  1. Hi Guy's. Hi Andy. All you are doing by moving the subframe top mount is forcing the swinging arm down by shortning the damper top mounts. This pushes the back of the bike up giving better ground clearance and by tilting the frame forward makes the steering head angle less, so the steering is quicker. Correct? Regards Charlie.
  2. Hi Guys! Just Got this page. Sunbeam RallyCar Best car I have ever driven, still have a mold for a GF bonnet. The wife left just after that and took the car with her! Wow I do miss that car. Regards Charlie
  3. Hi Guys. NO not now OTF, it is not just the time. WE all had dreams way back then! Some of us have had the chance, to try and fulfill them some have not. What we have to do is keep living the dream until the end , and doing our best to achieving this dream? Regards Charlie.
  4. Hi Guy's, Hi OTF, I recon I should join, AA? Do You think, Bessie, and her bruvs are "Classic's"? PS say Hello to his " Majesty" for me. Regards Charlie.
  5. Hi Guys, Just proves a point again, what we are doing to the Classic scene in the UK. No thought is ever given to who is doing what, and one group pulls against another.Like Dave says when it's gone it's gone and it will not return without a lot of work. I am afraid it is the old school ,again running things like it used to be without any thought to the future. Or even the next day. We all know it is time for a change before it is to late, but how do we go about it ? And get you guys to respond??? Regards Charlie.
  6. Hi Guys. Hi Wobbler, That said, if the guy that is supposed to be the villain in this little tale does not reply to the charges against him. How do you know who is in the wrong? And has I have said why oh why should Andy get involved with a dispute that is nothing to do with him. If a trader is in the wrong, this is not the web site, to name and shame him or them. This is aTrials forum site is it not? And not a County court. Keep it real guys. Regards Charlie.
  7. Hi Guy's. Hi, Matt? Just reading through what you have said quickly, It sounds to me as it could be crankcase oil-seals that are at fault? They could well have gone hard and leaking?? Regards Charlie.
  8. Hi Guy's. The main thing about the post is that Trials Central, is Andy's web site , and not a site owned by the people who write and read the forums. I think if on my site, I was named has a dictator, I would take great displeasure. I spend many hours per week, serching out information to place onto my site, and I know Andy must do the same.I know the number of people visiting a web site gains the sites popularity, and yes we use it to comment. But Andy does not draw 2$ from each of us every time we visit the site unlike some. So has I say if he wishes to remove an item it is up to him. Go to the small claims court man, the name will soon get to be common place then. PS Andy just been checking the stats? Did'nt realise how big TC is in Austrailia. Happy Christmas Guy's. Regards Charlie.
  9. Hi Guy's. Hi Andy. Just mailed you mate. Yes and GO for it, we could start something big???? (You never Know unless you give it a go?) Regards Charlie.
  10. Hi Guy, Yes That's what I mean ,just like that bike. This has a Jon Bliss frame? And to buy the tubes £100 max. Wheels and plastics look like they come from a £560 bike and the forks. Engine unit, from one of the cheap mono bikes ,you can buy these units as stand alone too. JH 125 bike parts then ,230 engine, looks like? Yes I have all these parts, when I get time to build the bike up. I also have pit bike hubs £30 each new? Just proves how cheap a bike could be built if there was interest .You do the maths! Perhaps there should be a class for these type of bikes, for the novice first time buyer, and simple sections? I know it has been said before but, we must keep trying. Edit to update. Regards Charlie.
  11. Hi Guys. Hi RT, Hi Mick. Thanks for the info,I will see what turns up this week, and then diced. Mick I will be in touch, next week. You may see I am still having trouble driving the IPad . Regards Charlie.
  12. Hi Guys, Just started to build up my short stroke Ariel 500 now I have a cylinder head ? It was a long wate finding one. Now I need a 86 mm Yamaha XT 350 piston, thought that would be easy to find? Wrong. Does any of you guys know where I can get one from in the UK? I have looking for a week with no luck. Regards Charlie
  13. Hi Guys, Hi Justin, I see you work in Hull, Which is near Yorkshire Classic trials, I would take a look at there web site. For Twinshock take a look at Classic Trials site Southhampton. And You could take a look at my web site, www.bsaotter.com for some ideas. Regards Charlie.
