  1. I have a 2014 300 Pro Racing and last week I tried the clutch action on a 2019 300. It was soooo much lighter! Seems they have a thinner spring which I guess is the reason it's so light. Also has the adjustable clutch. Anyone know if there are any other differences and if it's possible to change my 2014 clutch to be the same as the 2019? I have arm issues (compartment syndrome) and the lighter the lever action the better for me. Thanks.
  2. My money is on sheared flywheel key. I had exactly what you describe and that's what it was.
  3. Just to say thanks for all the help and guidance. New kickstart gear, idler gear, kickstart spring and clutch cover all fitted and the bike is running perfectly again. Didn't even need to bleed the clutch. Treated her to some new levers while I was at it too.
  4. It's 3.5 times the price so it ought to be.
  5. Finally found time to remove the kickstart shaft. Now, I've seen that you need to key the gear on the shaft etc so I compared my shaft to pictures I found online. Mine is well off by the look of it (picture attached) and I think it needs a new spring too. Am I right or am I looking at it wrong?
  6. Well, here's a turn up. I did a search looking for GasGas engine casings for sale and when I look at the pictures, even brand new ones, they all have that hole! Attached is a photo of a new one and if you zoom in you'll see what I mean. You learn something new every day. You can only see it when you take the clutch basket off so guess that's why you wouldn't normally see it.
  7. Well, I drained the oil out and there was part of a gear tooth attached to the metal sump plug. Looks like it's off the idler gear so that's good. Once it's all back together I'll top up the oil and drain it again to see if anything else comes out. Think I'll tip the bike upside down and see if that bit of casing appears. Might also buy a little endoscope type thing to look inside, just to be safe. No idea how something like that would happen. Must take a fair bit of force. Thanks for all your input. For all it's faults, it is a great bike to ride. I just seem to click with the GasGas. I've tried all makes and the GasGas always feels just right for me. Every time I've tried a Beta for example they just feel wrong, even before I've tried riding a section. No idea why.
  8. While I had the clutch cover off and the clutch out I noticed a hole in the engine case as per the attached photo. Now, given the bike was running fine after the clutch cover cracked i can't believe this is a result of that. In which case, the bike has been running great so I'm inclined to think it's not an issue. However, what are people's thoughts? Where would this hole even go? Maybe why the previous owner sold it? I've had it 2 1/2 years.
  9. Really? There's bits missing off some teeth.
  10. I took a quick video of the play on the kickstart shaft as well but i can't seem to upload it. Says i can only upload 19.87mb even though the video is only 14mb. Given everything else I'm having to replace, am I as well to replace the kickstart shaft holder bearing? Is it easy to do?
  11. Here's a pic I took as I had half an hour to take a quick look. As you can see, damaged teeth on the idler gear. In the other photo, I think I can just about see a bit of damage on the first tooth of the kickstart gear too. So it's going to be a very expensive repair.
  12. It's to stop the pads rattling. It's just an anti rattle spring. The pads can't come out of the caliper with or without the spring (while the wheel is in). I've been running without mine in for a few months as I struggled to get it back in. No issues with braking but sometimes the pads do rattle slightly if I'm waiting to go in a section with the engine running.
  13. Will post a pic as soon as I get a chance to pull it apart. So the kickstart shaft just pulls out complete? Do I need to remove the idler gear first and if so how does this come off? I'm sure some of this will become obvious when I take it apart but I'd rather know in advance. My thoughts exactly. If I'm getting a new clutch cover I may as well get a new glass. Thought I may as well while I'm swapping the cover for a new one, along with sight glass and kickstart seal. What do I need to do re the clutch swap over? What's the best way of avoiding air in the hose and the best way to bleed after? Thanks again all.
  14. OK. I'll check. However, when I first saw the oil dripping out it looked like it was coming from the bottom of the casing so I initially assumed the bolts had worked slightly loose. So, I gave them a little tighten and started the bike again. It started no problem so I'm not sure there is an issue with the kickstart gear. The kickstart shaft does wobble around with the casing off but that's normal isn't it? How much play should there be? Also, is it an easy job to get the shaft etc off or will I need any special tools/send it to a workshop? Feels like it will just pull out but I didn't want to lose anything in the grass so I didn't. now it's in the garage I'll take a closer look. Thanks all.
  15. So after driving an hour to a trial today, first kick and the clutch cover cracked around the kickstart shaft! Bike is a 2014 300 Racing. I'll be ordering a new cover, sight glass and water pump seal. Is there anything else I need to replace and what's the process re replacement (especially with respect to clutch and minimising air in the system)? Also, is it likely just fatigue or should I be looking for another cause? Thanks all.
  16. Thanks. Also, any tips for holding new head o rings in place while refitting?
  17. I've removed the head on my 2014 300 Racing GasGas as I suspect he o rings were leaking. The head is very black and coke up (see attached). What's the best way to clean it? Top of the piston is also black - is it possie to clean that without taking anything else apart as I don't really have time to do that. Thanks.

Compare the GasGas to the new kids on the block (JGAS, Vertigo and TRS) and you can see why GasGas haven't changed anything substantial for a long time. The engines already pretty small and the frame pretty minimal. Not really sure how they can improve without going completely radical, and that didn't work out too well for Ossa.
  19. Think I had a 320 once that was blue?
  20. Kev - would it be possible to share on here please? Thanks.
