  1. I got some off RYP and thay are good, just wondered if it was worth it right now, or just when I had a moment cheers Bob
  2. Hi, I have done a search for this but had no success, The front wheel on my rev3 has a little buckle in it ( about 3 mm either way ), The buckle isn't massive though and I realise that if I start to try and straighten it then it could take ages. Is it worth trying to fix or should I just forget about it, will it get worse? The wheel isn't egged so it is straightenable. If I should fix it then any tips? It is terrible when you are cleaning your bike that you keep finding little problems like this isn't it. cheers Bob
  3. mine did that once, but when I started it later it went fine across the yard and then just went bannas with a massive rattle, I am selling it not to a bloke who is gonna restore it. Sould like condensor and coil, a mate of mine had similar symptoms on a TY. They are cheap and easy to change anyway so why nt have a go. Bob
  4. Hi, You could try connecting the thermostat up all the time with a loop of wire, this way the fan would run continuously and so if this solves the problem is is definately a dodgy thermostat. If the cooland level is low then surely the thermostat wouldn't work atall, doesn't it need to be submerged in water? bob
  5. When I got my bike I replaced the water pump shaft and seal and so had to replace the gasket aswell. I used a razor blade to scrape off any remaining bits of gasket which stuck to the cases. I didn't use any grease or silicone to stick it into place, I just used the locator pin things. I also didn't over tighten the bolts too much. i have had no problems with it in six months.

    Sprockets

Well I have got an 11T sprocket for the front, a new chain and a 41T sprocket for the back. For now I am just running it with the front sprocket changed until the old chain and rear sprocket wear out. Thanks for your help, Bob

    Sprockets

Mine is only a 200, I can't see why the previous owner has gone down to 10 teeth on the front, He must have been 'wacked out', anyway, I can use first in some sections which are really tangly, but it is otherwise useless, I don't see the point in having a useless gear so why not make them all useable and give me some extra speed at tyhe same time, good to see somebody agrees. He didn't buy it, he made it.

    Sprockets

I never ride in fourth??? It is only a 200. I quite often ride in first though and it is just a little too slow, I am getting a new sprocket on tuesday

    Sprockets

I find second ok to use, I just thought that if I up geared it slightly then it would make more gears useable in sections, second is fine for most stuff, but just not quite right, slightly too high for twisty stuff which as you say can get by by using the clutch which I do, but when it comes to big steps then it is too low, and I don't like overrevving. I think that I will try the origonal gearing, I spoke to afew people at my last trial and they agreed that I should put it back to origonal sprocket sizes. As for new sprockets and chain, the chain need replacing soon, but the bike had new sprockets on at christmas when I bought it, which is probably when the size was reduced on the front sprocket. The sprockets are in next to new condition, and so I have been told that just replace the chain and front sprocket. Also if you are riding in really muddy conditions then shouldn't your sprockets last about twice as long as your chain. If you are riding in dryer conditions where your chain gets less wear then they should last about the same amount of time. Bob

    Flywheel Cover Update

So, Will you be selling them? And do any of you use any grease or silicone or similar to seal that flywheel cover on? I took mine off last week and there was a litle bit of grut getting past the rubber thing where the electrils go in I have got it out with a little brake cleaner and the bike on an angle. Bob
  12. Mine had a tendancy to run badly when pointed downhill, and a blip on the throttle every now and then when pointing downhill stopped this, but does get annoying, especially if you forget and you have to balance at the bottom whilst trying to start your bike. I eventually turned my tickover up a fraction and that stopped the problem. Alternatively, I believe that you can get an extension to the float bowl from Josh Lampkin Inports which is supposed to solve this problem. bob
  13. Does it matter to have a small dent in your exhaust? I have two very small dimples, I didn't think that it was worth repairing, and would be more difficult to repair with only small dents. My old sherco had a massive dent and it went fine, but maybe not as fine as it could have done?
  14. I think that you mean that there are three layers. On the top is a protective layer which is kindof bumpy paper In the middle is the sticker On the bottom is the backing stuff. When you put them on peel off the backing stuff which reveals the sticky side of the sticker, then put the sticker on very carefully, I am not sure about using soapy water, I didn't. Once the sticker is in place then warm it up with a heat gun or hair drier to allow the glue to go soft. Once the sticker has cooled a little then peel off the sticky back papery protective thing and you will be left with a bootiful sticker, full of bubbles if you are like me. You can use your thumb and a hair drier to get bubbles out. Try this page, it is very helpful
  15. you should have a go at driving that thing, I don't know why thay call it a traction engine, it gets stuck if you go through a cow pat, and it does't respond to the steering atall. Last time I drove it was in Scarborough and I took out a kerb because I couldn't see where I was going and it doesn't like going up hills atall, and you can only go downhill in reverse. FIX-IT is getting it steamed up tomorrow for the boiler test, come and have a drive. bob
  16. It isn't a 4RT, but the next best thing, a 1908 Fowler k5 steam ploughing engine. It is my dads hobby, there is another one behind the camera in pieces.
  17. Here is my bike, Just a standard 200 beta.

    Sprockets

I understand what this will do to my bike. There was an easy trial in our wood last night, and out of the seven sections I only rode one of them in first, and I could have ridden it in second. I first noticed it when practicing, in first I am practically flat out in about a metre, but second is sometimes slightly too high, plus for BIG hill climbs even third seems too low. I definately want to go up a little, probably going bact to standard sprocket sizes would be best. bob

    Sprockets

Thanks, Mine is currently on 10 : 42 So the front sprocket has been down sized. I will probably go up a tooth then on the front sprocket, which would be like going down four on the back. I was just unsure of what clearance there should be on the front. I should be able to keep up between sections then

    Sprockets

Hi everyone. My bike is in need of a new chain. The sprockets are OK, but at my last trial the bike seemed a little too slow, and everyone was passing me between sections, despite going flat out. What size sprockets are you Beta riders running? My bike is an 03 200cc, I thought that I might try a few teeth less on the rear sprocket. But I would like to know if it is the front sprocket which has been down sized by the previous owner or the rear sprocket up sized before I go out and buy the wrong sprockets. Thanks Bob I will get back with my current sizes soon.

    2002 Rev 3

I would go for it, they are really relaible bikes, and they are really nice to ride. It will almost definately be more reliable than your Gasser. Feetup also have a pretty good stock of spares for Beta's, but don't take Alans advice, it has misled me mny a time, he is a good bloke though. If you don't like it you would probably get

    I Need A Ride

As you know I am new to this, so here is a pic of me on my first dry day out on the new bike. Isn't it annoying though when you are the only decent photographer in your riding group, and you end up with good pics of everyone else, but cruddy ones of you.
  24. I don't believe it, if you buy a bike on the saturday and he is going to post it on the Tuesday then you would have thought that the guy would have time to put it in a box, it is now Thursday and it has just been dispatched by parcel force. well, I hope the bike arrives. bob
  25. try saving it as a bitmap, they are much smaller... I think. What do you mean Lewis, you mean you want me to sell you parts off the megamo when I replace them, I am likely to onl ybe replacing the seat (if one is required) cables, chain and freewheel. If you want parts off that mountain bike then you must be mad
