    Beta Problem

Hi, I've just sold my 2000 270. Before I sold it it was running perfectly and had just been serviced with a new plug, filter, oil, etc prior to the lad coming to have a look at it. The lad rode it at my place taking it all the way through the gears - rang his mate who had a Beta for any advice and was happy to take it away. He had it for a few days and he said it was running perfectly. He decided to drain the tank and alter the oil/gas mix - I had it at 75:1, he went for 70:1 - cleaned out the carb and changed cleaned the plug. As soon as he had done all this the bike - he says - ran like a pig; OK upto a third throttle then lumpy and misfiring. He told me he phoned his local garage who said it was the stator and that will be

    Torque Settings

Hi, Thanks a lot for that. With 6) I meant the rear axle/spindle bolt. I'll give it a go at 19ft lb's, although it doesn't sound that much. With my KTM it's about 80Nm!!!. Cheers,

    Torque Settings

Hi, I've been overhauling a 2000 Rev 3 270 and now need to tighten things back-up. I rang Lampkins who said that there are no-torque values available except for the cylinder head. I'd just like to know what if any settings people use for the following: 1). Front wheel axle. 2). Fork clamps. 3). Handlebar clamps 4). Swingarm. 5). Brake mounting bolts. 4). Rear axle. Cheers,
  4. Hi, Has anyone got any of the above that they could photocpy/scan for me (for payment of course)? I've tried e mailing Beta in Italy, but I havn't heard anything yet. Cheers, Andy
  5. Thanks for that. I rang BVM and tried to explain the problem, but his parts catalogue didn't show it and they havn't got a bike of that year in. Before I order a new air box can someone with a similar year bike check how their air filter cover attaches to the air box. On mine there is a hole in the top left of the cover for a screw that goes into the airbox. There is also one at the bottom of the cover that does the same. At corresponding points on the airbox there are brass threaded inserts. At the top righthand of the cover there is a hole which matches a hole in the bodywork and one in the airbox. However, the hole in the airbox is just that - a hole with no threaded insert. Is this missing? If so then I need a new airbox and they're +
  6. Hi, I'm having trouble fitting the airbox cover - there's a large hole that goes through the cover, then through the bodywork and then into the airbox. There is no screwthread in the airbox , so what goes in there to keep it in place? Or should there be some form of thread in there? Where it attaches to the airbox at the other points, there are metal threaded inserts. If I attach the cover at the threaded holes, it seems to be way of the larger hole in the top right-hand corner. Do you think it's the wrong cover? Where's the best place to get hold of the proper screws/fasteners that are used to attach the bodywork, the piece of plastic that keeps the air filter in place and the air box cover, and a sidestand? Cheers,

    Which Oil

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Pardon my ignorance but does 75:1 mean 75ml of oil to 1 litre of fuel, therefore 375ml to 5 litres? Or 1ml of oil for every 75ml of fuel? Cheers,

    Which Oil

Hi, Just bought a 2000 Rev 3 270 which has just had a complete engine rebuild. Should I use synthetic oil for the first couple of hours? If yes which type and at what mixture? I've got Plutline that I use on my KTM, is that OK? After the first couple of hours what oil do you recommend then, and at what mixture? Also what gear box oild does anyone recommend? Finally, what's the torque setting on the gearbox drain bolt? Sorry for all the questions. Cheers,

    Piston Change

Hi, Thanks for the replies. Regarding your 2001 model - sounds good but, I'm in Derbyshire and really after a bike locally that's easy to look at and get home. Cheers,

    Piston Change

Hi, I've found a Rev 3 that I'm interested. It's had it's bottom end overhauled last year but it didn't have a new piston as it didn't need it. It goes OK but even the owner admits it that now it could do with a new piston. It also needs a new rear tyre and a set of wheel bearings. He wants

Hi, Can anyone tell me if there are any clubs and practice areas for a novice in Derbyshire; especially around the Ashbourne area? Cheers,

    2001 Beta Rev 3

Hi, I'm going to look at one of these on Sunday that's just had a top-end rebuild. Bloke says that when it's been stood for a while the water pump can take a while to get going and is a little 'noisy' at first. Is this correct, or is he trying to hide a problem? Cheers,

    Fantic 240

Hi, I'm going to look at a 240 this weekend, and wonder if there is anything I should look out for in particular on the bike. I've trawled this forum and realised I should have a look at the mounting of the rear end on the back of the engine, but is there anything else? Thanks,

    Which Bike

Hi, I'm just about to get my frist trials bike after green laning for some years. I've decided on a Scorpa, but which one? I'm a novice; 12 stone in weight. I had fancied a long rider but wasn't sure. Are they easy to work on/service? Cheers,
  16. Hi, Thanks to everyone for replying. Much appreciated. I live between Derby and Ashbourne in a place called Longford (HRC 2002). Cheers,
  17. Hi, I'm a new found convert to the sport and would like to take it up. Apart from the obvious method of just buying a bike and practising somewhere on my own, are there any schools around that run courses, or riders that offer one-on-one tuition. I live in the Derbyshire area. Cheers,
