  2. Richmond Motor Club hosted the unique Mintex Trophy Trial, a time and observation trial for youth entrants and very much a taster for the youngsters of the perils of riding in the Scott Trial. Based in the Hurst area, long time well known Scott venue, even crossing Hadrians Wall could not deter Lochaber youngster Duncan MacColl on Sunday! The teenager delivered a king sized double shock to his fifty two rivals in the annual national Mintex Trophy Trial by not only setting the fastest time in the trial but also carefully riding the sections to beat local ace Ryan Brown on observation. Many expected triple Class B national trial winner Daniel Slack to be the pre-eve…

The Eboracum Motor Cycle Club will run an East Yorks Centre Championship Twin Shock Trial on Sunday-June 18 at Coates Hill, Rosedale, starting at 11.00am. The venue is legendary as it was the final section group of the late lamented Colonial Trial and the centre piece was a giant oak tree which was right alongside the final climb. Many great names have leant against the old oak while weighing up a section line. Rod Drake is the man in charge on the day.

Stan Peel is the man who knows every farmer in Nidderdale and Wharfedale. The former rally driver and sporting car trials ace has been involved in the organisation of the trial when it was an Ilkley Motor Club event, before it was transferred to the Airedale & Pennine Motor Club. Barry Robinson was bike C of C when the late Peter Colman ran it for Ilkley Motor Club, and is now the Press Officer. Alan Forest is the owner of the motorcycle engined buggy in which Stan Peel opens the course, through every section enroute. Believe me it flew up Watergate at 08.00 on Sunday morning as if it were tarmac. Stan and John Bell are the driving forces. John is …

Darlington & D.M.C. Trial Howtop, Grinton, Sunday. Darlington & District Motor Club stills draws huge entries to Swaledale for its series of trials.. How many remember the Scott Trial organised by Hilda and Norman Waters? These days they run under the AMCA banner and last Sunday one hundred and twenty two competitors assembled at How Top which is found by starting from the Bridge Inn in Grinton then follow the direction of Leyburn but don’t miss the right turn to Redmire , which takes you past How Top, which feels like the top of the world.
