General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

  1. Started by neo,

I was reading an MX mag the other day...while waiting for some new tyres to be fitted to my car. There was an article in this mag about which type of engine will be used in motorbikes in the future. I know in Trials most people have pretty much concluded that 2T makes sense but after debating all the in's and outs's the guy in the MX mag put his bets on 4T for MX. What's your opinion on this? Best of balance. Neo

While I was reading through my old books on trials, I came across the name of "Jacky Ickx" as one of the top world class trials riders in 1964 and 1965 (8th and 4th respectively in the 1964 and 1965 Henri Goutars Challenge). I wondered if it was the same Jacky Ickx that I watched on TV in Formula 1 and Lemans when I was a kid. A quick check of the web confirmed that it was indeed the same Jacky Ickx. So, I added yet one more name to my mental list of people in other avenues of motor sports who had at one point been involved in observed trials. Off the top of my head, the list now includes Jacky Ickx, Roger DeCoster, Jeff Ward, Juha Salminen, David Knight, and Brian My…

Hi all. Maybe i have completely lost it but what i would like to do is some fairly long runs on the Beta rev3 270 i have just purchased. I have located a suitable seat but they are in USA so postage to pay, but want to put a storage tank maybe onto front yokes & maybe hold say up to a gallon of fuel. I have done a lot of trail riding on my xr250 & KDX220 which are now parted with. A lot of the trails we did were up some pretty nasty inclines & down. I always said to the gang i rode with we were on the wrong type of bikes. So i,m going to do some of the runs on the beta. But more comfortably than sitting on the mudguard & adding fuel capacity. My question i…

Please forgive me if this has been covered before, I searched but couldn't find anything. My lad loved building the paper GasGas cut-out model posted on here a while ago, and is nagging me to track down plastic kits of Trials Bikes. I've googled for ages and trawled the Airfix website but found nothing. Anyone come across anything ? I'd appreciate any pointers, thanks.

As I get older I think I worry more..I've had a few silly, little get-offs recently. I think kharma may have something in store for me in the near future. I'm not saying that a bar plug on this guy's *R2w Find * throttle could have helped..but...what do you think about the subject..any experiences?

Back in the past, when all trials were road trials, and we had 40 separate sections, the only time we queued was at the first few sections. After that we were all separated and could just ride straight into the sections. We sometimes waited for our mates to catch us up. Also the observers from the first few sections could man the latter in the day sections as there was time. Nowadays with just ten sections done 4 times, there is always queues... Mathematically, for an event with 100 riders, there will be 10 doing sections, 10 riding between sections. The other 80 will be queuing. an average of 8 per section. A local club just ran an event with 3 laps of 15…

  14. I ride in BC and spend time climbing logging roads even when I'm on a trials bike.... I've been told that 4 strokes are better at not overheating on long climbs, what kind of experiences do you guys have? I used to ride a GG280 and it would overheat after about 5 minutes in 5th, sometimes 1 minute! I really don't want a seat, I love trials bikes! Thanks in advance for any experience you guys can offer.

What’s the general consensus on jet washing? Heard some people say it’s fine and some people say it can push water into places you don’t want water going in such as bearings.

As far as I can see there are 3 options 1) Gas Gas UK Team Stickers 2) S3 3) Jitsie. Mainly concerend with how easy they go on and what quality is like, i.e. how long will they last. Cheers

I have been trying to come up with a simple cost effective, reusable way of marking section and course. The material is corrugated plastic sign sheet and two foot ceiling hanging wire, price per sheet of plastic Is $16 for an 8ft x 4ft sheet and the wires are $9 per 100 bundle, cost in material per marker is app 20 cents each. Sheets and colors can be changed, I used what I had around. Which would you choose of the samples posted ?. Sample one delta with stick on class labels.
