Montesa

  1. Started by slogger,

I am lucky enough to be picking up a Montesa 348 this weekend as I am moving over from mono's to good of twin shocks. The last Mont I had was a Cota 123 back in the early 80's when I rode school boy... I am hoping owners of 348's can educate me to the normal maintainance routines (eg oil chages, grades etc), frequency, things to keep an eye on or strange quirks. I thought I read somewhere that the gearbox has a separate oil fill to the clutch? its these bits of knowledge that will help..... thanks in advance Rob

Has anyone got any good info in the nine spring 242 clutch, the drawing is a little confusing, the 3mm spacer that sits in the castellated drive that goes into the back of the clutch looks to have another shim on the top of that, mine did not have one when I stripped it

Does the MH 200 (orange) have round fork bottoms or the more square shape. The one I have has round bottoms with no pinch bolt ,but they feel really nice and smooth with no marks on stations.

  13. Hi, I have recently purchased an 81 349 and would like to know if anyone has experience with updating the swingarm to the later 84 349 MK/4 modifications with the shock mounts moved forward and swingarm angled. Also, with lowering the footrests. I have seen photos of 81 349s with these mods done and if anyone could give any dimensions or advice it would be appreciated. I always wanted to have an 81 and always planned to do the swingarm to those factory machine specs. Also, does anyone know if the later MK/4 swingarm would retrofit? I never heard whether or not the width at the pivot is the same for both.

  14. Started by tradedog,

I have a Montesa Cota 311. This is the only trials bike I have ever ridden or even seen. There are no other trials bikes out here in Zimbabwe. I would like to know how this bike compares to modern machines. If I was to ride a modern bike would I be surprised? I find it difficult to keep the front wheel up and bounce/hop the front or rear wheel, but this is probably just me. Any comments would be useful. Thanks
