  1. Hi Guy's. Hi Andy, Is that who I think It is ?? Regards to you and him Charlie.
  2. Hi Guys, Just about to do the gear swop, and had lost the diagram, need to look no further now thank Smelling. Last time I messed with gears I lost some skin on a sharp one or two so be careful. Regards Charlie. PS works now Andy, just need to log on and off????
  3. Hi Guy's. Hi TT, If you are going to put your self forward to write up "Rules" you need to do it now, not Waite a year. Initially you could post them onto here,OK Then take a set up to OTF and help him lay out a coarse on the wet Saturday before his next Trial. In the mean time ,I would spend a few hours ringing around every one you know with a bike. And a grievance ,with the way things are, confirm they will all arrive on the day of OTF's ,trial, and you will need at least ,twenty ,with a few Observers as well to make it worth while. If that happens you are onto a Winner,OK Send me a copy of your Rules and I will place them onto my website too. Regards Charlie "Proper bikes" care of www.bsaotter.com
  4. Hi Guy's. Firstly I must thank TT Spudfor two days of lively discussion. So what have we gleaned from this? Is there's problem?Arewe letting hundreds of Classic British Trials bikes rot in corners of sheds across the land? Because there is not a trial that is appropriate for these bikes to compete in? Well firstly most of the Classic British Trials bikes I know, are probably kept has an investment. Got outand polished occasionally, with probably there past riders now to old to compete. I do keep getting my ear bent from people that actually think along the same lines as TT but, like me cannot find a simple solution to a problem that most people think does not exist. I think the current trials format of most clubs rules out having these machines compete on a level playing field, along with other so called Pre 65 machines. The answer is, in my mind,to forget a very competitive situation ,and try and get an entry of machines of this nature ,out for a Sunday morning ride, around an old quarry, or forestry land with easy access for both competitors (And I do mean that loosely) and any general public that may be interested in the sight and sound of Historic Classic British Trials bikes. Run the event more has a gymkhana than a fiercely competitive trial. This is just my waffling, but I must admit it has touched. A raw nerve. (Look up motor gymkhana) Regards Charlie.
  5. Hi Guy's. So summing up then. We find that we have been well and truly let down by the sport we profess to love and also, by governing bodies ,that have no balls to do anything about the situation. Individuals that try to work the situation out themselves ,also get no help from anyone in the sport unless this is derogatory . So we have no where to run . we go on as it has been in the past decade, and let history slip gently into the past. Maybe one day we can hobble around a Motorcycle museum with relics of the past displayed, and relate our tales , to the nurse that is helping us to stay on our feet. Or maybe TTSpud could front a new movement, with vast financial baking ,to bring what really should be done in my mind?? And that is bring a National Tour of Classic British Trials Bikes around the country to vast outdoor arenas filled with interested folk that really want to see a live show of the British past of the Classic British Four Stroke Trials bike. Just has I dreamed of!!!!! Not going to happen though is it?????? Regards Charlie. :icon_salut: :icon_salut: :icon_salut:
  6. Hi Guy's. Right , One thing that has not been mention'd is the Age of the riders of the "Original Classic British Trials bikes",that we are talking about. I know very few young men that own a Original British Classic Trials bike? (well there is the exepsion ,my grandson ,three now you know). But seriously , I stick with what I have said, you would need a easier route, to get the majority of Classic British trials bikes back out of the shed. Most owner riders are shall we say, Mature, and lugging a 350 lbs bike about for a Sporting trial, is just not on, unless the sections are easy-easy!!! TT, You don't know of the existence of the ACU and AMCA then??? but I think you will find that they do not need to rock the boat, and leave it up to individual Clubs or people like me, to make up there own guidelines for classes, they wish to run. And a question. Could I be allowed to swap my "Jampots" on my 1952 AJS to Girling ones from a 1960 model. just for a better ride. Or would I then have to ride in the "Specials" class?? Regards and I do mean that!! Charlie. !!!!!
