  1. Yes, I know its an old 'ern but their is one local'ish to me for sale at a reasonable price.

From what I remember they were a sound well built bike in their day befoe the early Pro's?

Anything other than the usual for an old bike to look for?

It's only for an occasional use for when the SWM is being fettled so not expecting great shakes.

I should add maybe a 2001? It's only what I think it is, nothing in ad'! See picture.

    many thanks guys

  2. Pulling the trigger on a new rear tyre, my riding buddy tells me I should go for a IRC locally at £75 inclusive.

Are they OK on SWM standard rims?

Currently running a 4 year old Michelin, that's hard as nails, which has never sat right on the rim properly, one side is always higher than the other no matter how many times we fit the tyre so I look like (yes, I know and ride like!) Coco the Clown

  3. I wore my enduro helmet all day at Corten Trials Park today. I had been wearing it whilst practicing in my woods but Corten was the big test for me. I now don't think about it being odd.

DIdn't get any hotter than if I'd worn my open face and with the nasty lumps of concrete they have at Corten, I gota say I felt a tad more comfortable in the super slippery conditions.

As for vision, not an issue....one might say if you are looking down where the chin guard is maybe you should be looking further up the section.

I've purchase a Six Six One helmet as in the start of the thread as its 50% lighter with more vents so I'll chime back when I've tried that.

Its all a very personal thing but I can't see my self going back to open face at the moment.

    hope this helps

  4. Been at Corten Trials Park today and it was cold, frost on ground when we left home. It also rained on and off all day. I bought some black Wulfsport neoprene trials gloves and this was the first time I used them.

Toasty warm hands and fingers all day, thin enough not to notice them. I really suffer from the cold although on the plus side I can sit out in 42c all day lounging around. ;)

I bought large as my hands are 10cm across the palm and they fit correctly.

Excellent purchase for £18, wish I'd bought some years ago.

Tried everywhere for grey but not around in large and Wulfsport are dropping the grey according to my supplier...?

  5. Lots of compression = engine in good fettle.

One way to easier kicking is to slowly ease her past top dead centre (piston at top of stroke) and then kick her over smartly.

A lots of beefy adults struggle to kick a decent trials bike over....the short kickstarts dont help.

My SWM has a decompressor which I wouldn't be without now, but modern bikes dont have this feature.

  6. Just been out for a quick pootle about in my woods...very lucky in the that respect.

Been practicing very slow/stopping/start tight turns and when (it's never 'if' with me ) we go off balance, its always the inside foot that goes down. I've even tried to force myself to over balance on outside foot but my head just can't do it.

....I know the bike wants to fall 'into' the inside due to the physics, but then I should be allowing for this with my balance, but, I never over balance to the outside.

  7. not a bad choice as it happens. We used to do the green lanes, find some silly hill climbs etc around Kent. One evening during a very muddy spell one of the guys Pumpkins had blown up or something had broken as usual and he took his Climber....well it turns out he was waiting around most of time for the rest of the guys to catch up. :guinness:

  8. I've seen a Nickel plated Sherpa before, a long time ago at a trial in Cliffe Marshes In Kent....mid to late 70's.

I remember the particular bike as my friend's father had it done as a favour at a platers down in Dover. Part of a job lot for Marconi's (or Elliotts Aviation as it was?).The guy wanted the frame chromed but the platers talked him out of it saying this could make the frame brittle and suggested Nickel as being better engineering solution.

hmm....I can still smell the platers and the picture the sight of hundreds of ping pong balls floating on top of the tanks....I think we used to go to tarmac hill climb down that way, cars mainly but a few bikes too.

...I'm amazed I remember all that, but I'm shallow and always liked shiny bright things....this is one of my gixers's
