ahhhh..... a maintenance free bike. Oh well, I can dream can't I? My trusty '00 GG 321 TXT is pretty close. There's alot of talk in these forums about having to fix stuff on the newer bikes. Which of the current model bikes do YOU think requires the least mechanical attention?

Can anyone give me an idea about a knocking and pinking problem with my Gas Gas 300 04 model? I

Two age old questions? How could you 5 me? I wasn't stopped with my foot down! How could you 5 me? I didn't roll back with my foot down! We've been dealing with those questions as a club for 30 years. So we're toying with just counting dabs...up to 5. That's pretty cut and dry. He either put it down or he didn't. The arguments are: A rider can be stopped for a long time with a foot down and only get a 1. A rider can roll back multiple times with only one foot down and get more than one shot at an obstacle and only get a 1. Anyone have any experience with only counting dabs?

I see many posts on how do I hop, flick turn, nose turn etc, and many club riders loosing points by hopping and trying to trick ride in a section when just riding through is all that's needed, it's an old saying! but first you have to learn to walk before you can run. I know some like the flick turns etc but even Jordi Tarres, and Doug Lampkin didn't/don't trick ride if it's not needed. Is this what made them the best trials riders of all time, being masters of the conventional style of riding, but able to trick ride when needed? some of today's young Spanish riders are brilliant trick riders but seem to be missing that bit of something to give them consistency. I need to fit some new bearings to my bike in the very near future and to save doing this pain in the ass job on a regular basis would like to fit some grease nipples ..has anyone fitted grease nipples to various parts of their bike to make greasing easier. I`ve got a 98 Techno...so I contacted Lampkins about doing it. They said that doing this "might" put to much stress on the area around the hole and start to crack and they know of nobody else who has tried it has anyone else done this mod and found any problems like cracking or anything similar dont want to cause a bigger problem than I`m curing Regards N

Just wondering how many of you guys train on a bicycle. I was not thinking about a pure trials bike. But some kind of mountian bike that could do doubble duty as a trials trainer as well as something you could ride to get a good workout on. I have usually spent a fair ammount of time in the gym, but over the past year I have had a tough time with injuries from other forms of racing which make the gym more of lesson in frustration than a workout. At any rate I guess what I am asking is if you guys ride a bicycle what kind is it? Thanks

Anybody got tips on the dreaded 'forearm pump'?? (lactic acid, so somebody told me) I've just got back into trails from a long lay off, I'm finding the riding ok except that my forearms pump up really bad after about a lap, sometimes it'll go away after a short rest but today i had it for the whole five laps!. I suppose i should ride/practise more often but the family thing puts the stoppers on that one Any tips to stop this?? MG

I was talking to a buddy about bikes who was complaining about how hard it was to get parts for some of the older machines, I was amazed to discover he'd never heard of Bike Bandit. So I got to wondering if there were others who hadn't. They have full parts schematics and OEM and after market parts for just about any Japanese bike you can imagine. I've been able to get parts for my 85 Sabre, an 85 Honda ATV and my 74 Yamaha TY250. So far I've never found anything they haven't had. You might try them. http://bikebandit.com

Just wanted to make a quick intoduction. I've been lurking here for a while, and finally registered. I've had my 98 TX270 for about a month now, and love it! I live in Florida which I am sure is across the pond from most of ya, but I appreciate the insight I've gained by reading through this forum. I've been riding for about 16 years, and always wanted to ride trials. But untill just a little while ago I had no idea there was anyone even riding in the states let alone Florida. But I sure was wrong. At any rate I will not bore you guys with any more of this...but I just wanted to make an intro. Ross

Just wondering if anybody has tried heated grips on their bikes. I have a hard time riding when the temp gets down to the 30's and below, and it seems that heated grips might provide a solution, or at the very least help a little. Wiring on some of the ones I've seen seems pretty straight forward, and the cost is also reasonable. Just wondering if there's something I might be overlooking as it all seems pretty simple.

Does anyone know why trials bikes are designed with the air intake at such a low level under the seat. Is it not possible for the airbox and fuel tank positions to be reversed so the air intake can be up above the water and mud levels near the headstock. Is it just because in spain and italy where they are made it is not a problem they need to worry about. In the uk water and muck getting in the airbox is probably the main cause of engine wear. Common sense says put the air intake up high but would this affect carburation Mark T

Hi, My beta is a great bike and ive just had a few things spent on it so its in good nick, but the one thing i want now is a bit more power in 1st,2nd,3rd to get up those short sharp climbs, i would like this done without buying expensive stuff.... any solutions cheers chris

Anybody got any tips on identifying the subtleties of poor carburation. I often find that my bike gets a bit out of tune, particularly right off the bottom where the power will not come in smoothly and progeressively from idle. On wider throttle openings I can tell if it's weak and searching for fuel or four stroking and obviously rich, but on the pilot jet I struggle to identify which condition causes this delayed responsiveness. I can spend all day trying to tune this problem out on the mixture screw without ever succeeding. Other people have ridden the bike and do not seem to notice a problem but I know how smooth the thing can run, I just can't keep it in that trim fo…

I Had a great weekend and thought I would pass along a recap. I bought a new bike. That is a pretty rare occurrence for me, and a great deal of thought went into the selection. I thought some of it might be useful to others who are considering a new bike. Since 2001, I have been riding a 2000 GasGas TXT 280, which I inherited from my son. He (we) acquired that bike through a partial sponsorship and then lost interest after one season on the bike. The TXT ( now known as the 'Edition") model was and still is a great bike. I ride in the STRA (southeastern US) region and off the top of my head, I would guess that about 45% of the members ride GasGas. Probably 30% ride Sherco…
