  1. bikes going back to the garage i got it from tomorrow, he said hes going to weld a plate on. :D surely theres a cheaper exhaust of different one i can put on, like an aftermarket one, fmf do exhausts that look similar to trials ones.but i dont no if u can use them on trials bikes

A different one will still get bent in and be no better - I used one of the inner liners this place did - not sure if they still do them My link

  2. Actually, I'm trying to talk myself into buying a compressor - at the moment I can only think of the following uses:

    1. Fitting tyres

    2. Blowing out spark plug holes (on 4 strokes)

    3. pushing out brake caliper pistons

    4. Cleaning Carbs

What else are they really useful for? Everything above can be achieved without one.

I imagine they'd be equally useful for blowing out spark plug holes on a twostroke but would not recommend it as a method for any motor as it's likely to put dirt etc in to the motor. Better to use an old plug with a diagonal saw cut across the thread to clean a plug hole thread.

  3. Get the disc hot and spray gently it with water from a hose or watering can. You're not so much treating the metal as removing the fine rubbish from the surface to get full friction. I've never seen a disc damaged this way. More likely to do so by putting in the oven I would have said.

  4. Don't know about the era mentioned but the diesel army bike I read about was based on KL650 cycle parts and was being developed for the US but apparently Britain was interested. The advantage is there's no need to have petrol when everything else runs on diesel - and you can always commandeer a local chippie for fuel if need be in emergency! As the British Army dropped motorcycles a couple of years ago the matter became irrelevant.

  5. Looks good! That should help take a few points off your score.

Each to their own but I'm afraid that is my attitude also to spending money on that sort of thing. If I was young and rode in conditions where they might last more than ten minutes I could think differently.

  6. I'd say your plates are just separating better than they did before (different oil?). If the rattle goes away when the plates come together then no problem. I daresay there's a few on here who would love to get a rattle when they pulled in the clutch lever.

  7. Hi all,I have a 2010 300 4t i am having problems with the clutch.the problem is when the engine is cold the clutch doesn't work ie put it in gear and its away on its own.Now I've had the gear return spring snap which i think is caused by this problem. The clutch mod has been done by a previous owne.can anyone help pleaser

This is another one of those "They all do that Sir" problems. I assume that, like my Beta, the clutch clears eventually. The way to speed this up is to push the bike off with a foot as you put it in to gear with the clutch lever in then change up the box, holding the lever in all the time; when you get to fourth the clutch will free and you should be OK after that. Or use the bike every week.

  8. I have a pair of Cub wheels fitted into my Panther trials bike.Amazingly the front wheel is the same sizes brake as was originally fitted back in the 30's.After spending a few hours stripping the wheels down to dry the drums and brakes after our very wet and swampy trial last weekend I noticed the front wheel bearings are a bit sloppy one side.

can any one supply the bearing sizes so I can purchase some ready to fit after our next swampy trial.

    Cheers

It come as no surprise to those of us with worn out bootsoles to hear that there was no attempt at improvement in braking between the Thirties and Fifties. :D

  9. hi guys im new to this forum and if i must say i think its great

basicly i have just bought a 2010 evo 250 and it doesnt have a headlight board on it which i would really prefere to have one..

i have searched my ass off online for one and cant find one anywhere at all.......

could any of yous point me in the right direction for one

    keep er lit :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

There must be headlights lying in many a shed across the country.

  10. Has anyone ever snapped the 10mm sump drain bolt, I hand tightened it them gave it a nip with racket and it's snapped, stuck in and half way down the thread.

    Any idea's.

Young lads was going to be using it in a trial tomorrow so you can imagine how p****d off he is.

I once effected a temporary repair by dropping the sumpguard and sandwiching a bit of plastic between guard and whatever I used to fill the hole with. Even easier nowadays that we have silicon seal. Take oil to top up and you should get him out tomorrow.

  11. I had a problem with the a 2011 Evo , explained the problem over the phone, next day they sent a new stator free of charge. Was quite amazed at there service and how helpful they were on the phone.

Practice makes perfect alas in that case.

  12. Of course a sharp edge gives a competitive advantage - or why would we bother to buy a nice new tyre when the tread rounds off?

I confess I once sharpened the edge blocks on the 348 with a Stanley knife as they seem to do a lot of the work (they round off quicker) but I felt it lacked traction on cambers. I'd better hand back that Aberfeldy Two Day finishers award now I suppose.

  13. just in the middle of full rebuild and has anyone got advice on foot rest mods

been reading a few articles on the web and most say back an inch and down a inch

anybody done this mod to they bike any advice would be grateful before a start cutting the rest mounts off

An easier compromise? My TY had been altered by the original owner - the footrests had an extra "rung" added to the rear to widen them for comfort (much like modern rests). I certainly found that, if wheelspin occurred, then flexing my ankles to put all my weight on the back edge certainly improved grip.
