As an observer at a recent trial I had an unusual situation come up and I would like some opinion on how you would score this. A master rider launched over an obstacle to exit the section; his front axle was out of the section when he stopped and put a foot down outside the section, but his back tire broke the red tape because of where the bike landed.

He had cleaned the section so I scored him a zero - should it have been a five?

I'd would have called it a "0" like you. Once the front axle is out, the ride is over...or at least that's what I always thought.

Totally aggree with JTT. Its the front axle that counts.

Anything that happens to the section after the front axle is out has nothing to do with the score for the ride. I would have given the clean.

i was told years ago that the front wheel starts and finish's the section, so on that basis i would have given the rider a clean.

If the front axle was out of the section before the tape broke then it's a clean.

If the tape broke at the exact same moment the front axle crossed the end gate (on or off the ground) it's an unfair five

I would have given the rider clean, but only after he had tied red tape as it was...

That would be clean by all the different sets of rules I've ever ridden under. Front axel had broken the plane of the end gate before the rest happened.
