  1. I hope that I can speak on behalf of the majority of members of these forums. To all our Trials buddies in Japan, our thoughts are with you and your families during these difficult times.
  2. Does anybody have any further info on this event? I cant find much on their website. Like where is it? Start time? Entries on the day? Thanks Al
  3. For starters you need to get on the bike an practice pratice practice. The nearest place I use is about 25 miles South of London at Betchworth Quarry. http://www.theoldquarry.co.uk/ There are others if you want to travel further. There are a bunch of friendly guys that go there that will be more than willing to help you. Its open Saturday / Sunday 10am till 2pm and it costs about
  4. In my youth we used to have a fibre board with the printed card on top and a six inch nail on a piece of string attached to it. Works every time in any weather. Remember the urban myth? The Russians used a pencil in space and the Americans spent a million on a pen...... Al
  5. I would like to thank the Sunbeam MCC who put on the Star Group Trial at Bagshot South on Sunday. The event was extremely well organised. I would especially like to thank the observers who braved the cold and non stop rain all day. Not one of them seemed to mind. In fact I was even cheered on a few times threeing up hills even after my body said otherwise. The sections, whilst a little testing at times were well received by everyone I spoke to. All in all an excellent trial that catered for every conceivable type of bike and rider. Well done Sunbeam. Al
  6. DOH! - Well nobody told me that one and it certainly wasnt in the instructions that came with the tyres.... Top skills though getting it on the rims without one! maybe I could start a new trend? If tubeless is that much better for grip and feel, so i have read, why use a tube in the front? Why make a tubeless tyre? As for the rest of the comments, they all make perfect sense, its a simple matter of physics in the end. It won't leak if the air can't get out! Jon, I am liking the 30psi for storage idea. Al
  7. I am slowly getting my bike into a condition where I will have to stop blaming it and have to admit I cant ride...... But in the meantime, I took the plunge and bought a set of Michelin tubeless tyres to replace the rather rotten front and the not so knobbly rear. This after selecting first in some snow last week and the bike not even moving, wheelspin from a standing start, not too impressive. Got the old rubber off without too much hassle, tubes, typical. After reading here I was guessing that I am in for a treat, cleaning the rims, sticking down the rim tape and who knows what else. Decided to try without changing the rim tapes, afterall they looked pretty much foscilised into place. Back first put in a new tubeless valve and wahey it jumped straight onto the rims, but its leaking around the valve. Would you suggest keep tightening the valve and risk it snapping off or start again, new rim tapes with silicon or something over the spokes? Do I need to put any goo around the valve? Also tried the front, there is a security bolt and most of the wind was escaping around that. I managed to seal it with a bit of old inner tube to get beads on but its leaking arounbd the bolt. This got me wondering, do I need a security bolt or not? If I do how do I go about stopping the leak if not, what do i fill the hole with? Thanks in advance. Al
  8. Jon So that's why I get so many fives. Al
  9. I believe thats with the forks fully extended with springs in, measured from the top of the leg to the top of the oil. Also one leg takes more than the other. Al
  10. Thanks guys I assume you mean the T&MX paper rather than their website as the site seems to show last weeks events, do you know which day they update? Also can anyone decifer this? from South Eastern Centre Trials Dates 2011 Sun 10 Jan GROUPS NK=Extra/Team Trial, EK=GEST Forgive my ignorance but as a computer programmer this is beyond me..........(prepares to eat hat) Al
  11. Where is the best place to find out what trials are on in the South East? Al
  12. Lineaway Thanks a million, that did the trick. How the hell it got turned upside down I will never know. Anyway off to load the van! All the Best Al
  13. Hi I am in the process of changing the front springs in my TXT 300 pro 2007. Without the springs on I put the right (sitting on the bike and has a red cap) cartridge in and did up the drain bolt which I assume attaches to the cartridge, without any problem. I came to do the left side and I cannot get the bolt to locate into the cartridge. If I use a longer bolt I can get the thread started. I looked inside and there is what looks like a washer or spacer sitting in the bottom of the fork, which of course doesnt want to come out. I really dont want to be taking the forks off the bike if I can get away with it as its -3c in my garage and I was hoping to do a trial tomorrow. Question is, do I try and get it out, or keep fiddling with the bolt? and should it actually be there? I have looked at some exploded diagrams and none of them show a washer or spacer below the cartridge. Cold and desperate. Al
  14. I found this company on the web http://www.k-tech.uk.com/ they sell a big range of springs for road and offroad machines. Unfortunately nothing GasGas specific. I am guessing that GasGas would have used standard parts of some sort, any ideas? Al
  15. What worked for me was.... One foot on the footrest and the other foot on the rear mudguard just behind where the seat would be. This allows you to get used to finding the tipping point and be comfortable with it, as you can use your weight transfer to raise and lower the front. Al
  16. Thank you all so much for taking the time to answer my post. I fitted an 11 tooth sprocket and the differece was unbelievable. Its suits my riding style perfectly. I can now sail up the inclines I was struggling with without a problem and there seems plenty more torque and grip. Al
  17. Thanks for that guys, I am thinking I need to get it to standard and then work out whether the low gearing was the problem. Thinking back it does seem a bit underpowered so I am probably giving it so much welly in a low gear, just to get the speed up. The throttle response seems fine. Al
  18. I Can't Believe it

  19. Hi I am returning to trials after a 30 year break and have aquired a TXT Pro 300. Does anybody know what the 07 standard gearing is? Mine has 9 up front and 44 on the back, which seems a strange combination compared to what I have read here. The back end will spin up when I give it some on loose/muddy hills but it never seems to get to the very top of really steep hills either I'm not going fast enough or its spinning. I cant quite work out which yet. I tried a Sherco 250 and it shot up everything when given a handfull. Any ideas?
  20. My 2007 TXT 300 had a stuck fan. Rather than pay a rip off
