Got a gas gas txt 300 gp 2020 not many hours on it .I'm really not sure the gearbox is right from day one it feel like it has loads more gears when trying to find neutral when bikes off and the kick start got stuck today and it was Rock solid .like its jammed teeth any info please

It's possible that the gear lever has hit a rock at some stage and damaged the selector spring collar, a "top hat" as it is known by. If so, then it would be difficult to select gears correctly. The top hat can be replaced, complete with spring if this is the case, an easy repair. BVM should have these in stock.

The kickstart mechanism consists of a geared 5 tooth quadrant the rotates along the kickstart shaft to engage with an idler gear to start the engine. If you are not used to starting a GG it's possible to damage the quadrant gear teeth, and/or idler gear where pieces of gear teeth can chip off. Best to have a look there. Another possibility is that the kickstart gears have simply become jammed and maybe if you put the bike in gear and rock the motor backwards and forwards then this may free up the kickstart. I would still take a look there anyway. Don't loose the washer between the kickstart shaft and the clutch case when you remove this. Tip the bike on it's side, leave the water pump connected up, no need to drain the coolant. Let's know what you find. Bye, Peter B.

Ok thanks m8 .what's the knack of kick starting these gas gas  never had one before coming from a montesa 4rt .previous betas thanks

Gotta kick it from the very top too. If you depress the KS a few inches and kick from there, most likely it won't start. Unless you're tall this can be rather tricky with your left foot on the ground

Investigate the locked up kickstart first, check the top hat for gear change.  Top Hat has a break away bar in it to protect the other bits of the shifting mechanism.  (photos below)

Starting procedure: have bike on a stand/leaning on something.  get on the pegs, set foot on kickstart, slowly lower kickstart until slack is taken up and kickstart engages.  at this point kick downwards with smooth authoritative force.

DO NOT "stab" at the kickstart this could cause the quadrant and idle gears to chip.  if a piece gets lodged between the two gears, it could (most often does) push the two gears apart placing stress on the clutch cover and breaking the clutch cover at the kickstart shaft.

Top Hat highlighted; notice the cross bar.  If the bar is broken it will be rotated inside the bore of the top hat. the ends of the bar will remain in place in the wall of the top hat.

Google searched this photo, source says Trials Central - Added text - Clutch basket has been removed - there should be a hollow allen head bolt in the center of the clutch basket.  4mm I think, not positive

The allen bolt, to the top right of the top hat, in the photo has a cammed adjuster, used for fine tuning gear selection. I'm sorry, but I can't remember which way to turn it for the different gear selection problems. Maybe someone else can provide info on this.