  14. Hi Guy’s. All that is really needed to make the bike regulations a bit clearer is to set out a few more guidelines. For instance we all know that most of the hubs now fitted to most of the bikes that have had a lavish fund afforded to them, will have either new billet or cast hubs mainly to the old BSA/Triumph, Bantam /Cub design. But how close do you look; the back plates always have strengthening ribs on cast alloy backplates, unlike the original steel items. The front fork issue is now taking a further turn, in that copy billet sliders are now being manufactured, where as before there was a lot of work carried out to fit a turned down Spanish or Japanese slider to fit snugly into a BSA AMC or Norton slider. Now we have not, had conformation that these copy forks are allowed in the trial or not, have we. Then there is the issue of BSA/Triumph square barrels. Are the ones fitted to the Tiger Cub Engine allowed in the rules, as these should really be of the oval variety, shouldn’t they. Then are a BSA/Triumph B25/ Tr25 barrel allowed if it is turned down to make it round? And is, it OK to use that then, without a pushrod tunnel. Now frames, the majority of the fund lavished bikes are copies of a Pre 65 design? But are they? Frames that had bolt on subframes should still have these, but should the then subframe look exactly like the bike that came out of the factory at that time, or could it be chopped and clipped like most are now? No real guidance on this mater, (my 1961 BSA C15T from Comerfords in 1962, had a cut down subframe). Then the issue of the angle of the steering head, should this be a long angle like all bikes were at the time? Or should the steep angles now adopted be allowed? We know that any bike (well most, Now) that enter this trial are not Pre 1965 machines. Even most of the engine castings are later than that date, and a lot of these are new. So the stupid situation is that bikes that are used in other great Classic trials are not eligible to enter this one event. For the simple reason that, they were probably built to a lower budget than most of the bikes built especially for the Scottish trial. If you have been to the IOM and seen the bikes competing in that trial, you will know what I mean. I know I am bois but just take a look at the bikes I snapped at this years event, from Spain and other countries, OK I know that they are of the “Otter” design, but don’t you think that these bikes look a lot more “British” than most of the bikes that compete in the Scottish trial? The Bling is not as evident for a start. And as has been said, does anyone care that a Grimeca front and back hub turns up on a few bikes and a lot blatantly use four stud British forks, without any disguise. I could keep on but it is now getting boring. Regards Charlie.
  15. Hi Guys, Thanks Dave, NO need to add to that. Regards Charlie.
  16. Hi Guys. I am glad I am one of the twenty percent, OK. But the few that feel that there blood is boiling over what The Few are saying are missing the point compleatly. OK What gets my gander is that what happens, and what is aloud to pass as Pre 65 in this one trial is then passed down for the rest of the year as the norm for every other Pre 65 trial. It is then term Pre 65 that is wrong the term should not be used anymore for this trial. I have on the bench at the moment the bike that won the 350 award in 2000, and is being rebuilt as it was ridden then. This bike had a Hubbo BSA frame that was built on the same frame jig as the Mick Mills frames, and was lent to the builder by the same. This bike had Four stud BSA forks fitted , and REH hubs. This bike today would not be accepted by the rules of today? So the goal posts have moved again. I purchased the Faber frame in good faith, thinking that it was now OK for the event, but now find out that it may not be. So the goal posts have moved again.i have sent mails for conformation about this frame but have not had a reply. I have now found a company in the West Country that build a frame for a Cub engine that is a copy of the super Cub frame. And it looks like a Bantam, but would this be allowed ? I was taking a look at the 2010 Dave Thorpe Cub on pipeline , and this bike sported a Armac subframe, but this seems to be now allionated,? But I don't know as the person I asked has not given me an answer. I will now submit an entry on the 1961 C 15T BSA and see what happens? Regards Charlie.
  17. Hi Guys. Hi Honda Rs. OK Ticking the boxes ,that your components are all OK? So then when it comes to. The dates when these components were made what date do you put for these? As most of them are probably New , surely you have to put 2012 .Which is nowhere near 1964 which is the latest date the components should have been made. So now Who is lying? Regards Charlie.
  18. Hi Guy's. Hi Tam. The problem is that there is no guidence to enyone that wants to build a bike to conform. Just general outline. When you start looking at some of the bikes (Winning mostly,) you think to your self, If I fit one like that on my bike will it be exeptable? as I am only Joe Blogs, and not a Star name! Then you look at other components and can see that they were not Pre 65, it is this term, more than what is exepted , that is the problem to most people. Regards Charlie.
