Fan Bypass

Featured Replies

Hi chaps I've just got a Sherco and the fan has been wired on a switch and by passed from the thermostat I am wanting to put the bike back to normal so does anyone have a clue as what wires will go were if a disconnect the switch

At the same time I would Also like to have a switch on incase the thermostat plays up

Any suggestions??

The two wires from the switch go to the thermostat. It should not have been wired to a switch in the first place, just hard wired on.

Yes,the the thermostat is just a heat activated switch, which effectively joins 2 wires together above a certain temperature

You say you still want to use a switch if you find the thermostate fails, well you simply wire it in parallel with the thermostate. Imagine a ladder with the rungs being the thermostate and the switch with the wiring connecting like the side rails.

I remember a guy that was riding a demo had a switch. In the excitement of the moment he forgot to turn it on. The little steam explosion was entertaining for the crowd, but not for the rider.

So basically wire it up normal then just put a bridge back between the two wires with a switch in the middle ??

Yes that sounds right, hope nothing gets lost in translation here !

This means you can either let the thermostate operate automatically or over ride it with the switch both options will work.

I am gonna but id like to be sure the fan can come on

After having my thermostat fail during a trial, nearly boiling my bike and not being able to finish, I now carry a small link wire (6mm male spade each end if I remember right) that can now be quickly used to link out the thermostat and make the fan run all the time. I also run the bike up to temp and watch for the fan cutting in after each wash off and carb clean.
