  1. Unless it's realy tired , (in need of minor overhaul) I've never heard of a 315 being a slacker in the power dept. start with the basic's and make sure it is in good tune ie plug , clean air filter , timing set correctly no air leaks(vacum), carb clean , float level corect, ect. ect. make sure it's as it's suposed to be before looking for mods.... imho...

    good luck

    Glenn

  2. Thanks , and doing a search on it I find that all the supplier/

Importer links are dead ... But they claim Steve Saunders had a hand in

the chassis design ...? Which might make worth a engine swap $$$$.

I've got a complete running spare fantic 240 pro motor !!!

    :wub::thumbup:

  3. The content of Mr. bills speech is on the wall in my 13 year old daughters

room... although she maintains a 4.0 average in all of her classes , her favorite saying at times is THAT'S NOT FAIR !!!

And no it isn't fair for my kids to have to deal w/my single parentedness ,

    is life ever fair ?

    I love his speech...

    Glenn

OOOPPSS , Al I should have looked at your links first !!!!

But I still like the sentiment of the story ...

  4. A plus on the Real World story of Doc Holiday !

Did you or some one you know do a report on him for school ?

And yes somewhere back in time I saw a tin type of Big nose, and

she was quite a package ... nose and all !!!

    Great read.

  5. Andy ; I think it is a great idea...

I'm a fairly well seasoned competitor who lost track of trials for almost

    30 years !!!!

And finding my way back after 3 wives and a whole bunch of other B.S. has been the best thing to happen to me in quite a few years !!

But a newbie guide would be a wonderful thing !

And iff we could get all the dirtbike buying public to understand that almost

all of the best enduro, motox , and even roadracers ride trials in one form or another to sharpen their skills and practice bike control fundamentals !!!!

    :D:wacko::D

Glenn, and you do , do a great job too.......................

  6. Lane does bring up a good point...

I remember being maybe 10 or 11 and just finished a NETA event in cape cod (I think?) and watching Don Sweet ride down the length of some loose telephone poles just laying on the ground ... I just had to fire up my trusty tl125 and try it to no avail. I could get maybe 5 feet down the log and then front wheel would be on one side and back tire on the other !!! and mind you , the poles were only a foot in dia. or less... Don and his dad were always the niceist folks , He was #1 in new england for the 2nd or 3rd year at the time...

Wish I never left N.E. for CA. when I was young, I would have stayed in trials and might be able to actually ride a bike now !!! But thats life and now I'm in my 2nd childhood and I just wanna have fun ! and compete a little .!!!!!

    Thanks Don wherever you are...

    Glenn :D:wacko:

And around the same time my brother rode support in a world round in new england (got a full page picture in cycle world magazine , ratty shirt and all, but it was a classic new england picture of him in a stream !) and I saw lane ride more than once , HE does truly know how to work a trials bike... :D

And Bernie was there too. Good Times !!!! Those three were my idols when I was a boy. and none of my freinds understood what trials was , I wish the japenese had stayed in trials like they were then , It would be a differant sport now , at least here in the states.!

  7. Lane; what is the full title of Bernie's book ? And a ? for my memory banks ,

When did all the hopping start ? cause I got away from trials right about the time Bernie became champ or the begining of that year... and at the time I don't recall hopping at all. And it was all slow and controled no stopping at

    all......

    Glenn :crying:

  8. :crying: I don't remember them ever being that inexpensive , but then again I never paid for them back then. the dealer we rode for and my dad did...

    :P

    glenn

And lane is your book available anywhere these days ? I'm not a hopper

and if I remember correctly it had some good basic technique in it that I

    should brush up on.................

  9. And not to sideswipe the post I have to ask ron a ?

I just got given a 90 zero to go along with my 240 pro ,

Are parts a big issue for this bike ,my brother who picked it up

in oregon for me says its pretty rough........

And I rode with your son at shooting creek last september and I was

quite impressed with the young man ..........w/more than just his riding

honestly his patience w/a old guy on a old bike that hadn't competed in 30 odd years was impessive , great kid.