  19. Hi Guy's, Hi Dave. I agree, All the second generation C15T's were built in 1964 and then stock piled as Joe public did not fancy the wider and heavier bike than the original C15T. This is why they pushed the bikes for sale to the military, Pat will confirm this. This frame was all welded (I have one). Now has you know the later Cubs had the frame for the BSA Bantam, ( and I seem to remember Charlie Reynolds fitting a Cub engine into a D3 Bantam frame along time before that.) It seems to be the later D7 onwards frames that are being modified for this event, and the subframes based on these and not the D3, although these were later than 1965. I agree these had bolt on subframes has now will my Mk3 Faber "Otter" Cub. If I now name the bike a BSA/ Triumph Cub, I can't see that there should be objection to the bike ,would you? Regards Charlie.
  20. Hi Guys. Hi Dave, I am sending another email to Bill Emerson about the Faber Otter Cub. The last one I sent did not get a reply? Which is strange has it was only a question to clarifie ,what the constructor of the frame had told me on purchasing the item ,that this Mk3 Faber frame was cleared to be eligible for the Pre 65 Scottish event. I at the time of purchase was quite content to build a swan necked frame or even buy one of the super lightweight ones from Alan Whitton. But I as you know run the BSA Otter web site. So building a bike for my young rider to try and get an entry to this prestiges event was a no brainier was it it needed to be an Otter, So that the build and trial on the bike could be covered by the web site. For interest of the worldwide coverage the site has. We will see if I get a reply this time, or you could just mail me Bill on www.bsaotter.com Regards Charlie.
  21. Hi Guys. Ho No, I took Howard's Word that the Faber Mk3 Cub Frame was OK for Scotland Pre 65.So spent the £750 on the frame. Now what you guys tell me it is not? I had the frame in my jig today to put on a couple of brackets , and what I read earlier decided to lop the sub frame off so that I could now fit a bolt on one. N ow I read the frame needs to have a swan neck? Well I am not chopping the frame up anymore so unless the boy wants to put an engine in the ex WD B40 frame, same as 1964 trials BSA s, Then I am throwing in the towel on the event before starting, And ripping up the entry form, He did so want to have a ride in this trial, and me giving him a bike to ride was the only way. Regards Charlie
  22. Hi Guys. Hi Dave, I must say I had not took note of the bolt on subframe, But had been told that all Ariel's now needed bolt on footrest to seat struts to comply. OK you know I have the Scott Ellis replica bike, with the bolt on Triumph Cub subframe, and as this was the frame that Harry Foster coppied for the first "Otter" frame, and that then one of these frame's were later lent to Howard at Faber to copy for the Faber "Otter" frame. Would you think the boy would now have a better chance of getting an entry on this bike with C15F engine from 1966? This bike has forks fitted from a WD B40 from 1968, the ones with the damper rods inside!! But it also has a shaved down B25 barrel but I have made a new pushrod tube, out of alloy. Or should I still send the entry for the Mk3 Faber Cub, and braize on some nuts and bolts? Regards Charlie.
  23. Hi Guy's, Hi OTF, Now I have taken a look at a vid of the Spanish boys and there infringments, Didn't make sence to me?? Think one had a Montesa front brake from the seventies fitted. Unlike most bikes with new hub brakes fitted from a friend of ours. Did he tell you how many he has sold now? Know I could not believe it either. Just ordered two for my "Faber Cub" for the trial. Hope the boy gets an entry, with the thousands I have spent on the NEW bike. Regards Charlie.
  24. Hi Guy's, Hi Will, I will keep you posted on progress with next years show. Good to know you are still riding, I was asked the question only a couple of weeks ago, in the Isle Of Man. Small World is it not? Regards Charlie.
  25. Hi Steve, I am very sorry to hear of your sad loss and my thoughts are with you and your family. “British Trials Bikes” would have never have grown like it did in the late sixties without your fathers input, supplying a trials bike that anyone could afford. I am glad we did the catch up on Sprite Trials bikes when we did, has I know your dad enjoyed it. Condolences to you all in the family. And I for one will make sure “Mr Sprite’s” name lives on while I am still able too! Charlie Prescott.
