  2. I have had my 280 Gasgas for 2 months now and it has just broke the handlebar base clamp (broke through pivot point) apparently this is a regular problem with these up and over type clamps for the fat bars without cross piece. So
  3. I was asked by a friend to try and weld up his clutch cover which was cracked. I am usually ok at aluminium welding, but this would not weld up at all, anyone know why not. Is is not aluminium. Case is off '05 Gasser.

  7. Think you are right, I am knocking up a chain guard out of stainless steel - cheers.
  8. No , do not think it is chain as it is too high up the boot, level with top of protector.
  9. I have Gasgas 280 txt 02 and while cleaning my boots I noticed they are wearing through where rubbing on frame protectors, on inside of leg! Has anyone else had this problem or is it my riding style (stance). Have taken off plastic protector and moved gear lever down a notch on splines now to see if this helps. Can this hole be repaired by a cobbler if it gets too bad and leaks through.
  10. Just bought some new boots, what is best way to care for them. Have just been washing them down and leaving to dry - polish or dubbin to be applied?
  11. Thanks for that Ferretflasher, fully answered my query.

  13. Got a handlebar end in my ribs when jumping off rock step 3 weeks ago and it is still keeping me off my bike. Anyone else had such an injury and how long did you take to recover. General opinion is I have cracked a rib.
  14. This happened to me on a Gas Gas that I bought, don't know if they are the same on the Montesa. Adjusters work by slots clicking on a tiny ball bearing which is spring loaded by, yes you guessed it a tiny spring. On my bike the spring was jammed up with gunk, a tiny grub screw in the side of fork leg top nut is undone to get at this - I had fork legs out as was replacing oil as well. As for the small screw at bottom of leg, I think this can be used to drain legs - pump out old oil.
  15. What type of difference do these carbs make?
  16. Can anyone tell me exactly what difference this type of throttle gives you and how does it work - cheers.
  17. Have just fitted a new tyre, fairly easy task. But cannot get tyre to seat correctly - have got plenty of washing up liquid on and blown to 40 psi twice. Please help, should i blow it up past 40?
  18. I have a Gas Gas txt 280, am new to trials and my mate has a Beta Techno 250.
  19. Come on someone can I have an answer to my question?
  20. How much does a tyre have to lose its edge before grip in muddy conditions is affected. My back Michelin has about 3mm radius on front of knobbles and just doesn't grip in mud, unlike my mates beta with new Dunlop fitted.
  21. Forgot to mention that I used light 5w fork oil
  22. Just done mine Ali, pretty easy job to do. Undo top clamps on both fork legs and crack off both big nuts (don't undo yet)- don't try to undo nuts without undoing top clamps!.Front wheel off and take out fork legs one at a time. Undo top nut fully and tip out old oil from leg, next undo allen bolt in bottom of leg (this lets you seperate both parts of leg)remove dust covers carefully - I used mine again but you could replace these if you want.Next step is to remove wire clip that is on top of seal, with a terminal screwdriver, then pull sharply on both ends of leg this dislodges and finally brings out seal and top of leg. That last step may take a few tries as seals are obviously good fit, thoroughly drain out all old oil then assemble leg tightening allen bolt up in bottom of leg.Cut corner off plastic jiffy bag and put over top stanchion, oil up seal and push onto leg over bag (bag stops seal damage). The final fitting required the use of a piece of long pipe to drive seal into final position, pipe ensures hitting seal on its outer diameter and not damaging working faces.Refit wire clip and dust seal and fill with 300ml of fork oil.Tighten top nut by hand, when both legs back in yolks tighten bottom clamps, then tighten top nuts fully, then lock up top clamps. How about that for a comprehensive answer to your question.
  23. Hope those forks aren't really that bent under those gaiters!
