Thinking about buying a 4RT, just wondering about the maintenance compared to a 2 stroke. Had a look through the 4RT manual on the net and got a bit of a shock. Seems that in addition to fresh oils, spark plug (and cap?) every 6 weeks. Honda recommend new piston rings every 6 months and a new piston every 12. Have riders really found this necessary or is this a hangover from MX motor manuals? 2 major top end strip downs a year seems excessive to me

Hello all, My 4RT is using half engine oil per trial ... fill up at start and after one full day riding its about half empty and needs topping up ?? . How much should it use ? It has not dipped in power delivery and does not smoke, dont have leaks ... does anyone out there know what could be the problem ... or if it is problem ? Thanks for any help

Is automatic tranmission fluid OK for fork oil?

Does anyone know exactly how the 4rt wiring loom works in regards to powering the lights. I know that when the wiring loom is installed it restricts the power output of the bike because of the fuel injection etc, but is it a simple case of the wiring loom and ancillaries needing to much power or is it more complicated like the loom changing the ecu program when plugged in. Thank goodness for this forum, the twits I ride with would rather cut off bits off their anatomy than admitt there could ever be a problem with THEIR bike!! For instance I have ridden the 06 version with the alleged improved clutch (something which from memory was improved as a matter of course every year on the 315 along with the carburation too lets not forget!!!) and cannot feel any discernible difference (it still surges/pulses just like everyone I have ridden), although the plastics/decals do look ever so nice and really deserve a price increase (I am sure you will all agree) compared to the 05. Has anyone got any raptor foot rest hangers fitted to there 4rts ? what are they like, do they make the bike feel an better ? has anyone got raptor foot pegs fitted as my hebo ones keep filling up with crud and i notice raptor ones have no bracing. Are the hangers stronger than the frame as i have just bent my left stock hanger and would hate to think if i fitted raptor ones there would be a chance of bending the frame. any thoughts jsp

Forks are off the bike, damper is out, dust seal is off, and the circlip has been removed, but not sure how to remove the slider and seal. The manual say to pull out sharply on the fork tube to bump the seal out. Tried this a few times, but nothing moved. Should I heat the aluminum lower leg a little and then slide the tube out harder? How do you read the stem head label to determine the build year?

So so much a question, more a confirmation. I've just pulled off all the switchgear and lighting loom from my 315, now I just need to check with someone in the know that the fan circuit is separate from all this. I know I've lost the kill switch for now, no big shakes but losing the fan would be unpleasant to say the least. Ta

I realized the other night that I have had a '98 Montesa. '98 GG and an '01 Beta. The GG and Beta are gone but I still have the Montesa. The other bikes ALWAYS needed something done to them. The GG steering stem broke twice, head gasket(o-ring really) blew and coolant flooded the cylinder, Dog bone linkage bearings failed, gas cap broke, rear wheel bearings failed, air box leaked and fork seals blew. The Beta fork seals blew twice, the foot peg mounting bracket bent, the rear brake caliper mount bent, the carb siphoned all the fuel into the cylider and flooded the crank case, air box leaked, shift lever broke, rear brake caliper started sticking and the exhaust mount brok…

I just purchased a new 4RT Repsol Replica and none of the street lights work. (Head light, Tail light, turn signals, horn, etc.) What do I need to check??? (the dealer did replace the stock ignition with the HRC programmable ignition from the Repsol kit)

Its a shame that Freixa surprise switch from Scorpa to Beta has been overshadowed by my return back to the fold after two years in the wilderness. Viva Montesa.

had a slight problem with my 99 315 yesterday. was riding all day but the bike seemed to be knocking more and more. washed it off and stripped it down to find that the engine is full of sand. lovely. traced the problem back to sandy water that was getting in the airbox. hadn't done any wading (its not a landrover). has anyone out there got any good ideas on making the airbox a tad more watertight as im sure you'll imagine i'm facing a rather large bill now and i dont want it happening again. cheers

has any one fitted boysen reed valves to a 315r? if so what is involed? would you have to do carb mods? can you adjust ignition map in the cdi unit? the tickover seems to be very noisey, sounds like pinking, may just be something vibrating but cannot seem to find anything. any info greatly appreciated

Having searched the forum, I haven't found much mention of valve adjustments. Having owned a Honda CRF 250R, thats all anyone talked about. So on your 4rt how often are you adjusting the valves, and how much out have you been? As for myself, I am due for an adjustment and would like to know what to expect. Regards, Wardo

Just got an '04 315r and I am trying to change the fork seals, since the left leg is weeping. I have the left fork mostly apart, the inner tube assembly is out, but I am not sure if the slider and fork tube should be pulled hard to seperate or there is another step or special tool needed. Also if anyone can let me know what wt. fork oil is used and the volume for each leg, I would be most thankful.

hi, i have recently had the forks seals replaced on my 04 mont. now that i have got them back they seem to be really hard/stiff. could anyone please tell me what is wrong or is tis normal? thanks alot chris