    :crying:

    Glenn

  10. And I thought works riders got free practice bikes and payment for riding events , plus all the expensense were paid for out of the factorys pocket.

Sounds to me that our senior works riders are getting the sharp end of the

stick ... I mean It doesn't take much to buy your own bike at cost or so ,

when you know the importer and try to get a new one every year so you can

stay currant and advertise for them... of course you'll get a deal !!!

I think our works riders get a little support from the respective importers

and thats about it I beleive ...

But then beave will prove us all wrong !!!!!

    Glenn

And boy food and fuel would be soooo cooool these days.................. :crying:

    :P

  11. Thank you very much ! And looking at what I was planning on doing in greater

detail , with a ruler and cardboard mockup , It's doable but would get complicated at the brake lever mount... So I think I'll just get some modern

style pegs and make them work, The stock fantic pegs leave alot to be desired

even though mine are in good shape . And one more ?... are the hebo pegs

weldable with standard mig wire or would I have to get a special spool ?

    Thanks again , cheers

    <_<:)

    Glenn

And as far as the ten comandments ... So its got a maico 501 top end !

Its period correct...!!## a little port work and it's almost rideable...

Just playing I love the 240 motor .(except for the lack of Ign. parts

    available!)

  12. Hi all , I was wondering if someone could go to their 315 or 4t and

measure the frame thickness at the point where the footpeg brackets mount

and the distance between the bolt holes , and from the mount holes to the

center of the footpeg mount ... I have a idea to use some montesa brackets

on my 240 pro to mount modern pegs lower and further back after the O.E.

footpeg stubs have been removed !!! It all depends on the inside width of the mounting area on the montesa brackets...

    Thanks for indulging me !!!

    <_<

    :P

  13. :D Minor family emergancy so I had to cancel out *#*&^*$##!!

And Alan your going to have to come to a ITSA event at Ginders ranch after I get some NJB Trikshoks on my 'NEW' 240 pro so you can apriciate what the old girl can do ! I do owe you a ride on it and we have got to meet !

But I won't be able to get out there until october the way things are going

at this point in time !!...

ANDY THANKS FOR THE VIDEOS !!!! your the best !! :)

    ;)

    Glenn

  14. I too just started competing again after a 25 or 30 year hiatus ...

And yes at my first modern event I got enough 5's for a whole season , but in my defense the bulk of them were for cleaning a section on the wrong line ! or just completely blowing the section . ( I was excited like a little kid !)

But it was the different observers that made the day for me , I received the most congratulations and encouragement from them the whole day long ... They all made me feel good at the end of the sections even when I did something stupid !!!

How could you be ungrateful for them spending the day watching everyone else ride and enjoying themselves !!

Oh well now another old guy rambling...

    :):D

  15. :wall: I used two HK2020uu brgs on each side of the swingarm and drilled the arm for greasefittings, then used orings for seals on the inside ends of the the swingarm . just be careful where you drill the holes for the fittings . The shifter side zerk has to be at the bottom fo the tube near the weld or it will hit the engine case , and the chain side one has to aim right at the countershaft . I used miniture angled zerk fittings drilled to mount between the 2 brgs , and when you install the brgs , leave a small gap between the casings so grease from your fitting can get thru . and ounce mounted you have to file the end of the fittings off on the inside of the brg. hole so you can get the brgs in far enough with a slight gap between them over the grease fitting mount hole.

I got the brgs. from www.vxb.com , and if your shaft is gouged up you can get a new one from Atelier BMZ in france, www.bmz.fr , a great source for all kinds of old bike stuff ...

It sounds like alot of work but was actualy quite easy and well worth the effort to have a smooth ,long lasting swingarm pivot...

    Cheers :D

    Glenn

  16. :P

Just reassembled my 240 pro yesterday with new double needle brgs. in the swingarm pivot, and can actualy see the stock marzocchi's flex upon compression !!!! It works 100% better with new brgs. but I need new shocks.

Has anyone tried the new NJB trikshok W/ the spherical brgs in the eyelets instead of rubber bushings yet ! looks like the hot ticket to me !!

    Any info helpful

    Thanks :D:D
