  1. Bolts wear as much as everything else. bein made of monkey metal dont help! replacing all bushes, bearings, bolts, and rose joints is the only way to totaly renew linkage. But even then you will most likely find a small amount of play. Its just a question of how much you can put up with i guess.
  2. Its always worth writing down the frame number, and double checking the year with Rathmells. Its a common trick to sell, lets say, an 03 as on 05. Its easy to do because the plastics are pretty much the only difference. Ive known it happen quite a lot.
  3. Haha, im back on after 6 years. If it bites you, i find swearing at it and lookig at it dissaprovingly helps.
  4. Rear mudguard is 99. But the tank is 2000. Forks are either 99 or early 2000 (they changed to non-adjustable type mid 2000) Best guess is 2000 in my opinion. It is 100% NOT any newer than 2000! Ive ridden sherco for 11 years now, so i know what to look for. Is that 1000 euro hes looking for? bit on the pricey side id say. Doesnt look in great condidtion. Sherco only made 2 stroke bikes until 05, when they introduced their first 4t model. ALL sherco trials bikes are carburated. NON are injected. I owned the 290cc version from the same year and it was a great bike, so i would reccomend it for a begginer. Things to note are the thermostats are prone to giving up (Quite expensive), and the plastics for this year are also quite brittle, and also expensive. Looking at the pic, it looks like it would at least need a clutch lever (bent), a fork seal (oil rings around r/h fork stantion?), and possibly chain & sprockets (chain looks slack & most likley buggerd) Your loooking at
  5. I seriously recommend NOT using caustic soda. I did some experimenting on cleaning and re-packing some damaged silencers, and it does more damage than good in my opinion. Its ok in steel front pipes, but it eats through alloy like a hot knife through butter !
  6. So you are adding 62.5ml(ish) to 5 litres of fuel? Thats probably about as lean as you want to go in my opinion. Your bike however, is giving signs of running over rich which seems odd, with such a lean mixture. If it is leaking out of the bottom, it sounds like there is a hole that needs sealing. I reccomend you find someone handy with a TIG welder. The Most concerning thing though, is that there is enough oil in your exhaust to drip out. I run my 2011 290 at 75:1 (66/7ml to 5L fuel) and it doesnt build up with black at the outlet at all. Have you 100% got your fuel mixture correct?
  7. Thanks for all your replies. Ive actually ditched any ideas of pressure/freezing, or popcorn ! What im goin to do is cut the rear section out by grinding off the seams and accross the tank, reshape the dented section i take out, and weld it all back in again. Then dress the weld across the tank out. I know a carbon fiber guy, so may donate my tank to him for a while to make a mould for a cover. Might post some pics of the operation, for anyone whos in the same boat in the future !
  8. Thanks guys, I had no problems with the standard 26mm delorto when i ran them a few years ago, I had them down to a fine art. This newer 28mm though, seems so sporadic, its unreal. I have been told today though, that the kehin and oko wont fit my bike as the cdi is in the way . Maybe ill stick with it for a while longer, see if i cant work the kinks out!
  9. Never seems to be. I take it off and back flush it every time out and have not found anything in it yet.
  10. I always use carb cleaner. Quick squirt and swill around the grip, quickly shake out excess, and shove it on. The carb cleaner makes the inside of the grip go tacky so is kinda like using glue. Done this for the last 10 years, and can only remember one occasion where a grip slipped. Never used wire either.

    Sherco

I too run -2 springs. i noticed yesterday that it was slipping in 4th & 5th, so put them back in. No difference, so i went back to -2 ! Ive had 8 or 9 shercos over the last 10 years, and have had this problem in half of those bikes. i always just put up with it. However, i know many people with the same problem over the years. Most were cured with the washer fix.
  12. Ah...thats right, its all flooding back to me! Yeah they had a hanger, similar to the disk side one, yet they never made or supplied a guard ! I think i made one out of ally once, looked terrible, but did the job ! As most bikes have the small calliper behind the swingarm now, you will probably have to look at older bikes to see if they have one that will fit.
  13. Ill be flushing the tank with a non solvent degreaser first, to avoid any exposions! Dont think you need much heat to set the popcorn off either. I dont believe for one second it will work, but you gotta try !
  14. Whoops ! sorry i was thinking of rear sprocket guards! As i remember, my 2000 sherco didnt have a disk guard The newer ones probably wont fit as the calliper on them sits behind the swingarm, where as yours, i believe, sits on top.
  15. Hi. They are a universal fit
  16. I just got a 2011 290, rode it about 6 times now, most of which were wet and muddy. Although it does collect dirt around the cap, i honestly have never thought of it as a problem. i just wipe it away with my hand, and take care when screwing off the cap. The most annoying thing for me is how tight the bloody cap gets! I do however like tinkering, so have come up with what i think is a good idea. imagine a tube made from thin steel mesh, with one end open. it would be the same diameter as the filler kneck, and as high as the bottom of the threads. it just sits there, and if any dirt falls in, just whip it out and emtpy out the dirt. I havent looked in my tank to see if its possible yet, but if it is, ill knock something up and post some pics.
  17. Hi all, dented the tank in my 2011 sherco yesterday Anyone got any ideas on hows to fix it? Ive started to look into blowing it out with high pressure air, but dont like the thought of it going bang with 100psi in it ! One interesting thing i found online was to fill it with uncooked popcorn, heat it up, and the expanding popcorn might push it out! Not sure if thats gonna work, but seems harmless enough so am goin to give it a go tomorrow ! Ill post back the results! Any other suggestions appreciated!
  18. Hi all, I got myself a new 2011 290 sherco, and i am not a great fan of the 28mm delorto carb. Seems un-responsive at the bottom, and overall performance is sporadic at best. Im thinking about fitting a Keihin, having heard good things about them in the past, but after searching for a while on the forums here, many people seem to favor the OKO 26mm, or even 24mm equivelants. Love to know as many opinions as possible on any of these carbs. Id like to go with the OKO as they are cheap as chips, but am prepared to pay the extra if the keihin warranted it. Look forward to hearing from you all
  19. I heard some info on it today. Fuel tanks IS vertically filled. Deffinatley isnt injection though ! Brand new engine, although its more of an external re-design as most of the internals are the same. Have to say i think other bikes will struggle to look as good.
  20. Hi guys. Recently moved to Stansted from "oop North" and wanted to know peoples opinions on the trials scene down here. I used to be well involved in the scene, and worked for one of the UK importers but have been off a bike for a few years now. From the people i have already spoken to, im told i will find events down here a big dissapointment, as they just dont have the variation in terrain like we have up north (Richmond/Darlington/Yeadon & Guisley/Ripon etc were my local clubs). Im told i will only find muddy banks and tree roots in this area! What opinions do you guys hold? Cheers Coriolis
