  3. My riding buddy has an oil leak from seal behind the front sprocket, on his 2005 gas gas 280, obviously he wants to change it. Is there an easy way to get the seal out without doing any damage to engine casing? cheers in advance.

    Clutch Slip

Alright Davet, I had this problem with mine, tried filing clutch basket to stop plates sticking in grooves and changing fluid and bleeding, all to varying degrees of success. In the end, upon close inspection of the discs I found that the fibre on some of them was breaking down and peeling off, so the only solution was a new clutch pack which has solved the problem fully now. So I think you may be experiencing similar problems, hope you get sorted as it is annoying and makes you tired holding bike back all the time.
  5. Just been given a second hand Hebo helmet, but needs two of the peak screws replacing (broken off) does anyone know where i can get screws from. Had a quick net search but no joy-cheers anyone.
  6. Just replaced them on my mates Gas Gas, cost for bearings and gaskets was over
  7. Cheers Curt, looks like nothing to worry about, thanks for your info.
  8. This was replaced about a year ago and still looks as new.
  9. Never tried to engage any gears, was only checked in neutral. Pulling clutch basket up and down seemed to produce same knocking heard when all was assembled and running.
  10. Update on Knocking Pro, we had a good listen to bike and knocking noise seems to be coming from clutch area, also noise changes when the clutch is pulled in-but knocking noise still slightly evident. When we tipped bike on its side and took off side casing we noticed that we could lift basket of cluch up and down (may be 0.3mm movement) even though centre screw was tight. Should this movement be there and if not how can it be repaired.

  12. We fitted new mains bearings in my mates Gas Gas pro 250 as he said it was knocking, he has just finished rebuilding it and started it for the first time-but he says it is still knocking! I have not been to see it yet but what else could it be? Little end bearings were ok, we checked for any up and down play there. Could it be piston/rings? Help please we just want to get out on bikes again.
  13. Which is the right way round for teflon seal?
  14. We are going to refit main bearings in friends bike tomorrow, I seem to remember something about bearing on flywheel side having to line up with an oil feed hole. Which hole does it line up with and how do we make sure they line up when bearing is tapped in?-cheers.
  15. It was the wide bearing with seals, how can we test crankshaft to see if its ok?
  16. Just finished stripping my mates bike down with him, to replace the main bearings and seals for the second time in 6 months. Both times it has been the bearing on the flywheel side that has gone. When we took off flywheel cover we noticed liquid inside it which looked like engine oil and water, could the problem be that this plastic cover is not sealing properly and letting water in and then this is somehow getting into the bearing. We have been told that these bearings usually need replacing after 6 months, but surely they must last longer than that. Bearings and seals were bought direct from Gas Gas so were genuine articles. Anyone had similar troubles, or could shed more light on the subject, any help appreciated-cheers.
  17. I am having real bother using clutch lever with one finger, but when I use two i feel that I have not got enough control of the bars. When in a section I find myself worrying more about how many fingers to use on lever than on the section. Is there anything I can do to lighten the action, I fitted a new clutch pack a year ago and it is bled nicely. Is it possible to remove a couple of the springs from the clutch or maybe longer levers. Help anyone , to stop my finger hurting-cheers.
  18. Just been out for practice, and stopped bike after an hours riding, using kill switch, but when I went to start it again it would not even try to fire up. Took plug out to try see if sparking against head, but no spark at all. Tried disconnecting kill switch altogether but this made no difference, still no visible sparking at plug when kicking it over? Was completely dry today so water can be ruled out and bike was running perfectly fine before I stopped it. Spoilt my day really, anyone help with what I should be checking next. Oh I also tried a spare plug but this didn't spark either-help wanted cheers.
  19. Great magazine and article, especially good for free.
  20. Anyone had any trouble with their carburettor freezing up, went out practicing with my mate the other day and his bike was running badly. We noticed carb was frozen up (was pretty cold that day) after adjusting the air screw a couple of times, bike seemed to run ok and was warmed up by then. I have an '02 edition and nothing like this has happened to mine.
  21. I am replacing main bearings on my friends Pro, but can't get crankshaft out of primary gear side of engine. Have taken circlip off and tried to knock it out, but no joy. can anyone help? cheers
  22. Yes Mark did finish on the old Bultaco, watched him through last section, great work nice to see an old bike make it to the end.
  23. Just got back from Nord Vue, where the Briish Experts trial took place, and I had a really great day. Graham Jarvis has sorted some awesome sections, blending natural areas of the quarry with manmade sections, and all sections were very challenging. Dougie won with Michael Brown second and Dabil third. Bit of a scare for us all when dougie tried section 13 on lap 2 ( which had 2 vertical climbs of about 12 feet) and failed to reach top of second one. His father was shouting about his injured eye while still holding onto Dougie's bike, looked like handlebar had hit him above the eye, when a medic eventually came there was quite a bit of blood to be seen good job it missed his eye.Not much of a crowd there today and all sections were easily seen and not too far to walk between them. Will be a cracking venue for the world round next year if it comes about, well done all invlved.
