Maybe because of the distances involved it makes more sense, or maybe Canadian trials events are all-day affairs whereas the Europeans compete and then go home?

Maybe we just have better dealer support 😎

Why would anyone buy things at events when we can walk into any motorbike shop and get what we want?

If I want to go to an off-road bike specialist for something really specific I have a choice of 3 within 30 minutes of my house, whereas if I want to go to a trials specialist it's a long drive (45 mins).

You must live on an island.  Any motorbike shop in Canada buys you nothing when you are shopping for trials bikes and parts 😆 & we obviously live in completely different parts of the planet where distance has a completely different meaning.  30 minutes drive for me is a trip to the dump or the nearest gas station and my trials bike importer has a showroom I have never seen because it's 4500 Km and 40+ hours drive away.  So ya, my dealer that lives 4 hours away and sells out of his truck at events is by far my best option.

tell your dealer to open an online site that I also buy from him

I live in Catalunya, less than 2 hours from the factories of Gasgas, Sherco trials, Montesa, and the old Bultaco place.  That being said, when I lived in the UK I ordered all my parts online cheaply and there weren't any motorbike shops that would sell off-road stuff nearby (because the whole of England has about 50 meters of green lane open for motorbikes) and the suppliers still didn't show up to any of the trials events I went to there, lol

Anyway, getting back to the point, my experience is likely to be closer to what Dede80 has available because he's in Italy

but there near the factories no one sells cheap online?

That's easy; No, nobody sells specialized competition trials motorcycle parts 'cheap', online or otherwise, all the trials stuff is outrageous expensive with shipping, taxes and material costs escalating out of control.  To get motorcycle parts out of a factory 'cheap' somebody would need to be thieving them.

Thanks to the EU the prices are the same regardless of where you live, the only difference is the cost of shipping.  Ironically, some parts for Spanish bikes used to be a bit cheaper in the UK but now Brexit has broken that.

I love your optimism!  If you find any, please let us know :)

Splat shop uk is the way to go.

Unfortunately since Brexit importing anything from the UK is a massive headache, the last two things I tried to get just didn't turn up and I've given up on getting anything from Britain for the forseeable.

LOL.  We've given up trying to export anything at work as well.  Its all going so well ☺️

Also note that you will have to pay import duty to the carrier if you manage to get stuff shipped out to you.  I sent a front door key to my estate agent in France and had to fill in an invoice - I declared the key as made in France (true) and its value at £1.00.  It cost 12 quid to ship (UPS) and the agent had to pay €12 to release it from customs.  All for a Yale key.  (I dare not post it in case it got lost).

We've stopped sending christmas and birthday gifts to a relative in Ireland for the same reason.

Biometric passports/visas next year and the Port of Dover is building new facilities to deal with the queues.  Should be fun.

I know this is not trials related but we have experienced the same sending stuff to relatives in Europe costing them to receive it, embarrassing. rant over.........
