Thanks all, I suspect I've a Montesa/Honda bias because of past bike ownership but nothing relevant to a modern ish trials bike. I think I'm going to take the general advice of all of the above and look for a decent bike locally hopefully through a club member etc and keep some cash back for bearings etc.

Cheers

Graham

BETA REV 3  125/250CC YEAR 2006 /7 OR 8

A bit of update, I spent a few months getting the 1972 Montesa Cota 247 running and did a few white route club trials and practices. Big and heavy but great when running well. Now needs a bottom end rebuild and cosmetics for the rest of the bike, so I breathed and bought a Beta Rev3 250, it's a 2008 model. Obviously the difference in bikes is amazing and my riding has improved a bit! Thanks all for the advice and to Oni Nou who suggested a Beta

I would suggest a properly sorted and running well 315 almost as good as most 2008 bikes.

Or even a good TYZ

I am enjoying riding mine more than the 2004 new 315 I had, back in the day
