  1. Hi, does anyone know if anyone makes an after market electronic ignition kit for a Minarelli engined 200 Fantic? Thanks.
  2. Thanks, looks like I'll have to get the cheque book out again.
  3. HI, I've just restored a Montesa cota 349 (White wonder model). Now I know they weren't the best handling bike but the MH349 was much better. Does any one know if the steering head angle was changed on the MH or was it just down to the banana swingarm? I know the MH had welded stuts on the frame as apposed to bolt on ones but I can't see why this would make any difference unless the engine had been moved to a different position. Thanks in advance.
  4. Hi and seasons greetings to all. Does anyone have any opinions as to whether Pirelli trials tyres are any good? I've recently bought a Ts with what look like new tyres on it, MT13 rear and MT43 front. I useually use IRC and the Pirelli's do feel a harder compound. Any thoughts? Cheers
  5. Hi,how do you watch the vids? on my computer nothing comes up to click onto. Got it sorted now . Great vids and fantastic skill, shows what can be done without bunny hopping the bike.
  6. Thanks for the info chaps.
  7. Hi, I've been told that a DT 175mx barrel fits straight onto a TY 175 and gives it more power due to the porting. Has anyone done this and if so is it a worth while mod? I've also been told that a lot of people used to lengthen the swing arm by an inch or so to help keep the front end down, does this work and does it affect the steering in any way? Thanks in advance.
  8. Hi,have had a look at Craigs web site. Do you mean "Magicals" suspension parts as these are the only ones I can see on there? Thanks.
  9. Hmm both I guess, what mods would you do to a TY?
  10. Hi, just a thought but other than kudos and styling do the Majesty/Whitehawk 175/200 bikes offer anything over and above a well sorted standard ty and are they worth the extra premium they fetch? Thanks in advance.
  11. Thanks for the replies, as I suspected there are pro's and cons. Guess its a case of suck it and see, if I can get a cheap pair I'll give them a go.
  12. Hi, have just removed the primary drive gear off a 247cota which was a real struggle, the amount of pressure and heat required was incredible, can anyone tell me if this is normal on these bikes? Thanks.
  13. Hi,can anyone give me their opinion on wether its worth putting Ty250 forks/yolks onto a Ty175, are there any advantages/disadvantages in doing so? Thanks.
  14. Hi, I was just wondering how a 200cota compares to the likes of a fantic 200 or a ty175 for power, rideability, reliability etc, any issues with them or are they a decent bike? Cheers.
  15. Here's the carb settings for a 349 cota with a 28mm Oko carb Main jet 110 (Keihin) Pilot jet 38 (Keihin) JJH needle (middle groove) No 5 slide Also worth checking float bowl height, (should be 19mm) These settings were kindly sent to me from a chap who Knows a lot about 349 cota's I hav'nt had chance to try these setings out myself yet as the bike is now in bits having a referb. Knowing how thorough this chap is It should give anyone a good "benchmark" setting to start from, let me know how you get on.
  16. I've just bought a brand new 28mm Oko from a scooter shop for
  17. Your correct in thinking it should be an amal carb I have a 349 cota and they come fitted with a mk11 2627 concentric, I believe your bike would be fitted with the same but not absolutely sure. Strangely enough I was going to ask the same Question. If a carb is jetted up correctly for a given bike is any one carb better than another? I have been told that Amal carbs are no good as they are worn out after Six months, is this correct or is someone just trying to sell me a carb? Lets hope we both get some answers to our quetions.
  18. Thanks for the information, have now got it sorted. Cheers.
  19. Hi, can anyone give me an indepth way of setting up the timing and points gap on a 349cota? thanks.
  20. Thanks for the reply Woody, I understand factory bikes could vary quite considerably from production bikes but there must of been centre/national riders getting good results on shop bought bikes. My knowledge and memory arn't good eneough to remember and as you say they would of been doing sections that I would'nt dream of doing on a modern bike.
  21. Hi, I'm thinking of restoring an early 80's cota349, most people I talk to about 349's don't rate them for various reasons. Now I know there are more competative bikes out there ( Fantics, Majesty's, etc ) and I realise trials have changed somewhat, but will a well sorted "standard" 349 make a decent trials bike for twinshock type events? I'm not interested in faffing about changing frame geometry and footpeg positions to make it better. In 1980 Ulf Karlson won the worlds trial championship on One they can't be that bad can they? Any thoughts lads? Cheers.
  22. Personally I would go for a ty175, there are lots of original parts still available and loads of after market stuff, anything you can't buy new you can pick up on fleabay as there's always someone selling second hand bits. Not only that with a few sensible mods they make a very competetive twinshock and unless your a Billy Bunter have more than enough power to cope.
  23. Thanks but no thanks, running out of space, have all ready got a Japanese, Sweede, Italian and now a Spaniard in my garage and knowing how tempermental they are ( my wifes Spanish ) I think one's enough.
