  1. Here's a pic of the actual finished product on the Fantic with top guard on, but as others have said, this does not seem to be a problem due to the rotation. Even the modern day GG/Beta/Sherco have little to no guarding on top of the chain, but all have some form of protection on the bottom chain rung leading into the sprocket. Most of us here in Oz simply use something like that kitchen nylon cutting board stuff cable tied to the swingarm or brake stay and that seems to keep the scrutineers happy, we're simply doing what our rule book stipulates.

  2. Just wanted to show off my shark fin I fitted to my 1984 Fantic 300, as oz thumper stated this is mandatory here in Australia for competition use. It's a right sided modern Beta fin bolted to a 5mm alloy bracket I made which has been Tig welded to the existing alloy Fantic rear brake stay. It almost looks like it's meant to be there. This is what we have to do in Australia.

  3. first trial with the new muffler on sunday, im pleased with the result. felt more snappy from idle to quater throttle.

I like what you've done there Matt, have you ridden it some more since your last post and if so are you still happy with the mods. I want to do a similar thing to my Fantic 300, but don't want to increase the noise.

  4. Hey all, just purchased a 2015 GasGas second hand and I've got some questions I'm struggling to find the answers too.

    1. Torque specs, do any more exist that what is in the manual?
    2. What is the stock distance the forks should protrude out of the top triple clamp? (the black portion)
    3. How simple is changing the oil in the forks?

    Thanks all!

Hi jml, I see your in NSW, contact Paul Arnott from the Hell Team in Sydney, he will answer all your questions, he knows gassers better than most. Changing the oil in the right rebound leg can be a bit complex the 1st time. Paul had a step by step procedure of this somewhere on the net, can't find it at present.

  5. If it was me, I'd buy a new Dellorto PHBL 25 BS from someone like Eurocarb and ask them to jet it to your/Fantics specs. Assuming you have an owners manual, all those jetting specs will be in there. If you don't here's a list of what I know....................

    slide- N50.

    needle- D33.

    needle jet- AQ268.

    main jet- 98.

    pilot jet- 44.

    idle/start jet-70.

    choke jet- 60.

    needle valve- 200.

    floats- 90102, 8.3 grams.

My thoughts were that with this setup it would be the same as it left the Fantic factory back in the day and should run well straight off the bat plus you can still run the std air box set up. If you were to run an OKO, which I'm told are fine carbs, you would probably have to spend a fair bit of time fine tuning it with different jets and needles to find the best for the  240 plus you got the air filter/box issue. I'm going to add a link to eurocarb, sorry if that's frowned upon, but I've had very good service from them recently, less than 1 week for parts from the UK to Australia.

  6. I've just bought the above bike in very nice original condition, about the only thing missing is a manual.

Can anyone help me with either a "user manual" or "parts manual". Preferably both, I have already tried google but came up with nothing that I could download, I don't expect them for free either but just unsure where I can buy them from. Any advice appreciated.

  7. Here's a couple of links to Amal UK with the original jetting specs for MAR's 71/72 and 73/74.

    http://amalcarb.co.uk/carbspec/carburettor/spares/id/5503/     (627/416)

    http://amalcarb.co.uk/carbspec/carburettor/spares/id/5504/    (627/422)

As others have stated, the 429 designates what jetting Spain installed and I can't find it on the Amal UK site.

I would jet to 422 specs for a MAR 250 and work from there.

  8. Awesome! What did Mick think of the 349?

Yes, I don't agree with unnecessary mods to a frame that is already quite good from all reports. I'll be checking for that screw under the gear lever when I see it in the flesh in about a week or so.

It's summer here at the moment and their is some beautiful beaches between me and the 800k south to where this bike is, we're going to make a holiday /road trip out of the journey.

  9. Pic of left side. The bike is not in my possession yet, I've got to drive about 800km south in the next week or two to pick it up. I also believe that the frame has been painted red by a previous owner,( not the bloke I've bought it from), because of the modified footpeg mounts, also note someones attempt to save weight by drilling holes in everything!

  10. I've just purchased a 349/4 I think, frame & engine numbers are 51M26134. The reason I say 'think', is because it has a red frame/guards/fork legs making it appear like it could be a 350. I intend to restore it to its original look (not concourse/showroom condition). So, does anyone know what model it might be from that frame/engine number? I know there is little difference between the two models other then colour of guards and fork legs. I'm also after any manuals for these models, either parts or workshop manuals. I've tried googling 349 manuals but only come up with stuff for the earlier 349's. Any help appreciated.

  11. Alot of the 349 Cota's for sale here in Australia have cracked front hubs, seems like they must have have been a weak point. If so what was the fix? They are a good looking model that 349/4, they hark back to the 1970's models in my opinion.

Any advice on where to find parts is greatly appreciated.

  12. I'm also after a new rear axle for a mk2, one of those spindly 12mm jobs. Anyone know where to find one? My bike has an extra bearing spacer kit and flat sprocket fitted by a previous owner and the axle is only slightly bent but the thread is very sad looking.

From what I've read here on older posts Steve Sells does Ossa stuff as a sideline/hobby business and can be difficult to contact, could someone possibly PM me his email address?