  7. Hi Guy's Question!! Do they scrutineer bike closely at the TALMAG nowadays??? Or do you just enter a bike that is appropriate for that trial? The other thing is ,if you ran a class for the type of Classic bike you ride ?unmodified in anyway from the original. The route would have to be total'y different from even the "Old Man's" route at most trials!! Which again would mean more Observers, You can not expect one to run between several routes. And I know how easy the sections would have to be!! Riding our old AJS down a forest track with the forks, topping and bottoming, showed me how simple the sections need to be. Totally OK if this is the class of bike you are catering for. But not good just adding a class at any trial. Extra time setting out these sections, hopefully finding the extra Observers, And then ten bikes turning up for this class!! you do the maths. Regards Charlie.
  8. Hi Guy's Hi TT, Look I feel that any club unless they are four-stroke only are not going to want the hassle of another class attached to there trial. It has just been said one of the major problems seems to be getting enough Observers, now a days . Unless it is a specific trial for this type of machine, I can't see it going anywhere unfortunately . Realisticly , there is just to much chaff in the mix of four-stroke trials bikes nowadays, for anyone to segregate the real thing. so this in it's self is the major problem. Regards Charlie .
  9. Hi Guy's . Hi TT Spud. Look just type in ClassicTrials Show, into the search box at the top of the page. OK, You can now see how difficult it is to try and organise an event, and to make it acceptable, for everyone. We know the format we had for this event would work, and it did. not just a Trial but a weekend of Fun. The ONE problem is that, for some unknown reason riders do not want to tip there toe into the Fun, until they have seen one or two years, of an overflowing entry for any event. so just stop away. How do you cure this??? so that it is worth while organising an event, for the proscribed Classic Trials Four Stroke Machines. It is not easy organising anything, but when you are banging your head against a wall Give up before it starts to hurt, and your pocket runs dry. You get me a garenteed entry of 150 bikes and I would do it again. but not with out this, and has I say we know there is that number out there ,and would ride if they plucked up the courage to send an entry, Regards Charlie. www.bsaotter.com. and "Proper Bikes" And Chinese Engined Super Cub Trials "Mini Otter". with Japanese front and rear hubs. And frame made in "Britain".
  10. Hi Guys, Ensign 400x19 trials tyres are available along with tubes etc!!! Perhaps this should be a stipulation to any class ? That these tyres should be used?? Look you know where I stand on this subject!! And have done my best , and spent a considerable ,amount of time and money. Trying to revive a Class of trial for this type of Four Stroke Trials bike. ? And there is no need for it to be extreamly l competitive . But every time I have asked for a show of hands for a return of this event, I get Nothing. I know we are only a few on this web site , so can only expect a few to confirm. But I spent four months phoning competitors personally, trying to get an entry for the event.then having to compromise at the last minute ,to get an entry big enough ,to put on a show. So what is the point in trying to even think about setting up even one trial ,let alone a series, when you get this reaction?? What makes it much more annoying is the fact that we know riders and machines are out there for what could be a brilliant event, with the side shows ETC . If every one that was at the TALMAG this last week end for instance entered . Then you would have a unbelievable event in the summer months. But has I say No response !! Ah well. Regards Charlie "Proper Bikes". And the Chinese engined Super Cub Trials "Mini Otter".
  11. Hi Guys. Just take a look at the last picture, of five Pre 65 !!!! Bikes look at the vid and then tell me we don't want more of this for the rest of the year, Come on the time is right don't you think ??? Now they have been out of the shed once this year ,keep Um out. If you are interested ??? I am sure some of us would be Intrested in doing something about it!!! The Deryk Wylde series perhaps??? Speak up now OK. Regards Charlie, Proper Bikes.
  12. Hi Guy's. Hi Jon, Not good when the weather is bad, is it, It is a shame about the date, You are only lucky to get one good Crisp January in five. so I am told. "Best selection of Proper bikes" in one place Yes. What we need is more trials like this throughout the year?? Don't you think? Tell me this, what happens to the entry of these bikes for the rest of the year??? It always intreages me. Seems as a lot of them only do this one trial a year? bikes that is. am I wrong? Regards Charlie bsaotter.com "And Proper bikes".
