  1. ahh, someone agrees! :D Thanks for that timp!

I fitted a flywheel weight to the bike when i first got it, i thought that may be the problem, took it off and went out on it yesterday. No different! ;)

There was a section i was trying and the best i got was a.. erm..5 . afterwards i went back to the section on my dads 1997 JTX 250 and P***ed it ;)

Its really hardwork to ride!! Also it was constantly trying to upright it self if you were trying to ride in a rut to the left or right. As you suggest timp, it may have something to do with the weight distribution or something?

A mate of ours was there yesterday on an 06 250 and he has found the same, except without the mechanical probs. Also he pointed out the front drifts very easily on turns :D

Also tryed slackening off the rear shock all the way and even taking away the damping. It was practically botoming out when stood up on it and bouncing on it, however, my dad said when i was riding it through the section, the rear suspension was'nt moving, as gasserboy pointed out.

I'll have to take it back to get the problems sorted

  2. Hi, I have had my 06 300 for a month or so know. It is a very nice bike but i have a few problems!!

    1. I cannot ride it! This sounds crazy, i had an 05 300 which i loved and managed to gain some good results from riding. i have jumped on this new one and it feels nothing like the old one, i feel like a muppet riding it. I've spent ages tweeking the Suspension and working on personal set-up but, it has not made a difference :D:D

    2. It struggles to go into gear until it is warm!!! even when it is warm, the gear box feels awful!

    3. I've checked it over today to ride tomorrow, there seems to be a leek coming from around the barrel. theres a small pool of petrol/oil on me garage floor! Bit worrying.

    4. the sump guard has split in half, but i have not even hit it on anything yet :D Its only rested on the work stool.

There are a few more things too. I am going out on it tomorrow to see how it feels, otherwise i will have to get something else. I can't have it discintegrating after each ride :D .

What i really want to know is, has anyone else who has an 06 had trouble getting used to it?!? I have been last every trial i've ridden on it. I cannot balance on it properly, when you ride it up a stream you get chucked everywhere - really scittish. I've had every gasgas pro model and this one feels nothing like anything i've ridden before. i feel a right dick'ed :) !

Thanks for letting me have a moan! :D

  3. try and make it look like how you would like to see it if you were buying it! ;)

take the wheels off, airbox, mudguards coz it's worth spending a few hours giving the thing a good clean so you get top price for it. clean your engine with a paint brush and some degreaser or brake cleaner. get all the rust off with some wire wool and autosol. take any tatty stickers off etc.

you will probably be surprized after putting some effort in how clean you can get it :D

  4. Its extremly hard to compete with the internet, as you can see the latest results etc within an hour of the release. It was a good idea TW, but eaach time you got it it was kind of the same. it was good to read the rider interview and like someone said eddy lejuene commenting on the riders was quite interesting.

perhaps an online version would work a lot better?

  5. Suggest speaking to Kev at Gasgasuk. he is extremly helpful and will point you in the right direction! Popular mods usually are;

    Keihin carb

    9/48 gearing

    high comp head

    porting and polishing

    gas flowing etc

I know someone who did this on their 125 gasser and it was still gutless :D

Really you should just consider gearing and carburation (with the standard carb) to start with.

  6. woah, it's ok ;)

the bike was no-where near run - in at the time, the past 300's i've had were buggers to start when new.

Since this problem, its been well run-in and starts first kick everytime (even from cold) and it has'nt missed a beat :D

I understand where you are coming from but i cannot blame the dealer for the bike not being run-in, as genuinely, the ones in the past were not the easiest to start.

    thanks again. ;)

  7. Its very much like doing it on a bike but the rear suspension disorientates you slightly at first, then you start to feel the advantage, as the motorized version is a lot heavier. it learning to co-ordinate the rear brake, clutch, revs, suspension and technique at the same time

my personal record is 14 on me gasser. remember the footage Andy shot of Freixa at Dulluth this year, on that rock? 12 and he turned 90 degrees aswell. :D iz right!

  8. Thankyou very much for all your replies! much appreciated.

    It is now fixed :D

took it back on tuesday and he started work on it thursday AM and it was done that afternoon. turned out it managed to short itself when the wiring loom came off . a replaced wire later, it was fine.

One thing though, he said it was an absolute b***ard to start. could not get it going (After it was producing a spark) and ended up having to pour petrol down the plughole. I found that when you try to start it from stone cold, it takes about 20 kicks to get it fired, after that, it's first kick everytime. come to think of it.. the old one was like that for a while.

At least it fixed, thanks again for your replies.

  9. I have been looking for a spark with the tank off!

i've even gone as far as to replace all the wiring loom inc. lights, indicators. No wires are being pinched, all the connections are tight :) Starting to loose the plot with it already.

I phoned a mate of mine yesterday and he had a 125 that the whole ignition system went. the difference is though, his bike did not start at all from new and i've been riding this one around for hours.

    :D baffled! Cheers.

  10. Hi,

Last week i bought a brand new 06 300. Got it home, first thing i did was check that it started! it did so.. ok. Took the lighting loom off it, put a new kill button on it and went out the next day to run it in, it was fine all day, started first kick, ran perfect.

Since then, something has gone wrong.

I cleaned it all up, did the usual Gas Gas mods like silicon everything up etc. went to start it yesterday, the engine was just turning. took the plug out and checked for a spark... nothing!

took the flywheel off, checked the airgap between the flywheel and the pick-up and its spot on. Woodruff key is ok. Flywheel is clean and dry. put it back on correctly, still no spark!

Took the aftermarket (yam style) kill button off and even put all the wiring loom back on, correctly... guess what, no spark. :)

i've done all the dopey stuff like new plugs etc. Anyone any ideas? I was hoping to ride it tomoz but this aint likely. Also i think the dealer is shut til tuesday.

    Any thoughts appreciated, Jools :D

  11. I just got a 06 300 and its magic. Only just run it in so cant wait to get out and win some trials on it. :)

Lots of people say the raga bars are too low and space them up. the cheaper hebo tapered bars are high, like 5" or so. theres still quite a few pairs at gasgas Uk.

  12. Get home from trial :( ,take the tank, airbox, rear mudguard off; then jet wash the bike. After that; take out air filter, jetwash out the airbox, bucket and sponge all the plastics and tank separatly (otherwise stickers or laquer rip off). Carb comes off and thouroughly cleaned, check all nut n' bolts, chain comes off and goes in an oil bath for a day or so, inflate tyres. Polish up hubs, mid-box & silencer. put under dust sheet! :o

once a month the flywheel comes off and is cleaned, suspension linkages greased, spokes tightened.

Start on the sunday and worst case senario, done by tuesday :) .
