  1. Take your own bike on an experience day, the instructions are a mine of information.
  2. Go up to inch perfect for the day, great fun, pretty cheap on your own bike. I'm doing the next Manchester 17 Dead easy on the 31st of March, be good to meet up!
  3. I started at 56, just a year ago, I'm crap and always Will be. Doesn't matter, it's fun!
  4. Hi and welcome to the forum! Whereabouts are you? I'm based in Warrington and its normally an hours drive for anywhere to practice. Whitewell Farm is pretty good and only 9 quid for the day, Did my first trial a couple of weeks ago and they are a really friendly bunch. Manchester 17 club have a dead easy trial on the Easter Saturday, I believe it's near Buxton, they have a pretty good website too. Only other advice I can give is don't practice alone, it's more fun and safer with a partner.
  5. I'll try and post a photo tomorrow, even if it's a cast in liner I need to do something. ?
  6. Just spoke to in motion, apparently the brake surface was just chromed in the factory. Mine has obviously had a cast iron sleeve fitted in the past and that is almost worn through to the aluminium! Looks like I'm going to have to bore it out and re line the hub, I'll repair the bearing diameter at the same time. It'll keep me off the streets! I'll let you guys know how it goes....
  7. Cheers! I'll be out all day cod fishing so I'll not get into the garage till tomorrow morning, I'm hoping I'll get away with just skimming the drum now....?
  8. Thanks Woody, I'll look it up, failing any information I'll have to try common sense...?
  9. I'll brave the cold garage on Monday and have a measure of the thickness. I Will be occasionally using it on the road so iĺl give it a good clean and inspect it properly. I'll phone up in motion as well... Cheers!
  10. I'll phone him on Monday, I need guidance!?
  11. I'm quite lucky in that I have a lovely big workshop full of metal and stuff to play , I mean work in.?... if it's doable while it's laced up I'm happy to have a crack at it. Great resource this site, Thanks again guys!
  12. Just seen the wheel on eBay Woody, can't believe they have broken the bike, such a shame, it looked good too. Cracking idea about the oversized lining! I'd still like to know the maximum permissible diameter, I have a feeling it's beyond that....
  13. Excellent idea! Never thought about an upgrade. Thanks!
  14. Hi guys, Started to do a few jobs on the bike I purchased a few months ago. I only want it to work, I'm not looking for a show bike... Brakes are non existent, to that end I removed the back wheel, sprocket and backplate. The hub is a bit of a horror story, the bearing on the sprocket side is a rattling fit despite the numerous centre punch dots rained upon it, liner has a big lip of probably 2 to 3 mm and one of the bolts holding the sprocket on has been opened out to M10 or thereabouts. I can repair the bolt holes, I can ally weld and bore the bearing diameter but the liner will be a pain. Anyone have a maximum diameter for the rear drum? I'm hoping I don't need to make a new liner. Also, if all of the above is possible I intend to do it without disassembly of the rim. Am I wasting my time? I really need a manual. (Or is it a Manuel being a Spanish bike?:)) Thanks in advance!
  15. It is indeed a solderless nipple. This forum is amazing! Cheers ?
  16. Went to fit a replacement left side engine cover on my M49 with one I bought on eBay. To my dismay the clutch cable anchor point had been snapped off! Not to be deterred, I filed it flat and machined a block to replace it. Got my mate to fire up his Tig welder and job is a good un! I'm not sure how its meant to look so iĺl try and post a photo. Not sure if it should have a slot in it...
  17. Bound to put the fear of God into a tealeaf!
  18. Big bucket with a solution of laundry liquid, Bold or similar. Worked a treat on mine...
  19. Cheers mate, I'll get googling!
  20. Thanks dicky, i'll have a look at Sheffield and Hallamshire.
  21. I made a few trip mines, using .22 starting pistol blanks. Fishing line attached to stuff that needs moving for access and job's a good'un. Very, very loud! I know it won't necessarily stop a theft but you could follow the brown trail to find the bike.... You can buy ones that use short shotgun blanks but I was advised that it would be overkill.
  22. Did the Manchester 17 Dead easy trial and thoroughly enjoyed it, just wondering if any other clubs in the North of England are running dead easy routes? Cheers all!
  23. My first trial and it was brilliant, such a friendly bunch. The sections were pitched perfectly for me, really brought me on, can't wait for the next one....
