I wouldn't have thought it was the stator going James, I've heard they either work or they don't work.....take the carb off and clean it out, change the plug and the plug cap before you go pulling the flywheel off.

and hes a tight *** so he wont stock 1

i will give the carb a clean i have tried a differnt plug and the carb was cleaned before i took it out(this is the first time i took it out) i have only had the bike for about 5 weeks.

but i will double check by giving the carb another clean

if its still like it after ive clean the carb again etc etc

ill have to pull the flywheel :D

does anyone know the standard carb settings for an 02 rev3 so i can check all that.

would anyone be kind enough to lend me a puller to see if the key has sheared :P

Lots of knowlegable advice here already but I'll echo r2w's suggestion of a broken flywheel (woodruff) key. Unless the carb is completely gooped it's unlikely to cause a severe misfire. Could be electrical (check all wiring for breaks/shorts etc. and swap the plug) but check the key first 'cos it's easy.