  13. Hi Guy's. Deryk, You are totally right with what you say, But I cant find the comments from Dave, sorry "Woody" above that you have, had to make your reply to. I think you will find that Dave ,Sorry "Woody" thinks along similar lines as we do. Or am I missing something ??? Regards Charlie. www.bsaotter.com
  14. Hi Guy's Pheonix from the ashes, May be the term. But with a response by you lot, may mean that Deryk will again publish Off Road Review in an E format probably on Kindle. So if you are interested give the guy a show of hands. They will be a reference to any bike you may want to buy, rebuild etc, or just want to know a little bit about the make of British bike you own and the sporting history of the machine. He will only go ahead with the idea I am sure, only if he thinks it is worth while with the interest shown. You decide!!! Regards Charlie. wwww.bsaotter.com
  15. Hi GUYS Don't be unfair ,it lOOKS like AG has been up all night with his bad wisdom teeth? Like me!! Must get them Pulled like this page should be???? Regards Charlie.
  16. Hi Gy's Hi OTF. Yes we all know the BSA Bantam only had three forward gears up until late 1966, that is unless they supplied , four speed versions to anyone living North of the Border??? without telling us. It might have been to help the telegraph boys, to get messages to people up there quicker???? Dont think it has happened though do you?? Regards Charlie. www.bsaotter.com
  17. Hi Guys Hi OTF Read my latest page on my web site. I had the first Cub out of the factory, 1963 OK. With side points. French Army had Square Barrels on there Cubs in 1964.OK. They should all be 199cc though don't you think??? And suffer with that abysmal energy transfer ignition!!!!!!!!??? Regards Charlie....www.bsaotter.com
  18. Hi Guy's Deryk and Sparks2. This was one of the first trials awards I won along with the "Jack Wright" Rose bowl. A copy of Max Kings Trials Riding. I have it in front of me, now with strips of masking tape down the spine. because of the use the little book has had over the years. It also has news paper cuttings inside of a picture in the local paper at the time of me being presented with this award. I will pass the little book onto my Grand sons and hope they will still use it when they are old enough. I will put the picture onto my web site. today. Happy Days. Regards Charlie. www.bsaotter.com
  19. Hi Guys. Thanks once again Deryk. I still recon this bike could still be about somewhere ??? Do we care??? Yes we do!!!!!! Part of Trials Bike History. I am Old! With a passion OK. Regards Charlie ,www.bsaotter.com
  20. H Guy's Dont be bitter OTF!! There is a place in this world for everyone, and a place in history for this mode of two wheeled transport. Regards Charlie. www.bsaotter.com . And even a place for one of these , Love Betty????
  21. Hi Guys. Hi Jc2. Thanks mate yes I should have read the first page, long time ago though. Can't believe i'am still here. It would be good if we could find this bike though. If it still exists??? But we have found Brian Martins old works BSA C 15 and it lives not far from me and is owned by a very old friend . We have also found the works BSA trials outfit built by Arthur Pullman And then ridden by the Round brothers to many victories . So if we could find the BSA Tigress ,it would be a hat trick. Regards Charlie. ..www.bsaotter.com
  22. Hi Guy's. Promised I would update this for the link to Deryk.s Ducati page. yesterday. Thought it better to just bring back up this page. Deryk there was four pages and two good pictures of the works bike, in one of the ORR's I have lost my list so will have to go through the lot to find it, unless you have it to hand? Don Morley was the writer. We would still love to know if the works bike still lurks in a dusty shed somewhere ? The chap who bought the bike from Brian Verrall only bought it for the number plate to put onto his sports car. So was the "Works BSA Tigress" scraped or has I say is it in a shed ? Keep-um-peeled as the old saying goes. Regards Charlie www.bsaotter.com
  23. Hi Guy,s. Is that Arthur Walton on the rigid Ariel above?? looks like it might be. regards Charlie.
  24. Hi Guys. Deryk it was a Susan's frame in the picture, The one we have could be a Bartrams , I think the steering head angle is far to slack on our bike, but then ,they always were. Regards Charlie.
  25. Hi Guy's. Dhs. When I next get our Rigid Ariel out of its compound I can take some photos and dimension's for you if you like. Mick Andrews rode it about at the Classic Trials Show. I still think John Bartram may build a rigid frame.try him. Regards Charlie.
