked at first.

The blokes on the ground (Willoughby/Collins/Saunders) (sorry if there were others) managed pretty well with what looked like a nightmare to organise and keep it all together, but yep they would have been helped by a few things like a working scoreboard. The big screen was working - surely something could be set up on there.

Well hopefully there was enough people there to make it financially viable. Gonna have to go back next year to see Danny Mac

At this level you really do need a tie-break, it's all too easy for two or more riders to finish on the same marks.

We see this in trials with 40 sections, so it would easily happen at an indoor event. Realistically the tie break has to be timed so as to provide a definative winner, but the series of races and knock outs that we were presented with on Saturday were unnecessary and confusing.

I for one hope that the format will return to the winner being the rider with the least marks lost and only in the event of a draw will the timed section/race decide the winner.

You really have got to be keen to try and read to the end of those rules - once again I've failed to get there.

Why don't they all just ride all the sections once, then the top x riders with the lowest scores go though to the final. They all ride the sections again in reverse and the one with the lowest score wins. Oh hang on, hasn't that been tried before - I think it was called trials.

What this load of B*****ks is called is anyone's guess
